Hola amigos cinéfilos, espero se encuentren teniendo una buena semana. Estuve buscando una película diferente a las que suelo ver, así que di con una un tanto antigua del año 1996 y dirigida por Isabel Coixet, este film lleva por nombre: Cosas que nunca te dije y que tiene un trama entre el romance, la comedia y el drama de la vida misma y sus matices dentro de las relaciones y de la propia historia de cada uno de sus personajes. Así que los invito a leer mi reseña 💫.

Hello cinephile friends, I hope you are having a good week. I was looking for a different movie than the ones I usually watch, so I found an old one from 1996 and directed by Isabel Coixet, this film is called: Things I never told you and has a plot between romance, comedy and drama of life itself and its nuances within relationships and the history of each of its characters. So I invite you to read my review 💫.

En la ciudad de Oregón en los Estados Unidos nuestra protagonista llamada Ann (Lili Taylor) es una joven llena de vida que trabaja en una pequeña tienda de fotografía y de venta de cámaras de cualquier estilo, sin mucha emoción un día recibe la llamada de su pareja quien no se encuentra en la ciudad y que además por llamada le dice que ya no quiere seguir con la relación que ambos tienen. Esto destruye a Ann y le hace replantearse su vida completa, sobre todo su idea del amor y la forma en la que fácilmente las cosas pueden cambiar de un momento a otro.

In the city of Oregon in the United States our protagonist named Ann (Lili Taylor) is a young woman full of life who works in a small photography store and selling cameras of any style, without much emotion one day she receives a call from her partner who is not in town and also by call tells her that he no longer wants to continue with the relationship they both have. This destroys Ann and makes her rethink her whole life, especially her idea of love and the way things can easily change from one moment to the next.

Para pasar el despecho Ann se graba con una cámara muy de la época y va narrandole a su ahora ex-pareja todo lo que quiso decirle pero no tuvo el valor, todas las cosas que ella imaginaba vivir junto a él y todo lo que realmente significó para ella que el la amara. Estas cintas de video se las entrega a un vecino que trabaja en un lugar de encomiendas y le promete enviarlas con puntualidad, pero realmente no las envías y lo que hace es ver cada uno de los vídeos que Ann le confiaba y que este usaba para pasar un rato porque al parecer le gustaba ella y además quería saber el chisme de si estaba soltera o con una pareja.

To pass the spite Ann is recorded with a camera very of the time and is narrating to her now ex-partner everything she wanted to tell him but did not have the courage, all the things she imagined to live with him and everything that really meant to her that he loved her. These videotapes are given to a neighbor who works in a place of parcels and promises to send them on time, but really you do not send them and what he does is to see each of the videos that Ann trusted him and that he used to spend some time because apparently he liked her and also wanted to know the gossip of whether she was single or with a partner.

Pero las cosas cambian un poco para Ann cuando en su vida aparece un total desconocido llamado Don (Andrew McCarthy) quien tiene un trabajo bastante peculiar, el se encarga de atender llamadas para una empresa que trabaja con temas de salud mental y de bienestar, su trabajo es hablar con las personas y guiarlos a que tomen mejores decisiones dentro de los problemas que puedan estar viviendo, ya sea estar deprimidos, incluso tener ideas suicidas o estar pasando por una separación sentimental. El no es psicólogo o psiquiatra pero se encarga de este trabajo y a las personas les gusta escuchar lo que tiene para decir.

But things change a bit for Ann when in her life appears a total stranger named Don (Andrew McCarthy) who has a rather peculiar job, he is in charge of taking calls for a company that works with mental health and wellness issues, his job is to talk to people and guide them to make better decisions within the problems they may be living, either being depressed, even having suicidal ideations or going through a sentimental separation. He is not a psychologist or psychiatrist but he does this work and people like to hear what he has to say.

Para ser la primera película que veo de la directora Isabel Coixet me pareció un poco simple y algo aburrida, porque está historia tiene el sentido de darte un toque más cercano y humano sobre las relaciones humanas y cómo el amor se puede ver de distintas maneras y pasa por diferentes etapas. Aunque fue bastante corta sentí que no le encontraba un sentido a la historia, pero estuve leyendo que es una historia de estilo minimalista que no pretende ofrecerte grandes escenarios o una película de las que vemos hoy en día con una forma específica y muy atractiva de ver.

For being the first film I've seen from the director Isabel Coixet I found it a bit simple and a bit boring, because this story has the sense of giving you a closer and human touch about human relationships and how love can be seen in different ways and goes through different stages. Although it was quite short I felt that I didn't find a sense to the story, but I was reading that it is a minimalist style story that doesn't pretend to offer you big scenarios or a movie of the ones we see today with a specific and very attractive way of watching.

Me gustó que mostraran de forma continua la película aunque me pareciera pesada, porque así podía ver más detalladamente los dramas de cada uno de los personajes y cómo los protagonistas eran más que los dos personajes principales. El tema del amor lo muestran de manera realista, con sus desilusiones y falta de comunicación que hizo que Ann no pudiera comunicarse de buena manera con su ex-pareja y también luego con Don quien venía de un mundo en el que se sumergia en los caos de otros mientras su propia vida no tenía gran sentido para el.

I liked that they showed the film continuously even though it seemed heavy, because I could see in more detail the dramas of each of the characters and how the protagonists were more than the two main characters. The theme of love is shown in a realistic way, with its disappointments and lack of communication that made Ann unable to communicate in a good way with her ex-partner and also with Don who came from a world where he immersed himself in the chaos of others while his own life did not make much sense to him.

La soledad en la película muestra como los seres humanos no estamos preparados para momentos de instrospeccion y de estar con nosotros mismos, está historia refleja el deseo de los personajes por conseguir esa persona en la que puedan recargarse y confiar, pero también se puede ver qué existe un gran miedo a ser abandonado o a continuar con la vida luego de una separación. Son elementos que se aprecian y que hacen que la película sea más aceptable, aunque para mí fue un poco lenta y en algunas ocasiones no le encontraba sentido a lo que estaba mirando.

The loneliness in the film shows how human beings are not prepared for moments of introspection and to be with ourselves, this story reflects the desire of the characters to get that person in which they can recharge and trust, but you can also see that there is a great fear of being abandoned or to continue with life after a separation. These are elements that are appreciated and make the film more acceptable, although for me it was a little slow and sometimes I couldn't make sense of what I was watching.
