Me gusta conocer la historia a través de cine, aunque reconozco que nunca será fiel a los hechos porque para eso están los libros y el cine siempre agregará o quitará parte de esa historia para su conveniencia, lo cierto es que muchas películas tienen rastros históricos o se inspiran en novelas, como lo hizo Phantom, que se estrenó en el 2023 y que la vi el año pasado 2025.

Basada en la novela china llamada Feng Sheng que significa (Sonido del Viento o Sound of the Wind) del 2007 y creada por el autor Mai Jia, no se debe confundir con otras películas que tienen el mismo nombre, para evitar equivocaciones puedes buscarla por el género de acción y thriller. El Phantom que yo vi, es una película de acción y espionaje ambientada en la antigua ciudad de Seúl cuando ocurrió la ocupación japonesa 1933.

El misterio estuvo presente desde el inicio hasta el fin, y en los primeros minutos ni siquiera hubo diálogos todo se centró en las acciones de los personajes, el vestuario elegante y formal de esa época me hacía pensar que todos eran espías ji, ji, ji, con sombreros y trajes hermosos. Las mujeres se veían tan sensuales y misteriosas, que me hacían confundir y me costó descubrir sus verdaderas intenciones.

Los mensajes ocultos en objetos era la forma de comunicarse y nadie sabía quien era quien, como espectadora no sabía quien era el bueno o el malo, y en la primera parte disfrute de tratar de descubrir tanto el mensaje como el espía, en la segunda parte el suspenso le dio paso a la acción y al estrés psicológico y las escenas de sangre y gore.

En cuanto a la ambientación todo se veía oscuro y lleno de misterio, incluso un hotel parecía un castillo y luego un lugar de torturas, los personajes se desarrollaron a medida que la película avanzaba se notaban con más fuerza y carácter, las mujeres comenzaron a tener más protagonismo sobrepasando a los hombres y es cuando me di cuenta que no se trataba de un espía en particular sino en una red donde todos trabajaban en conjunto sin conocerse, lo más importante de la historia es que todos sospechaban de todos, no confiaban en ellos y cada quien hacía su parte para poder sobrevivir y terminar con la misión principal que era no ser atrapados y develar la verdad sobre el fantasma o Phantom.

La violencia fue aumentando mientras la firmeza de cada personaje crecía, sacando los valores de cada uno, como la honestidad, el patriotismo, la amistad, la responsabilidad, todos tenían el carácter para ser espías y cumplir con el objetivo. El final estuvo lleno de dolor y pérdidas junto a sentimientos de valentía y amor, cualidades que resaltan el compromiso de los espías sobrepasando su propia vida.

Tiene sus escenas fuertes por lo que no es para todo público, no me pareció excelente, pero sí me mantuvo entretenida.

I like to learn about history through films, although I recognise that they will never be faithful to the facts because that is what books are for, and films will always add or remove parts of the story for their own convenience. The truth is that many films have historical traces or are inspired by novels, as was the case with Phantom, which was released in 2023 and which I saw last year in 2025.

Based on the 2007 Chinese novel Feng Sheng, which means 'Sound of the Wind', by author Mai Jia, it should not be confused with other films of the same name. To avoid confusion, you can search for it by the action and thriller genre. The Phantom I saw is an action and espionage film set in the old city of Seoul during the Japanese occupation in 1933.

The mystery was present from beginning to end, and in the first few minutes there was not even any dialogue; everything focused on the characters' actions. The elegant and formal costumes of that era made me think that they were all spies, with their beautiful hats and suits. The women looked so sensual and mysterious that they confused me, and I had a hard time figuring out their true intentions.

Hidden messages in objects were the way they communicated, and no one knew who was who. As a viewer, I didn't know who was good or bad, and in the first part, I enjoyed trying to discover both the message and the spy. In the second part, the suspense gave way to action and psychological stress and scenes of blood and gore.

As for the setting, everything looked dark and full of mystery. Even a hotel looked like a castle and then a place of torture. The characters developed as the film progressed, becoming stronger and more distinctive. The women began to take on a more prominent role, surpassing the men, and that's when I realised that it wasn't about one particular spy but a network where everyone worked together without knowing each other. The most important part of the story is that everyone suspected everyone else, they did not trust each other, and each person did their part to survive and complete the main mission, which was to avoid being caught and reveal the truth about the Phantom.

The violence increased as each character's resolve grew, bringing out their values, such as honesty, patriotism, friendship, and responsibility. They all had the character to be spies and fulfil the objective. The ending was full of pain and loss, along with feelings of courage and love, qualities that highlight the spies' commitment beyond their own lives.

It has some strong scenes, so it is not for all audiences. I did not find it excellent, but it did keep me entertained.
