All the attention to visual detail creates images that I found beautiful. There are some sequences where you want to pause and admire the beauty of the framing. For example, in the Arthur wedding scene, the sequence where Edward is sitting and the camera pulls back to show the banquet tables and chairs. Not only that, but most of the scenes are set in ugly, filthy areas, with poor characters from the period, and scenes in places full of luxury. For all these reasons, it is a series that gives me visual pleasure.

Similarly, the use of modern music in several sequences, as was also the case in Peaky Blinders, is something that fits perfectly. The creator uses the style that already worked for him, and here it is enhanced, but none of this would work if the characters he has created were not well interpreted. The actors have risen to the occasion in this work. I had already seen some of them in other productions, in supporting roles, and others were unknown to me.

They all do such a good job that it's hard to pick a favorite character. James Norton is one of the best known, and I really like his character Mr. Rafferty. He's the one who does the dirty work, who uses violence to achieve his goals, and who is willing to fuck all the Guinness girls. A foreman who, because he's so handsome, will make a couple of female characters and, of course, many female viewers wet their panties. Another character I love is Potter, the Guinness butler, who lets us know what he's thinking with just a glance. A butler who keeps many secrets and never misses an opportunity to be sharp with his words.

Here we also see Jack Gleeson, who came from the Seven Kingdoms to be a bastard cousin of the Guinness family who will be in charge of expanding the company to America and then serve as a political strategist. He is a rogue, cunning, one of those ambitious and unscrupulous beings. I was surprised by actor Louis Partridge, proving that he is not just a pretty face. He plays Edward Guinness and wins our sympathy. Anthony Boyle plays Arthur Guinness and is the one who stands out the most, due to his character's sexual problems. The other brother, Benjamin, is the one who gets lost, and perhaps he will take on an even more important role in the second season. The female characters also have their share of screen time, and they all stand out because they knew how to fit into a perfect cast.

It would be a shame if they canceled the series, because they've left everything up in the air. I haven't looked at the ratings, but I hope Netflix renews it, and if not, damn it, I hope the creator can at least make a special episode, like a movie, to give it the ending it deserves. I really liked it, so I recommend it.

Toda la atención a los detalles visuales crea imágenes que me parecieron hermosas. Hay algunas secuencias en las que dan ganas de detenerse y admirar la belleza del encuadre. Por ejemplo, en la escena de la boda Arthur, la secuencia en la que Edward está sentado y la cámara se aleja para mostrar las mesas y sillas del banquete. No sólo eso, sino que la mayoría de las escenas están ambientadas en zonas feas y mugrientas, con personajes pobres de la época, y escenas en lugares llenos de lujo. Por todo ello, es una serie que me produce placer visual.

Del mismo modo, el uso de música moderna en varias secuencias, como también ocurría en Peaky Blinders, es algo que encaja a la perfección. El creador utiliza el estilo que ya le funcionaba, y aquí se potencia, pero nada de esto funcionaría si los personajes que ha creado no estuvieran bien interpretados. Los actores han estado a la altura de las circunstancias en esta obra. A algunos de ellos ya los había visto en otras producciones, en papeles secundarios, y otros eran desconocidos para mí.

Todos lo hacen tan bien que es difícil elegir un personaje favorito. James Norton es uno de los más conocidos, y me gusta mucho su personaje Mr. Rafferty. Es el que hace el trabajo sucio, el que utiliza la violencia para conseguir sus objetivos y el que está dispuesto a follarse a todas las chicas Guinness. Un capataz que, por ser tan guapo, hará que un par de personajes femeninos y, por supuesto, muchas espectadoras se mojen las bragas. Otro personaje que me encanta es Potter, el mayordomo de los Guinness, que sólo con su mirada nos hace saber lo que está pensando. Un mayordomo que guarda muchos secretos y que nunca pierde la oportunidad de ser cortante con sus palabras.

Aquí también vemos a Jack Gleeson , que se vino de los siete reinos para ser un primo bastardo de la familia Guinness que se encargará de expandir la empresa a América y luego servirá como estratega político. Es un pícaro, astuto, uno de esos seres ambiciosos y sin escrúpulos. Me sorprendió el actor Louis Partridge, demostrando que no es sólo una cara bonita. Interpreta a Edward Guinness y se gana nuestra simpatía. Anthony Boyle interpreta a Arthur Guinness y es el que consigue destacar más, debido a los problemas sexuales de su personaje. El otro hermano, Benjamin, es el que se pierde, y quizás adquiera un papel aún más importante en la segunda temporada. Los personajes femeninos también tienen su cuota de pantalla, y todos destacan porque supieron encajar en un reparto perfecto.

Sería una pena que cancelaran la serie, porque lo han dejado todo en el aire. No he mirado los índices de audiencia, pero espero que Netflix la renueve, y si no, joder, espero que el creador pueda al menos hacer un episodio especial, tipo película, para darle el final que se merece. A mí me gustó mucho, así que la recomiendo.
