Straight back to my childhood: "Masters of the Universe." (2026)
Hello everyone, as children we had this habit or routine of sitting in front of the TV at certain times of the day to watch cartoons, anime, or animated shows that gradually became part of our childhood art. We discovered them through discovery or through that inherited taste passed down among family members, and well, as a child, my taste for many of these was exactly like that. My uncles would show me the series they liked and that evoked emotions in them, and among these, there was one that became a classic for many generations, and the character simply became a cult figure. So this year, when the movie was released, I personally had high expectations, because although there have been several adaptations over the years, I felt a special interest in this one. After waiting, I was finally able to see it with my uncles, and it certainly didn't disappoint. So today I'll share my opinion about "Masters of the Universe."
Hola a todos, de niños teníamos esta costumbre o rutina de a ciertas horas del día sentarnos frente a la TV para ver esas caricaturas, animes o dibujos animados que poco a poco se fueron marcando como arte de nuestra infancia. Vivieron a nosotros por descubrimiento o por ese gusto que se hereda y enseña entre familiares y, bueno, de niña mi gusto por muchas de estas era justamente así. Mis tíos me enseñaban aquellas series que les gustaron y generaron emociones en ellos y, entre estas, había una que fue el clásico de muchos por generaciones y que simplemente el personaje se volvió de culto. Por lo que este año, cuando se estrenó su película, personalmente le tenía altas expectativas, pues aunque ya han habido diversas adaptaciones con los años, sentí especial interés en esta, por lo que luego de esperar pude por fin verla junto a mis tíos y sin duda no decepcionó, por lo que hoy les compartiré mi opinión acerca de "Masters of the Universe".
Based on the franchise of the same name, directed by Travis Knight, and with several changes in production and distribution rights, going from Netflix to finally Amazon MGM Studios, finally, after several years of delay, its filming began in 2025 with a production budget of between 170 and 200 million dollars. This film has received mixed reviews regarding its plot and adaptation of the story, along with its comedic elements and the action and fantasy elements on screen. The story presents the planet Eternia, the kingdom, suffering an unexpected attack by Skeletor's forces. The young Prince Adam is sent to Earth with the Sword of Grayskull, which he loses. He then spends 15 years living as a normal human, driven by the desire to find the sword and prove his origins. Finally, he finds it again, and a series of events unfolds, allowing Adam to wield the sword and defend all of Eternia from Skeletor, as we are accustomed to in this great classic.
Basada en la franquicia del mismo nombre, dirigida por Travis Knight, y con varios cambios en los derechos de producción y distribución, pasando desde Netflix y hasta finalmente Amazon MGM Studios, finalmente, luego de varios años de atraso, su rodaje inició en el año 2025 y con un presupuesto de producción de entre 170 y 200 millones de dólares. Esta ha recibido diversas críticas en cuanto a su trama y la forma de adaptar la historia, junto con los giros de comedia y lo que es la acción y ficción en escena, en el cual se nos presenta que el planeta Eternia, el reino, sufre un ataque inesperado por parte de las fuerzas de Skeletor y el pequeño príncipe Adam es enviado a la Tierra junto con la espada del poder de Grayskull, la cual pierde, y este tiene que pasar 15 años conviviendo como un humano normal, pero con esa sensación de buscar la espada para demostrar que su origen es real, hasta el día que se reencuentra con esta y surgirán diversos sucesos para que así Adam pueda empuñar la espada y defender toda Eternia de Skeletor, como estamos acostumbrados en este gran clásico.
I won't lie, something I really liked about this film is how focused the direction was on so many details that might not be immediately apparent,but which are nods to He-Man's childhood and development. This is precisely where the film's mixed reviews come from, because it doesn't aim to be sensationalist. On the contrary, the director, being a huge fan of this classic, aimed to be as representative as possible, and I think he succeeded. Personally, it felt like watching an episode on a regular day when I was a kid. And going back to the criticism, the fact that they included references from years past, like memes that immortalized the character, while negative for many, for me, and I think for those who grew up with this classic, is a sign that they understand its importance over the years and what has made it so beloved. And of course, although it's an adaptation of the original story regarding Adam and his journey to another planet, it's still a good opening to this version of the plot that they're trying to show, and it suggests that in a sequel we'll see that more direct redirection to the original plot.
No les voy a mentir, algo que me gustó mucho de esta es que estuviera la dirección tan enfocada en tantos detalles que quizás no se ven a simple vista, pero que son guiños a años de infancia y crecimiento de este personaje de He-Man, y es justo donde tal vez están las tantas críticas divididas en cuanto a la película, pues es que esta no busca ser sensacionalista; por el contrario, el mismo director, al ser un fan total de este clásico, su objetivo era ser lo más representativo posible y creo que hizo un acierto, pues personalmente sentí como ver un capítulo en un día normal siendo niña. Y volviendo a las críticas, el hecho de que tomaran algunas referencias de años como memes que lo inmortalizaron y que tuviéramos de esto, aunque para muchos fue negativo, para mí y creo que también para los que crecieron con este clásico es una señal de que se sabe la importancia de este en lo que son los años y lo que más ha gustado. Y claro, aunque es una adaptación de la historia original con respecto a Adam y su viaje a otro planeta, no deja de ser una buena apertura a esta versión de la trama que se busca mostrar y que da a entender que en una secuela veremos esa redirección más directa a la trama original.
The humor was also criticized and sparked debate, and personally, I think the criticism stems from a lack of understanding or a forgetting of what He-Man was based on. The humor was always present in this way, as this classic, like so many series of the time, aimed to impart a lesson in each episode. Hence the characters like Orko speaking about values, or He-Man himself, and the origin of the classic memes. In other words, humor was a constant in the comedy of the era, and while many considered it excessive, for me it was an obvious element that also defined the cartoon. Similarly, some said that Skeletor was portrayed more as a comedian, but honestly, for me, it was the best Skeletor I've ever seen—very realistic and true to what we know. In other words, this film portrays this great classic very well, even including cameos from characters who brought the hero to life in previous years and taking a risk with scenes that suggest the answer is to continue developing more about this film, which is already known to be in production for what would be a sequel. If I had to add anything, it would undoubtedly be that the original music, even with the voice we've known for years in every intro, should be included at key moments; it would have given it even more power than it already conveyed.
En el tema del humor también fue algo criticado y que generó debate y, personalmente, pienso que las críticas vienen del desconocimiento o el no recordar en qué se basaba He-Man, pues el humor siempre tuvo de esa forma, ya que este clásico era, al igual que tantos de la época, series que buscaban dar una enseñanza en cada capítulo. De allí el tema de que viéramos a personajes como Orko hablando sobre valores o el mismo He-Man y de allí surgieran los memes clásicos; es decir, este siempre fue una constante en la comedia de la época que, más allá de ser algo que muchos sugirieron un de más, para mí fue como un elemento obvio y que también representaba esta caricatura. Así mismo, algunos decían que Skeletor estaba puesto más como un comediante y la verdad, para mí, fue el mejor Skeletor que pude ver, muy realista y apegado a lo que conocemos; es decir, esta película retrata muy bien lo que es este gran clásico, dando paso incluso a cameos con personajes que dieron vida al héroe en años anteriores y dándonos un arriesgar a todo con escenas que dan a entender que la respuesta es seguir desarrollando más sobre esta película que incluso se sabe ya está con una producción en lo que sería la secuela y que, si tuviera que añadir algo, es sin duda que la música original, aunque estuviera con la voz que conocimos por años en cada intro, estuviera en momentos clave; le hubiera dado un mayor poder del que ya transmitía.
I must say, I really enjoyed this movie. I was thoroughly entertained watching it while my aunt made some references and my sister, unlike me, didn't know much about it, so we explained a few things to her. The scenes are fantastic; the excitement of hearing the classic "By the power of Grayskull, I have the power!" made more than one of us say it over and over again. This is definitely a movie I recommend to those who want to relive that old excitement and to those who want to learn about this classic. Esta película, debo decir, me gustó mucho, la disfruté y estuve bien entretenida viéndola mientras mi tía hacía algunas referencias y mi hermana, a diferencia de mí, no conocía mucho, por lo que le explicábamos algunas cosas. Las escenas son supergeniales; la emoción de escuchar el clásico "Por el poder de Grayskull, ¡yo tengo el poder!" nos hizo decirlo y repetirlo a más de una. Esta, sin duda, es una película recomendable para los que quieren reavivar esa emoción de antaño y para los que quieren conocer sobre este clásico, por lo que, sin más que decir y esperando sea de su agrado, muchas gracias por leer.
BUeno, yo estoy como diría el venezolano ¨Ful picado¨ creo que más bien apostaron por la comedia y la autoparodia porque reconocen que el material original de los 80 es extravagante para el publico actual. Pero bueno, no sé ja ja ja... Yo me esperaba algo más serio. Pero puede que yo mismo me haya tropezado con la piedra en pensar así. No te voy a decir que no la disfruté, pero no la volvería a ver. Más allá de eso, tu reseña está muy bien redactada y con un cuerpo bastante narrativo 💛
