Nostalgic about TV?

Today I had a dream about live TV, and woke up with a deep feeling of Nostalgia of watching live TV. The commercial of the sitcoms and live shows from TBS, BET and MTV. Even primetime shows like The Wayan Bros, The Wire, New York Undercover and other 90s shows.

But I woke up thinking about those amazing commercials. From St Ides, to Mountain Dew, they had this colorful commercials featuring rappers, athletes and other personalities promoting products, but they were all looking fly. Even the advertising seemed hip and out of this world.

So I went out looking for something live online, the famous IPTV. However it wasn't as easy to check out. I found this site, which is semi-legal, but also interesting as you can get TV channels from all around the world. From Mexico, to Philipines to Canada, to the US. Of course the US is one with the most channels, with music, sports, news, religious, nature and others. Unfortunately, most of these channels seemed automated and not as many give you that 'live show' experience.

I found this music channel called Trace Urban, and Veevo 90s and 2000s. But they do seemed like a bit automated. Like just youtube video after youtube video, but there is no VJ coming up like what rap city used to have. It seems a bit annoying as that's usually the part I wanted to skip back then but now I yearn.

I remember when I was in college, I always used to have a TV on the background playing some random stuff. From CNBC financial news channel in the morning, to music videos in the evening and I actually was a big fan of TechTV. A TV station devoted to technology. Learning about tech with The Screensavers, with Leo Laporte and Patrick Norton. It was a vibe, a vibe that I don't see myself doing anymore, but wonder if I could still replicate something similar.

I mean don't get me wrong, I love that we have no advertising, or at least we can block it with a few extensions. But is sad too that we can't get to see as much of that 'live' content, and on demand is just what's only out there. So I wonder if people out there still watch Live TV? Do you have IPTV channels on your phone? Any live shows?

Kudos on completing your daily Ecency leaderboard quest, @jza! That nostalgic trip through 90s TV commercials and sitcoms is truly heartwarming.

Tipped with Ecency POINTS.

I still watch live TV once in a while, mostly for news, sports, or just having something playing in the background. I know on-demand is more convenient, but I completely get what you mean about missing the randomness of live programming, especially the old music channels where the VJs and commercials were actually part of the experience. I’d love to find a good mix of live FNF channels that still feels like turning on the TV back in the 90s or 2000s.

I feel you. I really do 🙂
I vividly remember years back when I literally owned the remote control and could sleep with it under my pillow. Watching TV shows were my thing, almost the major thing that gave my life meaning.

Over time, that part of me + its spark seems farfetched. You know just as you did, I felt nostalgic some months ago and found myself scrolling through channels in search of what would just be worth my time and I settled for DOC at the end of the day.

I'm familiar with Trace urban. One of my go-to channels back then. Back then. 🙂‍↔️

Yeah I also used to watch Veevo and see that is still going on. But they are completely automated now, there is no live shows. Which is sort of a shame, since I was expecting some personality.

That's so sad but what can I say 🤷🏼‍♀️... The world is moving and most things, painfully the specials have been made to take the backseat.
Automation makes it all efficient but without human touch, it feels a little soulless.

Yeah I remember back in the 2000s they used to have a CGI VJ blabbering between videos. Maybe someone can do that with AI right now. I wrote about that a while back, if AI could replace content creators, DJs and VJs.

Blabbering huh 😏😂... Lmao.

I won't doubt the possibility of that. I mean, it was once there until it wasn't. But that doesn't mean it can't be pulled back up again, by the capable persons of course.
