Today I'll give you my opinions on 'Priscilla.' If you've ever been curious about Elvis' story, but from a more real, rawer perspective, without so much legend stuff and more from the eyes of Priscilla, his wife, you've come to the right place. The film is based on Priscilla's memoir, "Elvis and Me," so from there you can already imagine that we're going to see her life, that life that was always overshadowed by the giant glow of Elvis, the King. From the first minute you realize that this is NOT the typical Elvis biopic. Here they're not going to fill your head with his hits, no, no, no. Here the idea is to tell you the story with images that leave you shocked, and an atmosphere that catches you.

In fact, in the ENTIRE film you're not going to hear A SINGLE song. about Elvis... it turns out the family didn't give permission to use the music, that seemed super strange to me at first, it kind of made me think... watching an Elvis movie and not hearing his voice... But, that forces you to pay more attention to the characters, to what's really happening, to what it feels like, and in the end it gives you a totally different experience, something you didn't expect at all.. this is where Sofia Coppola, the director does her job, if you've already seen "Marie Antoinette" or "Lost in Translation", you'll instantly recognize her style, that very detailed way of doing things, each scene in "Priscilla" seems like a painting, everything is so well thought out, with those colors that take you straight to the 50s and 60s, with that glamour, but also with that kind of murky vibe, you know? I felt totally transported to that time, really... incredible dresses, pastel colors everywhere and a feeling of nostalgia, like constant melancholy. Coppola has that gift of showing beauty in solitude, and that is evident in every little piece of this film.

Hola a todos, espero que estén súper bien hoy, en esta ocasión les quiero hablar de una película bastante.. curiosa, seguramente han oído hablar de ella, ya que dividió a muchas personas.. hoy les daré mis opiniones de 'Priscilla". Si alguna vez les dio curiosidad saber la historia de Elvis, pero desde un lado más real, más crudo, sin tanta cosa de leyenda y más desde los ojos de Priscilla, su esposa, llegaron al lugar correcto.. la peli se basa en el libro de memorias de Priscilla, "Elvis and Me", así que ya desde ahí te imaginas que vamos a ver la vida de ella, esa vida que siempre quedó como opacada por el brillo gigante de Elvis, el Rey.. desde el minuto uno te das cuenta de que esto NO es el típico biopic de Elvis, aquí no te van a llenar la cabeza con sus temazos, no, no, no.. aquí la onda es contarte la historia con unas imágenes que te dejan impactado, y una atmósfera que te atrapa.

De hecho, en TODA la película no vas a escuchar NI UNA canción de Elvis.. resulta que la familia no dio permiso para usar la música, a mí eso me pareció súper raro al principio, como que me dejó pensando.. ver una peli de Elvis y no escuchar su voz.. Pero, eso te obliga a ponerle más atención a los personajes, a lo que está pasando de verdad, a lo que se siente, y al final te da una experiencia totalmente diferente, algo que no te esperabas para nada.. aquí es donde Sofia Coppola, la directora hace su trabajo, si ya viste "María Antonieta" o "Perdidos en Tokio", vas a reconocer al toque su estilo, esa forma tan detallista de hacer las cosas, cada escena de "Priscilla" parece una pintura, todo está tan bien pensado, con esos colores que te llevan directo a los 50 y 60, con ese glamour, pero también con esa onda medio turbia, ¿sabes? Yo me sentí totalmente transportado a esa época, de verdad.. vestidos increíbles, colores pastel por todos lados y una sensación de nostalgia, como de melancolía constante, Coppola tiene ese don de mostrar la belleza en la soledad, y eso se nota en cada pedacito de esta película.

The film doesn't beat around the bush, it shows you how that teenage adoration turned into a super toxic, unbalanced relationship full of dark things, there is something VERY honest in how they show this dark side of Elvis: a guy trapped in his addictions, with a toxic attitude that left Priscilla totally isolated and unable to do anything.

Personally, I felt very sorry to see her there, trapped in that world that shone on the outside but was suffocating on the inside, where everything, absolutely EVERYTHING, revolved around Elvis. Yes, Elvis was charismatic and all, but he had a scary personality... and speaking of Priscilla, Kylie Spanney, the actress who plays her, did an incredible job, what a performance! Super subtle, but with incredible strength... with a look, with a gesture, she transmits everything... her vulnerability feels real, in several scenes I connected with her suffering, with her confusion and with those moments where she tried to rebel a little.

But, here comes the interesting part: her character also has its complications, because although the film is called "Priscilla" and is based on her life, sometimes she feels like a passive figure, rather than the real protagonist.. sometimes Priscilla seems like a shadow, a silent figure that only exists within Elvis' world.. I was left wanting to know more about her. What were her dreams? What did she really want? What was in her head beyond Elvis? Now let's talk about Jacob Elordi as Elvis... here things are divided, some didn't like him at all and say it was a casting error, that he failed to capture the complexity of the character... I think so, he has presence, he has charisma, but to me his performance seemed a bit superficial, to be honest... at no point did I see the man behind the legend, I felt I was seeing a distant figure, as if untouchable. After seeing Austin Butler in "Elvis", this version of the King of Rock doesn't really have that much impact.

Cómo les decía, está historia nos cuenta la historia de Elvis desde la perspectiva de Priscilla, la mujer que estuvo años a su lado.. nos enteramos que Priscilla tenía ¡solo 14 años! cuando conoció a Elvis.. eso ya de entrada te hace pensar que esta relación... como que no va por buen camino, ¿no? la película no se anda con rodeos, te muestra cómo esa adoración de adolescente se convirtió en una relación súper tóxica, desequilibrada y llena de cosas oscuras, hay algo MUY honesto en cómo muestran este lado oscuro de Elvis: un tipo atrapado en sus adicciones, con una actitud tóxica que dejó a Priscilla totalmente aislada y sin poder hacer nada.

A mí, personalmente, me dio mucha pena verla ahí, atrapada en ese mundo que por fuera brillaba, pero por dentro era asfixiante, donde todo, absolutamente TODO, giraba alrededor de Elvis, sí, Elvis era carismático y todo, pero tenía una personalidad que daba miedo.. y hablando de Priscilla, Kylie Spanney, la actriz que la interpreta, lo hizo increíble, qué actuación! Súper sutil, pero con una fuerza increíble.. con una mirada, con un gesto, te transmite todo.. su vulnerabilidad se siente real, yo en varias escenas conecté con su sufrimiento, con su confusión y con esos momentos donde intentaba rebelarse un poquito.

Pero, aquí viene lo interesante: su personaje también tiene sus complicaciones, porque aunque la película se llame "Priscilla" y se base en su vida, a veces ella se siente como una figura pasiva, más que la protagonista de verdad.. a veces Priscilla parece como una sombra, una figura silenciosa que solo existe dentro del mundo de Elvis.. me quedé con ganas de saber más de ella ¿Cuáles eran sus sueños? ¿Qué quería ella de verdad? ¿Qué había en su cabeza más allá de Elvis? Ahora hablemos de Jacob Elordi como Elvis.. aquí la cosa se divide, a algunos no les gustó nada y dicen que fue un error de casting, que no logró captar lo complejo del personaje.. yo pienso que sí, tiene presencia, tiene carisma, pero a mí su actuación me pareció un poco superficial, la verdad.. en ningún momento vi al hombre detrás de la leyenda, sentí que estaba viendo a una figura lejana, como intocable. Después de ver a Austin Butler en "Elvis", esta versión del Rey del Rock como que... no impacta tanto

Another thing, the rhythm of the movie... there were times, I swear!, that I was glued to the screen, drooling over how pretty everything looked, with those settings that really drove you crazy in that era, but sometimes I felt that they gave more focus to making everything look pretty than to what the characters really felt... I kept thinking... where is the real Priscilla? This is supposed to be HER story, but many times they settle for showing us pretty images instead of getting into who she is... I think that's the big problem with the movie: it's called "Priscilla", it's based on her version of the story, but in the end we never really get to know her... it feels like she's always there, next to Elvis, but without her own voice.

The phrase "a bird in a gilded cage" fits her perfectly, I would have loved to see her explode more, understand what she was thinking, feel how she changed throughout the film... Has it ever happened to you that you see a movie that is beautiful, but inside it leaves you disappointed? Well, that happened to me with "Priscilla", it is beautiful, but in the story it seemed to lack impact, power... There were scenes where I screamed inside: "More dialogue! More depth! I want to know more about Priscilla, not just see her suffer!"... another topic that will surely give something to talk about is how they show Elvis here, because for years they have sold us a perfect image of him, but this film shows you his darkest side: his addictions, how he manipulated people, how he treated Priscilla... he is not the music idol that many expect to see, and that will shock some, but it seemed to me that it was necessary to show it that way. It reminds us that even the biggest icons have their shadows, and that behind the legend of Elvis there was a super unbalanced and painful relationship.

Otra cosa, el ritmo de la película.. hubo momentos, ¡te lo juro!, que me quedé pegado a la pantalla, babeando con lo linda que se veía todo, con esos escenarios que te metían de cabeza en esa época, pero a veces sentía que le daban más foco a que todo se viera bonito que a lo que realmente sentían los personajes.. me quedé pensando... ¿y dónde está la verdadera Priscilla? Se supone que esta es SU historia, pero muchas veces se conforma con mostrarnos imágenes lindas en vez de meterse de lleno en quién es ella.. creo que ahí está el gran problema de la peli: se llama "Priscilla", se basa en su versión de la historia, pero al final no llegamos a conocerla de verdad.. se siente como si siempre estuviera ahí, al lado de Elvis, pero sin voz propia.

La frase "un pajarito en una jaula de oro" le queda perfecta, me hubiera encantado verla explotar más, entender qué pensaba, sentir cómo cambiaba a lo largo de la película.. ¿Alguna vez les ha pasado que ven una película que es preciosa, pero que por dentro como que te deja decepcionado? bueno, eso me pasó con "Priscilla", es hermosa, pero en la historia como que le faltó impacto , poder.. Había escenas donde yo gritaba por dentro: "¡Más diálogo! ¡Más profundidad! ¡Quiero saber más de Priscilla, no solo verla sufrir!".. otro tema que seguro va a dar de qué hablar es cómo muestran a Elvis acá, porque por años nos han vendido una imagen perfecta de él, pero esta película te muestra su lado más oscuro: sus adicciones, cómo manipulaba a la gente, cómo trató a Priscilla.. no es el ídolo de la música que muchos esperan ver, y eso a alguno le va a chocar, pero a mí me pareció que era necesario mostrarlo así. Nos recuerda que hasta los íconos más grandes tienen sus sombras, y que detrás de la leyenda de Elvis había una relación súper desequilibrada y dolorosa..

Priscilla is one of those movies that... are going to divide waters, I mean, visually, it's great, the idea of ​​giving Priscilla a voice, a great opportunity... but I feel that it lacked more emotional focus, it seems a little distant and in the end, it doesn't really impact you, if you ask me, I'd give it a 6.5/10. Priscilla es de esas pelis que.. van a dividir aguas, o sea, visualmente, es genial, la idea de darle voz a Priscilla, una gran oportunidad.. pero siento que le faltó más enfoque emocional, como que se queda un poco distante y al final, no te llega a impactar, si me preguntan a mí, le doy un 6.5/10. No es mala, pero tampoco es que me voló la cabeza, como esperaba.. es de esas películas que te dejan pensando, eso sí.. algunos van a quedar fascinados con lo linda que es y cómo intentan mostrar el lado más real de Elvis, pero otros van a sentir que la historia de Priscilla se pierde un poco en el camino, al final, te hace reflexionar sobre quién era Elvis de verdad, más allá del mito, pero... como que no llega a profundizar tanto como uno quisiera.. y bueno eso es todo por hoy, les dejare el tráiler aquí abajo, cuéntenme, ya vieron está película?
