I'm talking about the movie "Basic Instinct," which was released in 1992, directed by Paul Verhoeven, and written by Joe Eszterhas.

Hola amigos de Hive y en especial a la comunidad de Movies& Tvshows, como siempre espero que se encuentren bien al igual que sus familiares y amigos, en el día de hoy paso por acá para hablarles de una película que vi por estos días y me gustó muchísimo, les hablo de la película "Bajos instintos", o como su nombre lo indica en el español "Basic Instinct" que se estrenó en el año 1992, la cual está dirigida por Paul Verhoeven, y escrita por Joe Eszterhas.

"Bajos instintos" es una de las películas más icónicas y controvertidas de los años 90, es una película con rasgos eróticos, no solo rompió taquillas, sino que también fue uno de los mayores éxitos comerciales de ese año, pues además marcó un antes y un después en la forma de cómo Hollywood representaba el sexo, el poder y la moralidad. Más de tres décadas después, sigue siendo un referente cuando se habla de erotismo cinematográfico, actuaciones legendarias y provocación calculada.

La trama de esta cinta gira en torno al detective Nick Curran, papel que desempeña Michael Douglas, un policía de San Francisco con un pasado turbio, problemas con el alcohol, cocaína y un incidente donde mató accidentalmente a dos turistas durante un operativo. Su frialdad contrasta con la intensidad de Nick, creando una química explosiva. Paul Verhoeven, fiel a su estilo, no se conforma con ser provocador por puro escándalo.

Bajos instintos es una crítica a la moralidad estadounidense de los 90, a la hipocresía puritana y a cómo la sociedad proyecta sus miedos sobre la sexualidad femenina desinhibida. Catherine representa el miedo al poder sexual de la mujer, una bisexual que escribe sobre asesinatos, que no pide permiso y que controla su narrativa. El filme juega constantemente con una interrogante ¿es Catherine la asesina o solo una escritora que disfruta jugando con la policía? ¿O ambas cosas? Verhoeven nunca resuelve del todo la duda, y eso es parte de su genialidad. El final, con esa frase susurrada y el picahielos bajo la cama, deja al espectador en un limbo delicioso.

El erotismo de la película no es gratuito. Las escenas de sexo son explícitas para la época, y aún hoy generan debate, pero sirven para avanzar en la trama y profundizar en los personajes. El encuentro entre Nick y Catherine es animal, violento y casi ritual, el de Catherine con su novia Roxy, papel que interpreta Leilani Sarelle, añade capas de celos y bisexualidad que enriquecen el conflicto. Por otra parte, la banda sonora con esos sintetizadores oscuros y sensuales, envuelve todo en una atmósfera hipnótica. Críticos de la época la acusaron de sexista, homófoba y explotadora.

Grupos activistas protestaron por la representación de personajes bisexuales y lesbianas como potenciales psicópatas. Sin embargo, con el paso del tiempo, muchas lecturas han cambiado. Hoy se ve más como una sátira del voyeurismo masculino. Técnicamente, la película es impecable. La fotografía captura la San Francisco nocturna con tonos fríos y brillantes que contrastan con el calor de las escenas íntimas. El montaje mantiene un buen ritmo sin perder tensión. Bajos instintos no es una película perfecta, ya que su machismo implícito en ciertos momentos y la forma en que a veces reduce a los personajes femeninos a objetos de deseo, pueden resonar en una lectura actual.

Sin embargo, esta es una película que no por eso se le quitan méritos, ya que es un filme valiente, arriesgado y enormemente entretenido que se atreve a mirar de frente los instintos más oscuros del ser humano, el deseo, el poder, la violencia y la mentira. Treinta años después, sigue siendo imposible apartar la mirada de este filme, pues Como Catherine Tramell, la película te seduce, te manipula y al final te deja preguntándote si realmente viste la verdad o solo lo que ella quiso que vieras. Esta cinta es un clásico indiscutible del género erótico que marcó una época y que, guste o no, nadie ha logrado igualar en audacia y magnetismo, así que sin más se las recomiendo mucho y espero la disfruten.
