¡Hola amigos! Hoy les traigo la reseña acerca de una película argentina basada en unos cuentos de terror y drama social escritos por Mariana Enriquez, una referente del género en Argentina. Les estoy hablando de La virgen de la tosquera.

En esta historia seguiremos a un grupo de adolescentes que están viviendo un verano en el que quieren divertirse y vivir experiencias nuevas. Una de las chicas, Natalia, está obsesionada con su amigo Diego. Su plan es conquistarlo ese verano antes de que se vaya a estudiar a la capital, pero esto se ve truncado cuando aparece Silvia, una chica más grande que logra llamar la atención de Diego. A partir de allí, Natalia se obsesiona con el asunto y empiezan a pasar cosas raras en el barrio. Un carrito maloliente abandonado en frente de su casa también será protagonista, al igual que la crisis que se vivía en el país por aquella época.

In this story, we follow a group of teenagers spending a summer where they want to have fun and try new things. One of the girls, Natalia, is obsessed with her friend Diego. Her plan is to win him over that summer before he leaves to study in the capital, but her plans are derailed when Silvia, an older girl, shows up and catches Diego’s attention. From then on, Natalia becomes obsessed with the situation, and strange things begin to happen in the neighborhood. A smelly, abandoned cart in front of her house will also play a key role, as will the crisis the country was going through at the time.

Me gustaría empezar diciendo que no leí nada de la autora que escribió este relato que fue adaptado al cine, pero luego de ver la película me dieron muchas ganas de hacerlo. Otro asunto que quiero destacar es lo bueno que es el cine argentino en cuanto a películas de terror, siento que tenemos un buen material de películas del género que están muy bien y que son infravaloradas.

I’d like to start by saying that I haven’t read anything by the author who wrote this story, which was adapted into a movie, but after seeing the film, I really wanted to. Another point I want to highlight is how good Argentine cinema is when it comes to horror movies; I feel like we have a lot of great films in this genre that are really well-made but underrated.

Está bien, no es una obra maestra del cine, ni mucho menos. Hay muchas situaciones que tal vez no tengan sentido para las personas que no son del país, pero es una propuesta interesante. Al menos a mí me mantuvo atrapada desde el comienzo y eso que no le tenía tanta fe en un principio.

Okay, it's not exactly a cinematic masterpiece. There are a lot of scenes that might not make sense to people who aren't from the country, but it's an interesting take. At least it had me hooked from the start, even though I wasn't that optimistic about it at first.

Visualmente es muy impactante, hay escenas un poco sangrientas, no al estilo gore. Pero sí impresionantes por el carácter de realidad que les confiere. Me resultó curioso como todos parecían tomar lo raro como algo cotidiano, o no sorprenderse ante la tragedia y seguir como si nada. También es una película que retrata una realidad actual como lo es el individualismo y lo poco que se involucran las personas ante las atrocidades que están viendo.

Visually, it’s very striking; there are some slightly gory scenes, though not in a gore-fest kind of way. But they’re still unsettling because of the sense of realism they convey. I found it curious how everyone seemed to treat the bizarre as if it were an everyday occurrence, or how they weren’t fazed by the tragedy and just carried on as if nothing had happened. It’s also a film that portrays a current reality—namely, individualism and how little people get involved in the face of the atrocities they’re witnessing.

En mi caso, ver esta película me hizo dar un viaje al pasado, aunque no dista de ser muy diferente al tiempo presente. Está bien que en ese momento era muy chica y no tenía noción de lo qué estaba pasando en temas de crisis. Igual impresiona que un par de años después siga pasando lo mismo, los cortes de luz y de agua en verano. Sin duda, hay situaciones que nunca cambian. Está ambientada en el año 2001.

In my case, watching this movie took me on a trip down memory lane, even though it’s not all that different from the present day. Sure, I was very young back then and had no idea what was going on in terms of the crisis. Still, it’s striking that a couple of years later, the same thing is still happening—power and water outages in the summer. Without a doubt, some things never change. It’s set in the year 2001.

La película también retrata la complejidad de la adolescencia y los cambios que se dan en esa etapa, eso de querer encajar y hacer todo lo que hacen los demás para sentir que perteneces, aunque no estés segura de nada de lo que estés haciendo. A esa edad uno vive la vida con otros ojos y busca transgredir los límites de lo moral. Bueno, no todos, pero acá sí sucede.

The film also explores the complexities of adolescence and the changes that occur during that stage—that desire to fit in and do everything everyone else is doing just to feel like you belong, even if you’re not sure about any of it. At that age, you see life through different eyes and seek to push the boundaries of what’s morally acceptable. Well, not everyone does, but that’s certainly the case here.

Y, por supuesto, tiene ese toque de paranormal y situaciones que no tienen explicación. Un poco de brujería y rituales sangrientos también. Es una mezcla interesante. La verdad es que se las recomiendo mucho si les gusta el género y quieren ver algo del estilo.

And, of course, it has that touch of the paranormal and situations that defy explanation. There’s a bit of witchcraft and bloody rituals, too. It’s an interesting mix. Honestly, I highly recommend it if you like the genre and want to watch something along those lines.
