Vaselina 1978... Un Homenaje para Olivia Newton John [Esp/Eng]
Este tipo de películas me llaman la atención. El solo hecho de disfrutar de musicales, donde existe la mezcla de romance y comedia me llenan de emoción. Como firme amante de filmes de los 70 y 80 he revivido momentos con cintas como Sobreviviendo, Fiebre del Sábado por la Noche protagonizada por John Travolta. Posterior a Vaselina, también disfruté la segunda parte de la misma, sin dejar de lado la protagonizada por Kevin Bacon Footloose. Sin embargo, el día de hoy quiero rendir un gran homenaje a la cantante y actriz Olivia Newton John, quien hoy en día muchos lloran su desaparición física ocurrida este 8 de agosto 2022, luego de una ardua lucha contra el cáncer de mamas. Honor y fuerza a todas las mujeres que día a día valientemente deben enfrentar este terrible mal, Dios permita la recuperación de todas ellas, y conmino a las demás a cuidarse.
Por lo pronto, quien no tuvo la oportunidad de vivir momentos inolvidables con este filme, quien no conoció a Danny Zuko y a Sandy Olson observando sus grandiosos movimientos. Quien no bailó, o por lo menos tímidamente movió sus pies al escuchar estos temas. Lo cierto es que Vaselina en su tiempo fue un éxito taquillero, no fue una obra maestra pero logró el objetivo para el cual fue creado, que no era más que el de entretener a todo su público. Su ambientación a los años 50 le dió ese toque donde todas las adolescentes estaban enamoradas de Danny, y nosotros los chicos esperábamos por la dócil y luego extrovertida Sandy. Entonces amigos vamos todos a disfrutar de lo que fue, y lo que sigue siendo un símbolo de los clásicos musicales de la época. A mover todos el esqueleto, y si no la han visto, los invito a descargarla porque es digna de tenerla en nuestra cineteca.

This kind of movies catch my attention. Just the fact of enjoying musicals, where there is a mix of romance and comedy fills me with emotion. As a firm lover of films from the 70's and 80's I have relived moments with films like Surviving, Saturday Night Fever starring John Travolta. After Vaseline, I also enjoyed the second part of it, not to mention the one starring Kevin Bacon, Footloose. However, today I want to pay a great tribute to the singer and actress Olivia Newton John, who today many mourn his physical disappearance occurred this August 8, 2022, after an arduous struggle against breast cancer. El director de este mágico clásico fue Randal Kleiser, quien debutaría como director, pero que no solo cumplió esta función, sino que también es actor, guionista y productor. Este personaje lo conocemos por deleitarnos como director y productor de la famosa Laguna Azul y Fiesta de Despedida. Dirigió el Vuelo del Navegante, Colmillo Blanco, entre otras. En lo que respecta a la actuación, estuvo presente en el cortometraje Libertad de 1966, en los filmes Ricas y Famosas y Circuito. Desde mi punto de vista ,Vaselina fue un éxito total, y así lo han dicho muchos críticos. Contó con un presupuesto, vean esto, de 6.000.000 de dólares y recaudó casi 66 veces su valor, es decir, alcanzó la suma de casi 395.000.000 de dólares, ¡que tal!.
Pero si nos adentramos en Vaselina, cuyo genero está centrado en la comedia romántica, musical, y cine adolescente; debemos hacer mención que la misma estuvo basada en el musical del mismo nombre del año 1971, siendo adaptada a la gran pantalla en 1978. La producción estuvo bajo la mirada de Allan Carr y Robert Stigwood. En el guión estuvieron las manos de varias personas tales como Jim Jacobs y Warren Casey encargados del musical, el mismo productor Allan Carr realizó la adaptación, y para el guión como tal, éste estuvo bajo la pluma de Bronte Woodard.

Es válido resaltar, que para esta película participaron muchos actores entre principales y secundarios, sin embargo, me voy a basar en los más visibles. Por otro lado, también debo destacar que el filme en cuestión sirvió de trampolín para ambos protagonistas, avanzando cada uno de ellos en sus respectivos géneros. En primera instancia, y como las chicas van primero, tenemos a Olivia Newton John encarnando a la bella Sandy Olson. Esta bella dama ganó 4 premios Grammy, 10 American Music Awards, además de ser nominada a 2 globos de oro, y por si fuera fue inmortalizada con su estrella en el paseo de Hollywood.
Haciendo pareja con Olivia, tenemos al famoso John Travolta dándole vida al popular Danny Zuko. Quien no ha visto a John en sus grandes actuaciones, particularmente en la fabulosa y explosiva Contra Cara, filme que lo hizo resurgir. John también fue acreedor de la estrella en el paseo de los famosos de Hollywood. Fue ganador de un Globo de Oro y un Emmy, además de ser candidato a los premios Oscar en dos oportunidades, pero no tuvo la suerte de levantar la estatuilla.
Siguiendo con las actuaciones por allí presentamos a Stockard Channing cómo Betty Rizzo; Jeff Conaway fallecido en 2011, aquí le dió vida a Kenickie Murdoch; y no quisiera dejar de lado la actuación de Lorenzo Lamas, que aún siendo una actuación secundaria, este filme también lo catapultó al estrellato en su tiempo, aquí interpreta a Tom Chisum. Estamos en verano y ya las clases han terminado para un grupo de jóvenes que lo menos que hacían eran estudiar, jajaja. Pero todo inicia en ese verano cuando Danny Zuko y Sandy Olson se conocen e inician un romance de temporada, pero como todo comienzo tiene su final, ambos tienen que separarse ya que Sandy debe volver a su país, sin embargo, ocurre un cambio de planes y la chica se queda en Estados Unidos para estudiar en el Instituto Rydell, sitio donde estudia su amiga Frenchy. Lo que menos se imagina Danny es que cuando inicien las actividades en el instituto, sería inevitable que estas dos almas se vuelvan a encontrar.
Un Danny muy popular que tiene a todas las chicas locas por el, y una Sandy dócil e introvertida, situación que desagrada a las demás chicas por lo que no se llevan bien con ella. Como es lógico, los miembros de la pandilla hacen que Danny cuente sus vivencias de las vacaciones, que por cierto las exagera. Por otro lado las damas rosas hacen lo propio con Sandy, y por su puesto la situación desencadena en una de las deliciosas melodías para narrar las historias. Al encontrase los dos protagonistas, Danny debe ser todo un hombre y tiene que cuidar su reputación de macho, acciones que irritan a Sandy y esta sale corriendo llenas de lágrimas.

Danny se conmueve un poco, pero su imagen de macho vale más que lo que pueda sentir Sandy. A pesar de todo Sandy sigue enamorada de Danny, y éste también lo está pero le resulta muy bochornoso demostrarlo ante sus amigos. Poco a poco la cosa va cambiando y Danny empieza a salir con Sandy pero de forma un poco oculta, hasta participan en un concurso de baile, concurso donde por una jugarreta de amigos, separan a la pareja para que Danny baile con una exnovia que a su vez parece ser mejor bailarina que Sandy, nuevamente Sandy sale corriendo.
De verdad que estos bailes y las melodías me emocionan demasiado. Pero ya Sandy no desea ser la chica a quien todos rechazan, la chica tonta y dócil, por lo que las damas rosas hacen un cambio fabuloso con ella, y ahora Sandy se convertiría en la hermosa, dura y extrovertida chica a quienes todos aman. Danny al ver ese cambio dice, Sandy, y lógicamente se nos vienen más temas deliciosos, sin contar con los contagiosos bailes grupales y en solitario de cada uno de los intervinientes en este filme.
Lo cierto es que Randal Kleiser de verdad que tuvo un pincel para dirigir esta película, añadiendo elementos idóneos para que la cinta además de entretener, resultara un verdadero éxito taquillero. Como dije no fue una obra maestra, pero logro su cometido. Como no estar activo y llenos de energía con la presencia de una juventud, que para la época solo estaban pendientes de divertirse, conocer chicas, vivir romances, una época donde estaba de moda el Rock and Roll. Aquí existe la emoción de las carreras en aquellos descapotables antiguos, además de aquellas reuniones donde predominaban las hamburguesas y malteadas. Todos estos elementos forman parte de la cultura americana y fueron sumamente atractivos, y unidos a las canciones y bailes, fueron lo que llamamos la guinda del pastel.

Por tratarse de un musical, entonces, como olvidar la banda sonora a cargo de John Farrar, Barry Gibb y Louis St. louis. Particularmente he visto esta película un millón de veces, y de verdad que la banda sonora es de lo mejor, incluso me atrevo a afirmar que es superior a otras que han participado en filmes de este tipo. Me atrevo a decir, que hasta los espectadores no amantes de los musicales, aquí abrirán el camino para incorporar en sus mentes este tipo de películas. De hecho, el álbum de la banda sonora, para ese tiempo fue uno de los mejores vendido de todos los tiempos, superado por Fiebre del Sábado por la Noche.
Por otro lado debido éxito total de Vaselina, se dió paso a una secuela en 1982 protagonizada por mi amor Michelle Pfeiffer encarnando a Stephanie Zinone. No puedo decir nada negativo de las actuaciones ya que cada uno hizo lo que debía hacer en cada momento. Desde los actores principales, hasta los secundarios y extras estuvieron a la talla del filme. En fin fue una película que marcó nuestra época y quedó grabada en nuestras mentes. Sencillamente es un clásico que los amantes o no de los musicales no debe dejar de ver.
La músicas, las fotografías, las coreografias, los escenarios, indudablemente están bien logrados. Este es mi sencillo pero sincero homenaje a una de las más hermosas artistas que he visto, y que lamentablemente tuvo que sucumbir ante una de las más terribles enfermedades como lo es el cáncer. Apreciados hermanos cinéfilos, ha sido un verdadero gusto volver a interactuar con todos ustedes, espero que hayan disfrutado de la reseña y nos vemos en una nueva oportunidad. Saludos.

Así es hermano,está película es muy buena. Saludos mi pana.
Personalmente no me gustan los musicales, no disfruto eso que a cada rato deban cantar, pero cada vez que digo eso se me.olboda este film y que de niño veía en la TV, no cantaba las canciones, pero son fáciles de reconocer por ejemplo cuando los personajes de Travolta y Olivia narran el momento en dónde se conocieron o el tema final en la feria.
Este es un gran film, divertido, buenas canciones, buenos personajes, todos y después de ver la película West Side Story dirigida por Spielberg, pienso que "Vaselina" es una versión divertida y suave de esa historia.
Así es hermano, como dije, habrán personas que no son amante de los musicales, pero en su momento disfrutaron de esta película y en cierta forma la llevan en la mente. Ciertamente es fácil de ver, muy divertida y esa escena que comentas de la narrativa en formato musical y el final de la feria, son momentos inolvidables.
