Movie Review: Dexter

It is funny that another way to start watching a new series is when you find out that the series will be leaving your streaming platform soon. I recently started watching Dexter simply because I found out it will be leaving Netflix on the 30th of March, even though I had it on my watchlist for a long time; the deadline gave me the boost to start the series. It is also weird for me that I am familiar with the argument on the series ending and even the funny memes, and now is when I am finally watching the show.

The series began in 206, which is 20 years ago, and that is a lot of time. Although it is old, the storyline and plot are right on point. It focuses on Dexter Morgan, who happens to work for the Miami Metro Police Department as a blood spatter analyst due to his love for blood and the stories they tell at the crime scenes. Then the twist comes with his other life. Dexter's other life is being a serial killer, but a serial killer for only other killers who escaped justice. Now the storyline makes us see justice and things from the eye of a serial killer who kills for justice. We are not meant to be rooting for a serial killer, but that is the package with this series. I am still amazed by Dexter's story and what he has to say most time for his actions.

The strong point for the series is Dexter's self awareness with his actions. He knows he has a darkness within him that gives him the urge to kill, but now he channels it towards killing killers. Making it a source of good things. Fighting for people who cannot fight for themselves in the eyes of the justice system. I have to give it to Dexter because he is still smart at covering his steps, especially when it comes to the killing part. Then he makes use of his job at the Miami Metro Police Department and the perks that come with it to get ahead of the killers. Like checking their background, finding out what they have done, investigating their actions, who they hurt, and above all, covering their tracks. The best back is the self-monologue Dexter goes through, which is an opening to his thought process. I have said it previously, we get to see things from Dexter's lens and why he kills, but the best part is the fact that he still questions himself, like he is looking for the good in himself.

The differentiating factor between Dexter and other killers is his moral code, and yes, I mean moral code. It is quite odd that a killer has a moral code because when it comes to killing a human being, all morals are definitely off the table. Dexter has to find a reasonable cause for killing, and that reasonable cause is the person a killer. Were the police able to catch them, or were they able to escape justice? If the answer is yes to the person, a killer that takes innocent lives, and they have escaped justice, then it is up to Dexter to make it right. The details that go into his work are remarkable, I have to say. If you have watched this series, kindly share your thoughts on it.

My Rating: 8.5/10

Ah. 8.5 Rating?
Maybe I will try watching Dexter again

A friend shared me to me some 3 years ago but I deleted it after 2 episodes.
Maybe I didn't just have the stomach for the killings. Lol

Yes, actually gets more from others. There are just so many reasons to like the bad guy. You'd love a killer.
