True Detective Review: One Case, Two Minds, and Endless Darkness (Season 01)

I started watching it the day before yesterday and finished the first season yesterday. I honestly didn't think this series would be so amazing, because I've watched many series before about searching for missing people, and their storylines were quite slow and disconnected, making them lose my interest. On top of that, I'm a huge fan of the dark series genre.

Some web series are not just watched, but remembered. Whenever I've watched such series, they've resonated deeply within me. This has happened to me very rarely, like only with Dark and Game of Thrones. True Detective is one such crime thriller series where a crime occurs, an investigation is conducted, and ultimately the killer is caught, but its ending isn't like other series where everything is resolved in the end. Its ending leaves you with a question, and that question is stuck in my mind.

The series raises questions like: What is truth? How does a person grapple with the past? Is it possible to escape the darkness?

The setting where the series was filmed was quite interesting to me, like the empty roads of Louisiana, the dilapidated houses, and the deep sadness that permeates everything. It feels like this place is in deep trauma; it wants to say something but is unable to. We don't see much through the camera, but whatever we do see stays etched in our minds.

The series has two main characters, and both are very powerful characters because their personalities are completely different from each other, and neither is satisfied with the other's answers until the very end. Rust Cohle and Marty Hart are two CBI detectives. Rust is a pessimistic person; he questions existence, suggesting that if people aren't happy, they should commit suicide. In contrast, Marty is a deceitful and weak person entangled in family issues; he constantly struggles with himself and fails to conform to society and his family's expectations.

The series' story is based on the search for children and people who disappeared between 1995 and 2012. Officials in powerful positions of authority adhere to certain outdated, conservative beliefs, which benefits a cult that abuses and sacrifices children. Our two detectives lose their jobs while trying to find this "Yellow King," and eventually manage to kill this monster, but ultimately discover that the game is far bigger than it initially appeared and will continue as long as there are people on Earth.

If you're looking for a fast-paced, entertaining series with superheroes, this isn't for you. While the series is thrilling, I found it to be very psychological. The story unfolds slowly, revealing layers of complexity and deeply unsettling truths. If you're looking for that kind of experience, then you should definitely watch it.

अगर आप बहुत फास्ट, मनोरंजन और सुपरहीरोज जैसी सीरीज की तलाश में हो तो ये आपके लिए नहीं है। यह सीरीज वैसे तो थ्रिलिंग है लेकिन मुझे साइकोलॉजिकल बहुत महसूस हुई। कहानी धीरे–धीरे बनती है, खिड़कियां खुलती है और हमें भीतर तक झकझोर देती है। कुछ ऐसा अनुभव चाहिए तो जरूर देखें।
