New Creature Feature, Kraken, Coming in 2025
Who doesn’t love a good creature feature movie? Sure, the most popular is probably the Godzilla franchise but there are a few giant water based creatures that are not nearly as popular. The Meg helped propel the megalodon and sharks back into theaters, then promptly screwed up with the sequel, in my opinion anyhow. Well, another giant water creature wants their time to shine, the Kraken. Talk about scary.
The Trailer is Light on Story
The trailer for Kraken is extremely light on story. All we really know is it is apparently fish farming and scientific tampering with producing bigger and better salmon.
Before we get too far into this, there is another movie named “Kraken” that is NOT the one I am discussing here. That one is about a Russian submarine and the Kraken being released out of the North Pole (already a more interesting story, if I say so myself).
Okay, back to the Kraken movie for this article.
We are introduced to a salmon fish farm in Norway that is trying to create better salmon via harmonics. Teenagers lose their lives, money is the end goal that causes the problem, and we are presented with muddy shots of tentacles to help suggest how big the Kraken is in relation to the actors.
Not the best setup but it works.
Another Creature Feature with Unique Twist
Sure, Godzilla and King Kong rule the creature feature monster movie universe with The Meg hanging out somewhere in the ocean but the world is big. Kraken looks to expand the water based giant monster movies we have.
I am all for giving it a chance though. I am a big fan of giant monster, creature feature, style movies.
Just, right now, there is not a lot to go on for Kraken. Maybe it is enough to get fans into the theaters but that will most likely be the diehards of the genre. The real money is made when the mainstream pop in and buy tickets for/rent/buy the movie.
What is your favorite creature feature? More recently mine is The Meg. I am a fan of the normal size creatures too (Universal monsters like Frankenstein and Dracula) but those are a different genre to me.
looks pretty scary, I like it.
