[Eng+Spa] Future Vision XPRIZE: the contest that wants a new Star Trek (and not another Black Mirror) 😄 +++ El concurso que quiere un nuevo Star Trek (y no otro Black Mirror) 😄

(Versión En español más abajo).

Hi everyone!

I'm from that generation that grew up glued to the original Star Trek series. And yes, I confess: I'm more excited by a bridge brimming with hope than another zombie apocalypse or killer robots 😂.

That's why I jumped for joy when I read about the Future Vision XPRIZE. I learned about this initiative from an article published a while back, which explained that Peter Diamandis, founder of XPRIZE, had just launched this million-dollar contest.

He wants optimistic sci-fi movies and series, where the future shines!

What's this amazing-sounding contest all about? 🚀

It's a global prize pool of more than $3.5 million.

Look for stories where technology helps humanity thrive.

No evil AI or bleak dystopias. Pure positive, Star Trek-style vision!

The motto says it all: “Show a future worth building."

Imagine real conflicts (because this isn't about the crazy fantasy of a future without human conflict… that wouldn't be humanly believable), but the problems must be solved with ingenuity and cooperation. 😊

The cracks behind this idea

  • Peter Diamandis: doctor, engineer, and die-hard Trekkie. He says Star Trek inspired his entire career.

  • XPRIZE: the geniuses behind contests like going to space or curing diseases. Now, bringing it to the big screen!

  • Rod Roddenberry: son of Gene Roddenberry, creator of Star Trek. He supports the project through the Roddenberry Foundation.

  • Top sponsors: Salesforce, Cathie Wood (ARK Invest), Jed McCaleb, and even Ben Horowitz.

A millionaire coalition of futuristic optimists! 😎 (and I think they're all Trekkies!)

Why do I love this movement? (And you'll love it too!)

Hollywood has saturated us with products in the pessimistic style of Black Mirror and Terminator. We're fed up with dystopian, negative, pessimistic, noir visions… In short, we need a break, and it's worth being able to enjoy a vision of the future that's more livable and pleasant.

I believe that humanity also knows how to build stars, not just destroy them! 🌟

As Peter's namesake (in two different languages, LOL 😅), I feel like we share that vibe.

I hope films emerge that make us dream of exploring, healing, and uniting.

It would be a pleasure to be able to see them all!

Your turn, film buff! (Call to action for fans) 👇

  • Watch early trailers when they become available at futurevisionxprize.com or YouTube. Like if you like optimism!

  • Are you a creator? Submit your idea before August 15th. (You could be the next parent of the Star Trek universe!)

  • Tell us in the comments: What optimistic, futuristic story would you like to see? (I'm not a film expert, and I might not be able to contribute much, but I do like to read a bit about the subject 😄).

Share this post if you believe in bright futures. See you next time! ✌️

(English version above).

¡Hola, comunidad!

¡Dale like si te gusta el optimismo!

  • ¿Eres creador?

Uhm, interesting initiative and curious proposal for the times we live in. It looks like an attractive contest with a good bait to entice people to participate. But as with everything in this life, it's best to stop a bit, think a little and analyze and evaluate further what may lie behind this proposal and international competition.

I admit that I am excited and encouraged to try to participate in this contest and dedicate some more time to other things that could potentially be much more profitable than what I am dedicating my time to now. But as always happens in these cases, we must always take these emotional matters with the proverbial "pinch of salt" to make sure we're not chasing a mirage.

Would I or any of my countrymen have any chance of winning any of the prizes? Uhm, let's see!!

Uhm, I am certainly very glad not to see Venezuela among the sanctioned countries excluded from the option of participating in this contest. But... ¿will it always be like this? Because with my already known luck and the way things are in the world, it is quite likely that before Aug 15, 2026 Venezuela could easily appear on that list and all my time and work in the production and creation of my trailer would be in vain. ¿What do you think?

On the other hand, regarding the rest of the rules, terms and conditions for participating in the contest, everything else seems to be within my and my fellow Venezuelans' possibilities of being able to win one of the prizes. EXCEPT...

Again, it's not just my well-known luck that, by reading the not-so-small print, but at the end of the rules, what discourages me a bit and reduces a little my enthusiasm in thinking to dedicate my time, work, and effort to participating in this international initiative and competition.

But certainly, just thinking if I could be able to attend in person on September 25th for the Moonshot Gathering in downtown Los Angeles. Plus the fact that I would have to submit myself to the arbitrary judgment and criterion of others regarding if my conduct, professionalism, background information and timely response to competition communications over the course of the contest has been appropriate, without being disqualified. I suppose, that naturally, all this makes me think twice before deciding whether or not to participate in this competition.

Because, among other things, there's also this last detail...

¡Holy Moly! AI-generated content is also allowed ¿Huh? Therefore, I suspect that the participation in the competence will be democratic enough for everyone to participate. Professional film-makers, Youtubers, video production enthusiasts, amateur videographers, bored nerd kids in a basement with access to internet and some AI chatbot and whatnot, right?

Sheesh! With just that, I can already anticipate that the competition will be fierce and ruthless. A fight that will be fought with knives and broken bottles among the contestants to reach any spot within the Top 10 Finalists. And that's without even considering the obvious lobbying power that some of the contestants might have over the judges and referees of the competition. LoL... ¿Que vaina tan vaina?

But well, in any case, I didn't mean to discourage you, my dear friend @pedrobrito2004. Your post has been very welcome news for me and a real breath of fresh air for my financial aspirations and eccentric sense of humor.

And please forgive me for the length and unpleasantness of my probably unexpected comment. But reading your great post got me so excited, that even being the defensive pessimist that I am, your content about this Future Vision XPRIZE initiative really gave me the inspiration to create an article on my blog about the caution and prudence we should all have in the face of such wonderful opportunities that appears out there and we suddenly think these will be easy and useful to rise us from the bottom.

Last but not least, anyway, I'm gonna summon some friends in Hive here, who I reckon strongly agree with the philosophy, objectives and general vision of the creators and sponsors of this Future Vision XPRIZE competition. Just to see what they think and if they'd be willing to team up with me to brainstorm together a heap of winning ideas as to be able to win one of the prizes with our entry and kickass trailer. So, here we go!

Hey! @amaterasusolar, @valued-customer and @antisocialist. Do you think that if we form a team together to brainstorm a bit on our current held knowledge & Know-How and we deliberate a little on our own vision of how to portray a hopeful, compelling and optimistic, technology-forward vision of humanity's future. Do you think we could create a three-minute video capable of winning one of the prizes in this competition?

Done!! ahora esperemos a ver que me dicen a ver si le echamos bolas!!

The possibility of ending up on the sanctions list isn't zero, and it's something that can happen; but it's like trying to predict whether an unexpected and unforeseen accident will kill us before that date. The future has varying degrees of uncertainty. 😅

In any case, I admit that I tend to be overly optimistic.

I wish your friends and your group the best of luck collaborating on creating a proposal for the contest. 👍

avatar

but it's like trying to predict whether an unexpected and unforeseen accident will kill us before that date.

You're absolutely right about this. Because if we're going to be really pessimistic, we could also think that we might choke with a mamón seed before the date, even though it's not mamones season yet.

In any case, I admit that I tend to be overly optimistic.

Everything has its advantages and disadvantages. And in this case, I suppose it's just a matter of lifestyle, past experiences, and temperament that lead us to imagine and re-create certain expectations.

I wish your friends and your group the best of luck collaborating on creating a proposal for the contest. 👍

Oh yeah, I have the hunch that the four of us could form a formidable winning team for this topic. Well, at least in terms of developing feasible ideas about what could truly constitute a hopeful, compelling and optimistic technology-forward vision of humanity's future. Because in my opinion, each of them are also optimistic like you and they are very well-informed individuals about what currently would need to be changed and developed to make humanity shine and vibrate like never before.

Me, in this department of ideas and because I'm a defensive pessimist, perhaps not so much. But I suppose my role could be that of the one who will try to produce, edit, and carry out the three-minute audiovisual work that recreates and showcases their vision of how the world could be improved.

Cheers!!

My issue is with the mandatory use of Googoyle...  LOL!

Humbly, that "valued" customer and I are not on speaking terms (per His demand).  So I doubt a team with the two of Us is optimal.

Still and all, whether I am in a team, or doing it alone, I will bring My Star Trek vision, where free energy flows making accounting for Our energy added into a system pointless (i.e., making money moot) and Humanity is freed to fulfill Our potential rather than having to plug Our energy in somehow to get enough energy accounting tokens to survive on.

Where, like in Star Trek, there is no money.

For that has been My vision for 30 years, and I will take this opportunity (if that really is what this is...) to put My vision out there.

Love always!

I'm no help on videos, I don't create them.

avatar

There is no need for you to create videos to help. All you need to do is contribute with feasible ideas about what could truly constitute a hopeful, compelling and optimistic technology-forward vision of humanity's future to be useful.

avatar

Ah, thank you. That Edward Bellamy book seems full of good ideas for trying to develop an interesting three-minute video for this competition.

Although we first will try to find a good summary of the 482 pages of the book from the link you gave us to get started brainstorming ideas.

avatar

It basically splits all the profits between all the people.
Everybody gets a share for doing their share of the work, which varies.

My vision is for Humanity on Our planet...  I will check out Their site...

I liked the idea of trying to outline a slightly more optimistic, yet realistic, vision of the future. It's a good idea to check the original page directly, because my explanation certainly fell short in several places.
