TV Show review: Grace & Frankie

What is this series about?

I can't explain concretely and in one word all that this series has meant to me. Realism, laughter, simplicity, identification, and more come from the hands of Lily Tomlinson, Jane Fonda, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterstone.

Well my dear hivers, I tell you that I have been watching this series non-stop for about 10 days or two weeks, which has 7 seasons and 13 episodes per season, except for the last one, which has 16.

It is a series where the main characters are elderly people, between 75 and 80 years old, and they act according to their ages in real life, which I find admirable.

It is about two married couples where the husbands happen to be homosexuals, and they have a relationship between them for many years, but they kept it hidden. Well, the series begins with the disclosure of this with the news that they are getting married.

They inform their wives, who have to go live together in a house on the beach that their husbands had bought years before in theory for them to enjoy as families that they shared, but in truth it was for them to be able to share together.

Who are Grace and Frankie?

They are two totally different women. While Grace is refined and a businesswoman, Frankie is a hippie and a painter. Their personalities do not fit together even in a joke, but with nowhere to go, they must resign themselves to coexist.

It is beautiful to watch them, especially because I also happened to read a little about their lives, which is when I learned that their ages are just like the ones they play in fiction.

It turns out that in real life Jane Fonda is a passionate activist who denounces the climate crisis and Lili Tomlin is a lesbian, who came out of the closet very young when she formed a couple with who today is still her partner after 50 years.

Back to the series.

Well, these two women throughout the story, have arguments and misunderstandings, but slowly begin to love each other and begin to care for each other.

I must admit that since season 2, I wanted them to be a couple too, but... I won't tell you what happened because I would be ruining the story for you.

What I will say is that there are many suitors for both of them from the beginning.

Another interesting thing about this series is the children and the religions. One family is Jewish and has two adopted sons; the other family is Catholic and has two biological daughters. All of them are between 35 and 40 years old.

The realities they are living are very interesting, as they are quite realistic.

The only thing I could mention as a negative criticism is that, as in other series, these are "elite" families.

For example Frankie is very hippie and as I said, she is a painter, but her husband is a lawyer. And Jane, whose husband has the same profession, is already an extremely fine person.

So there I do find a point where many people of that age may not identify with the series.

What do I like the most?

The humor of the series is very healthy, and throughout its plot it shows aspects of the elderly that we generally ignore. Among them sexuality, both in what it means to feel free to express one taste or another; to enjoy sex; to encourage entrepreneurship; to make new friends; to discover a passion; to heal relationships with deceased parents; and many other things.

My parents are in their 60s and I often hear them referred to as "old," and I grew up with the idea that a person is old once they retire or are about to retire.

These people in the series are almost two decades older and are still thinking about their future, which reminds me of when I was at the Lain Garcia Calvo event, where there was an 88-year-old man. The following happened: Lain came off the stage and said, I know there is an 88 year old man here today. His wife pointed to him and said: here he is!

Lain approached him with the microphone and began to ask him questions about how he had gotten there, until finally he said to the man: *when I am 88 years old I want to be like you. And the man replied, well, at that time, come and get me!

We were all amazed, the man expected to live more than 40 more years.

This series constantly brought that memory to my mind. And it was very beautiful.

It's wonderful that they present empowered, independent, hopeful and strong seniors to walk new paths, whatever they may be.

And it is SPECTACULAR that their protagonists are indeed in real life the ages they claim to be in the series.

Let's see, literal 75 year old men and women embarking on a new project for Netflix? Not a movie, A SERIES OF SEVERAL EPISODES AND SEASONS.

These brought me the inspiration of the month.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SERIES MY DEAR HIVERS, TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT!

P.S.: As an old lady I look like Frankie! Hehe.

Buen post!

Ligera es una gran palabra para definirla. Es así! Jeje
