BULLYING : A REVIEW OF WEAK HERO SEASON 1

Good morning friends, the weekend just ended and it's time for new goals to be reached. The new week started on a good note and my first blog for this week is to write a review on the movie I watched during the weekend. It is a popular Korean movie that is making waves on almost all social media platforms like tiktok and Twitter also known as X. The title of the movie is "weak Hero class one and two" .

I have only watched the first season and my experience with the movies is that it encompasses the brutality students face amongst their fellow students. Sometimes, bullying is a common vice among students in high school whereby the rich and privileged ones take on the weak and poor students, by making them do things for them and controlling their activities making life unbearable and difficult.

Summary of the weak Hero (class 1) season 1

Like I mention earlier, the weak Hero class 1 is a South Korean drama that portrays the difficult and harsh life students has to go through to be able to attend a particular School. Most of these students are bullied by their classmates or seniors. The movie is about a student named Si-Eun who stands out in his class as a top student. The bullies in his class tried to bully him but he stood up against it by studying about it using intellect and strategy. He was a loner but later became friends with Su-ho and Beom-seok, they formed a kind of alliance and fought against these bullies. In all, they faced different trials and tribulations as Beom-seok falls out with them and betrays them by hiring thugs and trying to kill Su-ho.

MAJOR THEMES

One of the major things in this movie is the entirety of what bullying can lead to. We see how this vice called bullying that the perpetrators enjoy by inflicting pain and difficulty on their victims leads to a psychological breakdown whereby this people who have experienced this torture will do anything or go to any length to protect themselves. For those who are totally weak and downtrodden, the psychological impact of bullying is one that affects them mentally and psychologically. Hence, from the movie we can detect that the major effect of bullying on students who are young can resolve to low self-esteem, fear, can lead to depression, hopelessness, and can leave emotional scars.

Again, there is the issue of friendship and betrayal, at a point in the movie Si-eun, Su-ho and Beom-seok became friends per chance and together they fought against violence and enjoyed the benefits of having someone to talk to in times of difficulty. Things was going smoothly until Beom-seok who is a transfer student, met with the bullies that made him leave his former school, he became violent at some point and Su-ho tried to contain him so that he would not kill someone but he took this the wrong way and blame him for trying to control him. This brought about a fall out with the trio and he started hanging with the wrong group at school. They tried to mend things but he became vicious and paid heavily for someone to kill Su-ho, he succeeded and made him badly injured from an accident. Hence, the betrayal.

The movie is an interesting watch, Korean high school movies has always been interesting as it encompasses comedy, thrillers, action, friendship and all embedded in them. It is recommended.
