Dawn of AI. The Creator (2023) || Movie Review.
Now, we are slowly co-existing with AI technology. It is beginning to take up some of our jobs, stealing some of our patterns and making it theirs. Now, sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between humans and Al content. Somewhere in my mind, I hope AI doesn't take over our lifestyle too because now they are being portrayed in movies, written in books as fiction but actually they are messages and warnings of an inevitable doomsday approaching someday.
’The Creator (2023)’ is a science fiction action film that was distributed by 20th Century Studios. I have seen this movie around and finally I got the time to see it. This movie was produced and directed by Gareth Edwards. It was written by Chris Weitz together with Gareth.
After a devastating war between humans and artificial intelligence, an ex-special forces soldier was recruited to find the weapon “The Creator” created to end the war. The movie starred John David Washington, Madeleine Yuna Voyles, Gemma Chan, Allison Janney, Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Ralph Ineson, and Marc Menchaca.
This movie was set in the year 2055 when humans and artificial intelligence were at war. The humans were trying to prevent human extinction by AI as New Asia (a country consisting of the Asian race) was embracing AI more than the rest of the world. Stimulants with human physical features were created to co-exist amongst them. However, the US created NOMAD, an advanced space station that has the ability to launch nuclear attacks from space.
On the other hand, the US military wants to eliminate Nirmata (the mysterious creator of the AI and stimulants). To achieve this plan they planted sergeant Joshua Taylor undercover to search for Nirmata but instead, he unknowingly falls in love with the daughter of Nirmata. Unfortunately for Taylor his cover was blown and Maya his wife discovered he is an undercover agent. Disappointed and heartbroken, she ran away but was immediately hit by a NOMAD strike.
Five years later, Taylor was approached by general Andrews and Colonel Howell to help them find the rumored weapon Nirmata created that can destroy NOMAD. To convince Taylor, they showed him a fake video of Maya, his wife, to convince him that she was still alive. Taking up the assignment, Taylor finally finds the weapon, but discovers that the weapon is an advanced stimulant in the form of a young girl. Will Taylor destroy this weapon?
My Review And Rating.
I want to like this movie, but I can't because this movie took me three days to finish. Yes, three days. I would start watching and then I would become bored. That's how I used three days to finish watching this movie.
This movie didn't leave me with a good impression which makes me question what is the fuss about this movie people made. Immediately after I finished the movie, I actually forgot I had just seen the movie. It was that bad for me. Edwards the director and writer did an amazing job with the movie ’Rogue One’, but for this movie he didn't get it right.
From this movie, I discovered that Edward is great with world building which was evident throughout this movie, but his writing skills are not good for me. I hope he sticks to his directing job and not write anymore movies.
Some of the positives of this movie are the great CGI, excellent special effects, fantastic world building that seemed so convincing and real. The actors were good. The performance was amazing, especially Madeleine Yuna Voyles’ performance. She stole the spotlight throughout the movie. Also, some of the characters lacked emotional connection which made the movie less engaging for me.
The plot was not written well. As Edward tried to merge sci-fi and action together, he made the plot of this movie messy with a lot of things happening, lots of potholes, but no specific intentions or goal. If the plot was written well with a good amount of strong mystery, tension and suspense, this movie would have been a blockbuster. Also, the movie was highly predictable. As I was watching it, I could tell what would happen in the next scene so that contributed to the reason why it took me three days to finish watching this movie.
One thing I also appreciate about this movie is the soundtrack. It was done by Hans Zimmer and I loved it. Hans always delivers anytime he handles the soundtrack of a movie.
Rating this movie, I will give it 6 out of 10 stars. It was not enjoyable and engaging. A lot of things happened in the movie and then it ended abruptly. The world built was real and convincing. It is an average film with a strong message but not a great one.

Hahaha coincidentally I also finished it in three days, but my case was epeor tiredness, I was sleepy from all the hustle and bustle of the day. I understand what happened to you. I wasn't bored, but it's a story already seen many times, predictable. The actor is not charismatic at all, Denzel's son doesn't have the same charm as his father. Pitiful. This actor is boring.
I found it entertaining, to pass the time and forget about it.
What a coincidence! 😂. If I had seen the movie exhausted, honestly, I won't finish it. The actor was kind of annoying to me. It felt like he was in a world of his own. I didn't know Denzel is his father. Imagine that! Now I feel like dragging him through mud for not upholding to his father's charisma. I am beyond disappointed now. This looks like an interesting premise but poor execution. It reminds of an anime I saw once in which the Japanese put a wall around their country because they wanted to experiment with nanotechnology. For years, they didn't interact with the rest of the world until one day an outside team was able to get in and found out what had happened inside the wall 😬

Ah, that sounds like an interesting movie that I wouldn't spend three days to watch. Now, you left me in a bit of a suspens. What happened inside the wall?

Tokyo is turned into a tent city by nanotechnology running amok. It destroys everything it touches. So, Japan is not having a good time as they cling to survival. Very cool film.
Personally I liked how they deal with the theme of how war can radically change the thinking of a person, it can make them violent, vile and selfish at the time of wanting to hurt who they consider their enemy, in that is very important the character of Alphie, which is very well played and is the best of the film, I wish they didn't waste so much time in the first act focused on Joshua and more on the relationship of the two characters, with this I say that the script has positive aspects in being an anti-war film, but fails in the drama of a man who has nothing and must become the father figure of someone considered even by his own kind as a weapon.
It is not a perfect film, not at all, it has many flaws, mostly in the way of writing the relationship of the two main characters and Washington's performance that I expected to be better.

You know your points are valid and I didn't see the movie this way. I wish I did. It all make sense now from your explanation. You are also right about the time wasted on the first act which probably was the reason why I lost interest in the movie right from the beginning.

Sometimes I think there are movies that are designed to create an impact on the public and sometimes the public's perception of those productions is not the one expected so expectations are a tough enemy for these movies and series and I personally think that happened with that movie.
