Movie Review: One Piece Season 2

With the success of season 1 of the live-action One Piece, it was no surprise that Netflix came back with a second season. It was a comeback for the straw hat pirate. They have finally gotten to the Grand Line to face the challenges that await them.

The second season came with lots of stories this time around, with the likes of the Loguetown, Reverse Mountain, Whisky Peak, Little Garden, and an emotional story from Drum Island. It wasn't a holdback at all. More emotions rolling into the line of the plot and the introduction of new characters that got my eyes glued to the screen.

One of the characters that kept me glued to my screen was the giants. They were so funny, and they had a unique sense of nobility and honour in the way they acted. They did a good job at giving Usopp the courage he needed to save his friend. In that episode, it had to be a tale of Usopp, for he was the man of the moment. It wasn't only about the protagonist characters like the giants, straw hat pirates, and others, but the antagonist characters did a superb job as well.

These characters were more action and they gave some good acting. It was all about the Baroque works and their assassins. Their quest to hunt Princess Vivi gave the series a new look. It made the series something to look forward to with every episode. Princess Vivi starting as an undercover assassin in the Baroque works and turning out to be a princess was a twist that made the crew invest in her return to the kingdom to save them before it's all over.

As for the assassins from the Baroque works, their unique powers and names were pretty funny. Especially the one who has to bring out boogies from his nose because they cause explosions. While the other brings out hands from the bodies of other humans. All are just a product of eating the devil's fruit.

Also, a different aspect of the series that gave it proper development was the exploration of different angles of stories. Every character had a story they were chasing, which in turn gives multiple angles to the series for the viewers watching. Then the acting of Inakio Godoy as Luffy gave it a goofy tone to the series' seriousness. Each episode was beyond funny, but action-comedy feel. The best thing about series like that is you get to laugh while things get serious, and they know when to bring in the comic relief, especially when the situation is getting serious.

From the looks of the second season, it is a show where there was a lot of character development from the Straw Hat Pirates, right from Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Usopp, and Chopper. The best for all was Zoro, coming from a defeat in the previous season and now getting new swords. It was an entire development for Zoro as he is pushed to make a name for himself as a fighter in order to become the best swordman, which is his dream. You get to see him putting in more effort in his training and every enemy he encounters along the journey in the Grand Line. The best part was a fight scene with a bunch of assassins from the Baroque work. Everybody is on point in this season, and you all should go check it out if you haven't already.

My Rating: 9/10

I was about to pause my Netflix subscription in favour of Prime, but perhaps not a good idea. Wasn't aware of this series, but seems to be a nice catch! IMDB gives a lower 8 rating as well. Let's see if I just bookmark it, or try this one out. Not spending too much time behind the screen though, unless it is a laptop, but without much media/vids/movies/series, but for work work work 😆
