This blog is a personal journal of all the movies, Tv-Shows, & Games I watch and play during a year which enhances my overall experience. The ratings that I give are fully based on my personal preference and enjoyment at the time of watching and I'm writing spoiler-free reviews. (All HBD earnings are used to get extra Hive Power Delegations!)

I'm someone who enjoys to watch a wide variaty of movies and I certainly have a soft spot for old ones that are sees as masterpieces (~7.8+ Rating on imbd). So I like to include at least a couple each year. The Shop Around The corner is one that I have been wanting to watch for a while and it is perfectly suited during the Christmas Period. While it can be debated that this is a Cristmas Movie or not, it takes place around that time and has the Christmas Spirit. I also got to know it in a list of christmas movies. One of the good things about these older movies is that they usually stay well below 2 hours which at 99 Minutes was also the case for this one. The movie takes place on Budapest as it comes from an Hungarian play named Parfumerieā€ (1937).

The Shop Around The Corner (8.4/10)

This is a Black and White movie from 1940 which stars James Stewart who I have grown to be a fan of after already watching Rear Window, A Wonderful Life, & Rope who all 3 I absolutely loved. I still have to watch Vertigo which is considered one of the best movies of all time though whoch also stars him

He plays a store clerk of the shop called Matuschek and co and the entire movie kind of acts like a play that mainly takes place inside of the shop. He's been working there for 9 years and is considerd by his boss Mr Matuschek as his best employee and the only one who isn't a "yes-man" giving his honest opinions. The part early on about the boss asking him about the cigar boxes really gave me that spark that great movies tend to give me and I instantly knew I was watching something special which never left.

Watching these moves of the 40s or 50s also always reenforces my belief in Bitcoin as it really shows how crazy inflation actually is especially over a longer period of time and it's only getting worse. They are talking in the movie about a couple of dollars as if it's a big amount.

The Plot
In essence, this is somewhat of a love story movie as the main character has been writing to a women on intellectual topics and falling in love without mentioning things like how they look or what they do from work. One day a women comes to apply for a job in the store and gets hired and you guessed it, she is the one he was writing to. From what I read, the more recent movie 'You've Got Mail' with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks is insired by The Shop Around The Corner.

Conclusion
I loved every second of this movie and I can see why it gets and 8/10 score on IMDB as one of the Timeless Christmas Movies. This one made me realise that all the movies that I love the most give me some kind of spark where I know at that moment that I'm watching something good and it feels amazing. This was the first and only old movie that I watched this year. In 2024 that was Rope which I also absolutely loves so I plan to watch more of them in 2026. A very solid 8.4/10 !!

I enjoy watching old movies, but not ones that are this old. When I watch very old movies, I feel like I can't relate to the era and I don't understand them. It's hard to remember right now which is the oldest movie I've watched, but it might be The Godfather. Speaking of that movie, you made a good choice as New Year's is approaching; my wife likes movies with that concept, so I'll recommend giving it a watch :)

I get what you are saying, some of them however do hold up like this one. The godfather is from 1972, You've probably also have seen The Sound Of Music (1965) and maybe The Wizard Of Oz (1939).

I still need to watch the godfather myself, once started it with a friend but it didn't instantly capture us so we moved on and I never went back to it since. The old movie I plan on watching next year is Vertigo (1958), I've only heard good things about that one.

I’m all about old movies! Black & White era!
And my fav TV show is the original Twilight Zone (1059-1964). I was born in early to mid eighties, I’m only 40, but I just love the older stuff!

I'm 43 so around the same age. I haven't watched too many of them yet and they are somewhat of a hit or miss. I didn't really like Sullivan's Travels or Citizen Kane (both from 1941) but absolutely loved 12 Angry Men, It's a wonderful life, the wizard of oz, Rope, The Shop around the corner. So I would say they have a very high ratio and I'm looking forward as there are a ton more I have yet to see.

the original original Twilight Zone always intrigued me but I never watched any those.

Oh man! You gotta watch the original Twilight Zone! Especially first three seasons! About 90 plus episodes. I’d say 85 outta ninety something and pure gold! It was canceled and then came back for season 4 and 5 and frankly lost some of the magic with many of the writers & show runner already finding new gigs after being canceled then brought back 5 months later but first three seasons are golden! !LADY !PIZZA
