It’s actually crazy how I keep saying I’m done with romance, and then a K-drama like this comes and humbles me completely. From the very first episode, I already knew it would get on my top tier list. And I don’t say that lightly because I’ve watched a lot of good ones. But trust me, this one just hit differently.

Synopsis

IMG_4993.jpeg

The series follows Yoo Me-ri (Jung So-min), a struggling designer whose life takes a sharp turn after her fiance cheats on her and she ends up in serious financial trouble. Just when things couldn’t get worse, she wins a luxurious newlywed townhouse but there’s a catch that only married couples can claim it.

Desperate not to lose the opportunity, she convinces Kim Woo-joo (Choi Woo-shik), a bakery heir and marketing team leader who shares the same name as her ex, to enter a 90-day fake marriage with her.

My Review and Rating

To put it straight to you, this drama is dangerously addictive. From the jump, everything just worked in my favor. The pacing, setup and chemistry. Nothing dragged and I was already emotionally invested in a fake marriage that started looking very real.
Now, the chemistry between Me-ri and Woo-joo had me smiling like a fool.

Now let me talk about the romance as it is solely the reason why I watch K-dramas.

The fake marriage trope is done perfectly. Although it’s cliche, I like the slow shift from them pretending to be couples to caring much about each other. That’s always my chef’s kiss moment. Also, those little eye contact, soft concern, subtle jealousy, are the things that got me.

My admiration for the film was in the details as that’s what made it feel so real despite the unrealistic setup. Honestly, I was swooning.

The Characters too, they carried this HARD. Woo-joo? I loved him. He had that calm, slightly reserved energy but still showed up when it mattered. He’s not overly dramatic, despite having a traumatic experience, and not unnecessarily toxic. Me-ri on the other hand, was too emotional for me to bear, but she’s also human. I had to try to understand why she made some of hee decisions even when they’re outrightly stupid. But together, they balance each other so well.

IMG_5009.jpeg

Now if you ask me why this drama stands out, I’ll say a lot of dramas try to juggle too many things and lose focus, but this one manages to give you romance, family drama, jaw dropping dark twists, a bit of chaos and emotional growth. Even when it stretches itself across multiple storylines, the main relationship still holds everything together and that’s what makes it special to me.

Finally, this drama is one of those ones that reminds you why romance still works when it’s done right. It’s ridiculously engaging and honestly, out of all the perfect dramas I’ve seen, this one might just sit at the top.
