Movies & TV Shows Community Highlight #1089

Hello! As part of our ongoing efforts to improve both interaction and curation in the Movies and TV Shows Community, this post is one of many to highlight and boost members of the past week that have posted what we believe is exceptional content.
The Details
Each week, our Moderators will monitor the posts within the Movies and TV Shows Community and handpick the ones that are believed to stand out under numerous factors: post quality, length, and subject.
There are no entry requirements, and this is not a contest, but simply a roundup intended to provide additional exposure to all of you for your efforts. Just have fun posting in the Movies & TV Shows Community and five or more posts will be chosen frequently.

A few years ago, I captured the trailer for a movie that premiered during the pandemic. With so much going on during that time, I missed it, and then forgot to check what it was about. Finally, a few days ago, I found out the context when I saw an advertisement on Studio Universal, a cable channel, which has been airing its "Navilovers" segment since the beginning of this month.

Cillian Murphy leads the cast, and once again, he delivers a visceral performance, building a highly complex character (although the script itself chooses not to delve deeper into this aspect), transcending the expected boundaries of someone in that specific situation. His voice modulations, body language, and expressive gazes pave the way for the creation of someone with whom we can easily develop empathy. The supporting cast is also good (a great supporting role, by the way), but he - literally - always steals every scene he's in, because his character is very sunny within the perspective valued in the narrative.

Dead Poets Society is an inspiring film because it invites us to dream and think differently. Who among us who has seen this film hasn't wished they had a teacher like John Keating? How many times has a subject or topic of study lost its appeal simply because of the rigid and boring way that knowledge was conveyed? But above all, I think one of the things that makes Keating a beloved and memorable character is that he isn't afraid to show himself as he is, nor does he hide his passion for poetry and for authors like Thoreau, Whitman, or Shelley. And of course, to play such a character, there was no one better than Robin Williams, the mastermind behind Sean Maguire in Good Will Hunting or the equally iconic Patch Adams. Williams' talent, his capacity for humor and improvisation, but also for drama and tragedy, work very well in service of a script that earned Tom Schulman an Oscar and a film that won several awards around the world. While it's now considered a cult classic, it was also a box office success in its time: made on a budget of around $16 million, the film grossed approximately $235 million worldwide. Not bad at all.

In the case of the film I am sharing today, called F1: The Movie (produced by Warner Bros. and Apple TV), it tells the story of Sonny Hayes, played by the well-known Brad Pitt. In previous years, he was a great promise in Formula 1, but an accident left him out of the game for a very long time. In fact, he almost lost his life. In the years that followed, Sonny Hayes devoted himself to other types of racing, perhaps more at an amateur level, but always with his characteristic attitude, which could be described as egotistical or arrogant, since his talent somehow spoke for itself. However, there were other aspects that made him seem like a kind of lone wolf, a wandering soul, a person with some frustrations that undoubtedly caused him to make mistakes or destabilized him in his daily life.

The most unsettling part of this experience is the fact that the story is told from a position of vulnerability and youth, making the narrative far more impact than if it had dealt with the same thematic material from the perspective of adulthood.

Congratulations to everyone that was chosen, and thank you to everyone posting in Movies and TV Shows! We look forward to the next report and highlighting even more of you.
Thank you very much ✨
