I overlooked this series when it premiered, and I don't understand why I didn't watch it. Among so many other productions, it ended up being forgotten, until recently when someone reminded me about it, and I didn't hesitate to watch it.

If Oriol Paulo is involved in a production, writing the script and directing, I have to watch it because I love his narrative style, especially his thrillers, as he is a filmmaker who likes to include many plot twists in his stories.

As for series, the one I liked the most was The Innocent, that great adaptation of Harlan Coben's novel, which already had excellent twists and turns, and the director intensified them. Of course, just because I like his style doesn't mean I like all his works. For example, the movie The Broken Lines of God didn't meet my expectations. I think I reviewed both of them a while ago. This time, he is adapting another novel, in this case by a Spanish writer named Mikel Santiago. I have no idea about the book, I've never read it, so I don't know how faithful it is to the novel or if it also maintains the same structure and plot twists.

Oriol Paulo writes and directs all the episodes. The story has a shocking beginning, plunging us into the life of a composer who has been quite successful writing music for films. He has won awards and is famous in his field. However, this man named Alex de la Fuente is not completely happy. He lives in a state of sadness because his marriage did not work out. He is divorced, his two children live with his ex-wife, who is now in a relationship with another man, and so he has taken refuge or hidden himself in Tremor, a coastal town where the devil left his last footprints.

What triggers the conflict throughout the story is that one night, after going out to dinner with his only neighbors, a couple who at first glance seem very nice, Alex is struck by lightning in the middle of a storm. He is miraculously saved and, from then on, begins to have intense visions, mostly of things that are going to happen, although some that correspond to the past also slip in. Here I should point out that he already seemed to have these kinds of premonitions, because before going out to dinner he had one that told him not to leave the house

What the hell is real, what is fantasy? Is Alex going crazy, or does he really have some kind of power to have premonitions? Is it just him, or is it something that's part of his family's legacy? Many questions arise, and chapter after chapter, we learn more about his life, his past, who he dates, who his neighbors really are, and, above all, that great danger that seems to stalk them all in Tremor and that they find impossible to change.

Is what is written in the book of destiny immutable? Can it not be changed, no matter what you do? These questions are very interesting and one of the reasons why I kept wondering where this story would go, always eager to see where the filmmaker would introduce his plot twists to leave us speechless.

I enjoyed the story, despite being one of the most skeptical people in the world, although I must also clarify that it is not Oril Paulo's best. There are details that I didn't like at all. One of them is the damn length of the series. There are eight episodes, but since the pace isn't that fast and it takes its time for many things, it ends up being very long. The ideal way to tell this story would have been with a few well-condensed episodes. These decisions about how many episodes there are are always the result of negotiations between the production company and the creators.

There is one episode focused on a subplot of the story that I found completely unnecessary. It's not a bad episode, I even liked it, but if I analyze it in terms of the story as a whole, it ends up being filler material. I find it excessive that they devote so much time to a trauma from the past of Judy, Alec's girlfriend in Tremos, who loves to do naughty things in bed all the time. A woman like that is what we all want, someone who asks us to do dirty things all the time. But her trauma, besides being quite sadistic, doesn't really have any weight in the central story. For me, this was like a concession to feminist propaganda. Simple as that.

And boy, did I have to like the story to be able to stand seeing the insufferable face of actor Willy Toledo. I detest this repugnant man, and I'm breaking my rule of not caring about actors' personal lives, but this bastard is a communist and an activist who defends the Cuban and Venezuelan dictatorships. He plays Leo, Alec's neighbor, who is married to Maria. Fortunately, they gave him a dark character, just like that piece of shit in real life.

I can only recommend it. It's available on Netflix, and of course, there's an unexpected twist at the end, as in everything Oriol Paulo does. Whether you like the final twist or not is up to you. I'm just here to recommend it. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Pasé por alto esta serie cuando se estrenó y no entiendo por qué no la vi. Entre tantas producciones, acabó quedando en el olvido, hasta que hace poco alguien me la recordó y no dudé en verla.

Si Oriol Paulo participa en una producción, escribiendo el guion y dirigiendo, tengo que verla porque me encanta su estilo narrativo, especialmente los thrillers, ya que es un cineasta al que le gusta incluir muchos giros argumentales en sus historias.

En cuanto a series, la que más me gustó fue El inocente, esa gran adaptación que hizo de la novela de Harlan Coben, que ya tenía excelentes giros y vueltas, y el director los intensificó. En esta ocasión, vuelve a adaptar una novela, en este caso de un escritor español llamado Mikel Santiago. No tengo ni idea del libro, nunca lo he leído, así que no sé hasta qué punto es fiel a la novela o si también mantiene la misma estructura y giros argumentales.

Oriol Paulo escribe todos los episodios y también los dirige. La historia tiene un comienzo impactante, que nos sumerge en la vida de un compositor que ha tenido bastante éxito componiendo música para películas. Ha ganado premios y es famoso en su campo. Sin embargo, este hombre llamado Alex de la Fuente no es completamente feliz. Vive en un estado de tristeza porque su matrimonio no funcionó. Está divorciado, sus dos hijos viven con su exmujer, que ahora tiene una relación con otro hombre, y por eso se ha refugiado o escondido en Tremor, un pueblo costero donde el diablo dejó sus últimas huellas.

Lo que desencadena el conflicto a lo largo de la historia es que una noche, después de salir a cenar con sus únicos vecinos, una pareja que a primera vista parece muy simpática, Alex es alcanzado por un rayo en medio de una tormenta. Se salva milagrosamente y, a partir de entonces, comienza a tener intensas visiones, en su mayoría de cosas que van a suceder, aunque también se cuelan algunas que corresponden al pasado. Aquí debo señalar que ya parecía tener este tipo de premoniciones, porque antes de ir a cenar tuvo una que le decía que no saliera de casa.

¿Qué diablos es real, qué es fantasía? ¿Alex se está volviendo loco o realmente tiene algún tipo de poder para tener premoniciones? ¿Es solo él, o es algo que forma parte del legado de su familia? Se plantean muchas preguntas y, capítulo tras capítulo, vamos conociendo más sobre su vida, su pasado, con quién sale, quiénes son realmente sus vecinos y, sobre todo, ese gran peligro que parece acecharlos a todos en tremor y que les resulta imposible cambiar.

¿Es inmutable lo que está escrito en el libro del destino? ¿No se puede cambiar, hagas lo que hagas? Estas preguntas son muy interesantes y una de las razones por las que me mantuve preguntándome hacia dónde iría esta historia, siempre expectante por ver dónde introduciría el cineasta sus giros argumentales para dejarnos sin palabras.

Disfruté de la historia, a pesar de ser una de las personas más escépticas del mundo, aunque también debo aclarar que no es la mejor de Oril Paulo. Hay detalles que no me han gustado del todo. Uno de ellos es la maldita duración de la serie. Son ocho episodios, pero como el ritmo no es tan rápido y se toma su tiempo para muchas cosas, acaba siendo muy larga. La forma ideal de contar esta historia habría sido con unos pocos episodios bien condensados. Estas decisiones sobre cuántos episodios hay son siempre el resultado de negociaciones entre la productora y los creadores.

Hay un episodio centrado en una subtrama de la historia que me pareció completamente innecesario. No es un mal episodio, incluso me gustó, pero si lo analizo en términos de la historia en su conjunto, termina siendo material para rellenar tiempo de pantalla. Me parece excesivo que dediquen tanto tiempo a un trauma del pasado de Judy, la novia de Alec en Tremos, a quien le encanta hacer cositas en la cama todo el tiempo. Una mujer así es lo que tanto queremos, que nos pidan hacer cosas sucias todo el tiempo. Pero su trauma, además de ser bastante sádico, realmente no tiene ningún peso en la historia central. Para mí, esto fue como una concesión de propaganda feminista. Simple.

Y vaya si me tuvo que gustar la historia para poder soportar ver la insufrible cara del actor Willy Toledo. Detesto a este hombre repugnante, y estoy rompiendo mi regla de no preocuparme por la vida personal de los actores, pero este cabrón es un comunista y un activista que defiende las dictaduras cubana y venezolana. Interpreta a Leo, el vecino de Alec, que está casado con María. Afortunadamente, le dieron un personaje oscuro, igual que ese pedazo de mierda en la vida real.

Solo puedo recomendárselas. Está disponible en Netflix y, por supuesto, hay un giro inesperado al final, como en todo lo que hace Oriol Paulo. Que les guste o no el giro final es cosa de cada uno. Yo solo estoy aquí para recomendarla. Cuentame que te parece en los comentarios.
