Review and opinion of the miniseries The Survivors [ENG-ESP]

It has become a habit for me to bring this kind of stories to the community and I can’t help but be attracted to productions of this genre. These stories make me forget about the world and the problems that I really have to occupy my mind in the problems and secrets that other people have, generally fictional, as in this case, where the story is based on a novel by author Jane Harper set in a town in Australia.

Se me ha hecho costumbre traer este tipo de historias a la comunidad y es que no puedo evitar ser atraída hacía producciones de este género. Estas historias me hacen olvidar del mundo y de los problemas que en realidad si tengo para ocupar mi mente en los problemas y secretos que tienen otras personas generalmente ficticias, como en este caso, donde la historia es basada en una novela de la autora Jane Harper ambientada en un pueblo de Australia.

People die every day but the town of Evelyn Bay was marked by the death of two young people 15 years ago during a storm, which had gone out to sea in search of the younger brother of one of them and during the storm the boat was hit. They were not the only ones who died but for some reason no one talks about Gaby, a 14 year old teenager who also disappeared that day and it was never known what happened to her, a situation that Bronte, a pro-feminist tourist who came to stay, wants to remedy by investigating what happened to Gaby.

Kieran, the younger brother whom the young people were going to save and who fortunately stayed alive, but moved to the city because he could not bear to feel guilty about the death of his brother and his friend. More than feeling guilty, it can be said that he escaped from the people who made him feel guilty for what had happened. While in the city he met and married Mia, Gaby’s best friend who had also escaped from Evelyn Bay.

Returning 15 years later to see his sick dad and take his little daughter to meet him, the date coincides with the anniversary of the storm and everyone is very touchy, but everything gets worse when Bronte turns up dead on the beach. At that moment the investigation begins, the search for suspects and the reasons why they would want Bronte dead.

Las personas mueren diariamente pero el pueblo de Evelyn Bay quedó marcado por la muerte de dos jóvenes hace 15 años durante una tormenta, el cual habían salido al mar en busca del hermano menor de uno de ellos y durante la tormenta el barco fue azotado. No fueron los únicos que murieron pero por alguna razón nadie habla de Gaby, una adolescente de 14 años que también desapareció ese día y nunca se supo que le sucedió, situación que Bronte una turista pro feminista que llegó para quedarse, quiere remediar investigando qué pasó con Gaby.

Kieran, es el hermano menor a quien iban a salvar los jóvenes y quien afortunadamente quedó vivo, pero se mudo a la ciudad porque no aguantó sentirse culpable de la muerte de su hermano y su amigo. Más que sentirse él culpable se puede decir que escapó de las personas que lo hacían culpable por lo que había pasado. Aunque estando en la ciudad se encontró y casó con Mía, la mejor amiga de Gaby quien también había escapado de Evelyn Bay.

Al volver 15 años después para ver a su papá enfermo y llevar a conocer a su pequeña hija, la fecha coincide con el aniversario de la tormenta y todas las personas están muy susceptibles, pero todo empeora cuando Bronte aparece muerta en la playa. En ese momento comienza la investigación, la búsqueda de sospechosos y las razones del porque querrían muerta a Bronte.

One of the most outstanding things is to see how families are destroyed after a tragedy, there are families that overcome it but in this story the fathers and mothers always live with the loss in their hearts, exposing after so many years their sadness as if it were the first day, some preferred to lose the other child to be crying for the one who died, while other families do the opposite, they hide things so as not to lose another child; That is the case of the parents, but the siblings who are still alive also suffer, because they do not see how to make their parents overcome the loss and at the same time they feel underappreciated because as always happens, after someone dies, they become the best person, even if they are not. So here we are going to see how the families of these three young men who died 15 years ago have tried to lead their lives, how grief has taken over them to the point of pushing away their children who are still alive.

Una de las cosas más resaltantes es ver cómo las familias se destruyen después de una tragedia, hay familias que lo superan pero en esta historia los padres y madres viven siempre con la perdida en el corazón, exponiendo después de tantos años su tristeza como si fuera el primer día, unos prefirieron perder al otro hijo por estar llorando el que murió, mientras que otras familias hacen lo contrario, pues ocultan cosas con tal de no perder un hijo más; eso es el caso de los padres, pero los hermanos que quedan vivos también sufren, pues no ven como hacer para que sus padres superen la perdida y al mismo tiempo se sienten menospreciados porque como siempre pasa, después que alguien se muere se convierte en la mejor persona, aunque no la sea. Así que aquí vamos a ver cómo las familias de estos tres jóvenes que murieron hace 15 años han tratado de llevar sus vidas, cómo el dolor se ha apoderado de ellos hasta el punto de alejar a los hijos que todavía les quedan vivos.

It is not a serial that brought me anything new in terms of crime investigation, it has the same thread as many where every clue found leads to a suspect and although I went through several of the suspects I did not manage to get the real killer right. As for the motive for the murder the most valid reason is the investigation Bronte was doing as a tribute to Gaby for the anniversary of the storm.

I don't know if I would recommend this miniseries, as it can be a bit slow and with dialogues that are not really going to contribute anything to the resolution of the murder, but focus more on the personal relationships between the survivors of a tragedy and how a bond is created between them. No es una seria que me haya aportado algo nuevo en cuanto investigación de crímenes, tiene el mismo hilo que muchas dónde cada pista hallada conduce a un sospechoso y aunque me pasé por varios de los sospechoso no logré acertar con el verdadero asesino. En cuanto al móvil del asesinato la razón más válida es la investigación que Bronte estaba realizando como homenaje a Gaby por el aniversario de la tormenta.

No sé si recomendaría está miniserie, ya que puede resultar un poco lenta y con diálogos que de verdad no van a aportar nada a la resolución del asesinato, sino que se enfocan más en las relaciones personales entre los sobrevivientes de una tragedia y como se crea un vínculo entre ellos.
