[Movie review] [Eng | Esp] Avatar: The Way of Water
Welcome my dear aquatic travelers of the internet and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, something very common that happens with the sequels is that they are compared directly with their predecessor, which results in the latter having more demands, especially if the prequel was a success, this was the first thought I had when I heard about the existence of "Avatar: The Way of Water" because the bar was already quite high. Without further ado, prepare to adapt to the water because we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros acuáticos del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, algo muy común que pasa con las secuelas es que son comparadas directamente con su antecesora, siendo que produce que esta tenga más exigencias, sobre todo si la precuela fue un éxito, este fue el primer pensamiento que tuve cuando supe de la existencia de "Avatar: The Way of Water" debido a que el listón ya se encontraba bastante alto. Sin más que agregar prepárense para adaptarse al agua pues estamos por comenzar.

The soundtrack fulfills its role of accompanying the different moments of tension and action in a good way, however, that cultural feeling that was marked in the first installment is completely lost, ergo, the section lacks that touch that allows it to transmit something more through his music.
La banda sonora cumple su rol de acompañar de buena forma los diferentes momentos de tensión y acción, sin embargo, se pierde completamente ese sentimiento cultural que se marcó en la primera entrega, ergo, el apartado carece de ese toque que le permita transmitir algo más mediante su música.
The construction of the world is good but it could have been better, if the prequel showed us anything it was that it could build extremely beautiful settings, loaded with details and beings that truly make them feel alive, although the setting of this film has some moments where stands out, most of them feel empty and boring, they lack that organic factor that truly makes the context gain greater value. In terms of society, a lot is lost, the introduction of the new Na'vi is a good attempt but they lack their own culture that had been so prominent previously, this is a problem because the film itself makes it clear that despite being from the same species are not equal, something that only remains in words.
La construcción del mundo está bien pero pudo ser mejor, si algo nos demostró la precuela es que podía construir escenarios sumamente hermosos, cargados de detalles y seres que verdaderamente los hacen sentir vivos, si bien la ambientación de este filme tiene algunos momentos en donde se destaca en su mayoría se sienten vacíos y aburridos, le falta ese factor orgánico que verdaderamente haga que el contexto cobre mayor valor. De cara a lo social se pierde muchísimo, la introducción de los nuevos Na'vi es un buen intento pero carecen de una cultura propia que tanto había relucido anteriormente, esto es un problema debido a que el propio filme deja claro que pese a ser de la misma especie no son iguales, algo que solo se queda en palabras.
The plot often feels tedious, this is because the film has few moments where it really becomes interesting, most of the time it only focuses on silly fights that are inconsequential; The confrontations are good but they feel like something decaffeinated from what had already been seen. The narrative feels recycled, the above is supported by the fact that exactly the same thing happens as in the first installment, only less epic, and even the threat itself feels less imposing and there are fewer acts that really make the viewer feel helplessness and rage against the villains, the plot twists are few and the only interesting death that should matter loses relevance because the character was an unknown; The only interesting point I tried to make was about the Na'vi deity and how he acts in the world, but this is never explored in a good way so it ends up being a sell-out. The duration seems eternal, the film takes many turns and has few attractive moments, which results in having periods of time that feel completely boring.
La trama se siente en muchas ocasiones como algo tedioso, esto se debe a que el filme tiene escasos momentos en donde realmente se torne interesante, la mayor parte del tiempo solo enfoca peleas tontas que son intrascendentes; los enfrentamientos están bien pero se sienten como algo descafeinado de lo que ya se había visto. La narrativa se siente reciclada, lo anterior se sustenta en el hecho de que sucede exactamente lo mismo que en la primera entrega solo que menos épico, siendo incluso que la propia amenaza se siente menos imponente y existen menos actos que realmente hagan que el espectador sienta impotencia y enojó contra los villanos, los giros argumentales son escasos y la única muerte interesante que debería importar pierde relevancia debido a que el personaje era un desconocido; el único punto atractivo que intento tocar fue sobre la deidad de los Na'vi y en como está actúa en el mundo, pero esto nunca es explorado en buena forma por lo que termina siendo una venta de humo. La duración se hace eterna, la cinta da muchas vueltas y tiene pocos momentos atractivos, lo que deriva en que tenga lapsos de tiempo que se sienten completamente aburridos.
The new characters are a mix between being boring and being unknown, this is a quite problematic error if you take into account that a great weight of the narrative falls on them, none of them really have an interesting characterization and the few points of interest they have do not. They are developed in a good way, this is disappointing because in the first installment it had already been made clear that they could make complex and well-constructed characters; This is also reflected in the way in which they relate, they are supposed to be a family but they have very few scenes where they really seem like such a thing, in fact, one of them is kidnapped for more than half of the film and no one seems to care either way. Once again it is humanity destroying the planet, in the first place it is completely stupid that after destroying the earth they continue to have such an absurd mentality of maintaining the same lifestyle (Although expected of our species) however, the biggest problem lies in the The fact that the villain of the first installment is brought back converted into a pathetic and completely emotional guy, all this kills what the character meant and the imposingness that he transmitted, this new direction of the character makes him more pathetic and lacking in being able to fulfill with the role it is supposed to have.
Los nuevos personajes son una mezcla entre ser aburridos y ser desconocidos, esto es un error bastante problemático si se toma en cuenta de que gran peso de la narrativa recae en estos, ninguno posee realmente una caracterización interesante y los pocos puntos de interés que tienen no son desarrollados de buena forma, esto es decepcionante debido a que en la primera entrega ya se había dejado claro que podían hacer personajes complejos y bien construidos; esto también se ve reflejado en la forma en que estos se relacionan, se supone que son una familia pero tienen muy pocas escenas en dónde realmente parecen tal cosa, de hecho, uno de ellos se encuentra secuestrado por más de la mitad de la película y a nadie parece importarle de ninguna forma. Nuevamente los villanos son los humanos destrozando al planeta, en primer lugar es completamente estúpido que después de destruir la tierra estos sigan teniendo una mentalidad tan absurda de mantener el mismo estilo de vida (Aunque esperable de nuestra especie) sin embargo, el mayor problema recae en el hecho de que el villano de la primera entrega sea traído de vuelta convertido en un tipo patético y completamente emocional, todo esto mata lo que el personaje significó y la imponencia que transmitía, está nueva dirección del personaje lo vuelve más patético y carente de poder cumplir con el rol que se supone que tiene.
Avatar: The Way of Water is not an absolute disaster but compared to its prequel it leaves a lot to be desired, it makes mistake after mistake in all its sections, with its world construction and its characters being the ones that are most affected, its biggest problem is not knowing how to use its vast amount of time in a good way, so it ends up feeling excessively long for the little content it contains. It is for all the above that it deserves 3.5 stars out of 7, trying to focus on the protagonist and his family is only a good idea if you use that approach so that the viewer becomes attached to it, otherwise time is just wasted.
Avatar: The Way of Water no es un absoluto desastre pero en comparación con su precuela deja muchísimo que desear, comete error tras error en todos sus apartados, siendo su construcción del mundo y sus personajes los que más se ven afectados, su mayor problema es no saber utilizar de buena forma su basta cantidad de tiempo por lo que termina sintiéndose exageradamente larga para el poco contenido que alberga. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 3.5 estrellas de 7, tratar de enfocarse en el protagonista y en su familia es buena idea únicamente si utilizas ese enfoque para que el espectador se encariñe con esto, de otra forma solo se pierde el tiempo.
