Companion y ahora en esta película vemos a un Jack Quaid lleno de litros de sangre, suponemos que estar en The Boys lo ha preparado y acostumbrado para eso. Buscando que ver me consigo con este film del que no había oído hablar mucho y no se no porque pero me llamó la atención. Las películas con mucho gore y violencia cada vez se están volviendo más comunes y eso es bueno para mi porque es uno de los géneros que más disfruto. Novocaine es una mezcla de comedia romántica llena de acción con ese toque violento que siempre será un valor agregado. Me pareció espectacular porque el centro de todo es super ingenioso dando pie a posibilidades infinitas de situaciones.

Companion and now in this film we see a Jack Quaid full of liters of blood, we suppose that being in The Boys has prepared him for that. Looking for something to watch I came across this film that I had not heard much about and I don't know why but it caught my attention. Movies with a lot of gore and violence are becoming more and more common and that's good for me because it's one of the genres I enjoy the most. Novocaine is a mix of action-packed romantic comedy with that violent touch that will always be an added value. I found it spectacular because the center of it all is super witty giving rise to endless possibilities of situations.

Tenemos a Nate (Jack Quaid) un tipo tímido, introvertido y con un trabajo promedio que un buen día conoce o finalmente se decide a hacerlo, a Sherry (Amber Midthunder), una compañera de trabajo. Pero Nate no es un hombre normal, tiene una condición genética que lo hace inmune al dolor por lo que es extremadamente cuidadoso en su día a día. Cuando conoce a Sherry su vida agarra otro ritmo, el estar solo lo hacía una persona apática pero al llegar ella a su vida todo da un giro de 180 grados. Pero las cosas buenas casi siempre no duran y después de un robo/secuestro en su lugar de trabajo la toman de rehén a ella y termina desaparecida. Es aquí cuando comienza a moverse la trama.

We have Nate (Jack Quaid) a shy, introverted guy with an average job who one fine day meets or finally decides to meet Sherry (Amber Midthunder), a co-worker. But Nate is not a normal man, he has a genetic condition that makes him immune to pain so he is extremely careful in his day to day life. When he meets Sherry his life takes on a different rhythm, being alone made him an apathetic person but when she comes into his life everything takes a 180 degree turn. But good things don't always last and after a robbery/kidnapping at his workplace she is taken hostage and ends up disappearing. This is when the plot begins to move.

Gracias a esa incapacidad para sentir dolor Nate se adentra en la busqueda de Sherry. No estamos hablando de que sea inmune pero claro, vienen y le dan un golpe en la cara o le atraviesan la mano con un cuchillo y no siente nada es como decir que el tipo es un superhéroe. Y más o menos de esa forma se desarrolla la película. Un civil totalmente ajeno a las armas y a dar un golpe se aprovecha de su condición para hacer lo impensable, ponerse cara a cara contra tres secuestradores entrenados. Una vez el film entra en esta dinámica se hace super vertical y movido, muy entretenido, ya te digo yo que de aburrirse no va la cosa, y bueno, todo el tema del gore que acompaña siempre hace todo más vistoso.

Thanks to his inability to feel pain, Nate goes in search of Sherry. We're not talking about him being immune but sure, they come and punch him in the face or put a knife through his hand and he doesn't feel anything, it's like saying the guy is a superhero. And that's pretty much how the movie plays out. A civilian totally oblivious to guns and pulling a heist takes advantage of his condition to do the unthinkable, go toe to toe against three trained hijackers. Once the film enters this dynamic it becomes super vertical and moving, very entertaining, and I tell you that it's not boring, and well, the whole theme of gore that always goes with it makes everything more eye-catching.

Que Nate tenga esa característica no quiere decir que la película vaya a ser 100% realista, evidentemente hay mucha ficción acá, es un tipo que pasa por muchas cosas y aún así siempre se levanta como si nada, eso no es nada normal. Todo lo que tiene que ver con escenas de acción, peleas, etc creo que está muy bien logradas, no es algo a nivel de una superproducción pero realmente sorprende lo bien hecha que está. Como ya dije, es sumamente gráfica en todos los sentidos y muy parecida a los últimos trabajos en los que Jack Quaid ha estado.

The fact that Nate has this characteristic doesn't mean that the movie is going to be 100% realistic, obviously there's a lot of fiction here, he's a guy who goes through a lot of things and yet he always gets up as if nothing happened, that's not normal at all. Everything that has to do with action scenes, fights, etc. I think it's very well done, it's not something at the level of a blockbuster but it's really surprising how well done it is. As I said, it is extremely graphic in every way and very similar to the last works Jack Quaid has been in.

La actuación de los dos protagonistas estuvo buena, por lo general Quaid es buen actor y tal parece que este tipo de papeles le quedan a la medida. No creo que sea coincidencia que sus dos últimas películas sean del mismo estilo. Amber si estuvo más promedio, una actuación bastante normal teniendo en cuenta la película que es. En estos films de acción estas cosas no importan tanto. En fin, Novocaine es un título super aceptable y que en lo personal me sorprendió mucho para bien. Me gustó el plot twist que hay en medio de la trama, genuinamente no lo vi venir y eso hizo que todo se pusiera más interesante. Dura poco menos de dos horas. Le doy un 8/10, este tipo de films sangrientos pero con una comedia de por medio casi siempre son una apuesta segura. Muy recomendada la película, les dejo el tráiler por acá.

The acting of the two main characters was good, Quaid is generally a good actor and it seems that this type of role fits him well. I don't think it's a coincidence that his last two movies are of the same style. Amber was more average, a pretty normal performance considering the movie it is. In these action films these things don't matter so much. Anyway, Novocaine is a super acceptable title that personally surprised me a lot for the better. I liked the plot twist in the middle of the plot, I genuinely didn't see it coming and that made everything more interesting. It lasts just under two hours. I give it an 8/10, this kind of gory films but with a comedy in the middle are almost always a safe bet. Highly recommended the movie, I leave the trailer here.
