A Geeky Guy's Guide to the Best Movies of 2025
This is the post I have been wanting to write for a while But I had to see a few movies before I thought I could do it justice. I'm not going to do this like a top ten countdown list. Instead I'm just going to share the movies I plan to watch again (or I already have), the ones I was happy I saw once but will not watch again, and the ones that I felt were a waste of my time. There is a specific movie that I do think was the best of the year so I will show that one some love later.

Let's start off with my favorite category... the movies I hated!

I Want My Two Hours Back!
Caught Stealing - This movie had no idea what it was trying to be. Is it a Tarantino ripoff? Is it a comedy? A Tragedy? It apparently just decided to suck.
The Amateur - I am more than willing to suspend my disbelief for a good movie. This was not a good movie.
Havoc- This movie had one 10 minute watchable scene. The rest was hot garbage.

Worth My Time... Once.. and Only Once
Avatar: Fire and Ash - Even though it is the best of the franchise, it is three and a half freaking hours long. I don't have that much time for this.
Happy Gilmore II - fun nostalgia and some quirky characters but once is enough
Tron: Ares - An Awesome music video! (That goes on for about two hours)
One Battle After Another - Great acting and a very unique story was pretty cool but it is way to slow to ever watch again.
Love Hurts - It has Marshawn Lynch and fun action scenes
Novocaine - A clever spin on a regular guy is a superhero movie but not good enough for a second viewing
The Minecraft Movie - I give them credit for not just making a blatant cash grab. There are some scenes I can watch on YouTube if I want a laugh.
Warfare - A brutal look at war. If I am going to see something so heavy, I'll just watch Blackhawk Down again.
G20 - It was simply absurd. Wonderfully absurd. But the novelty wore off after the credits rolled.
Mickey 17 - This would have made an awesome 42 minute twilight zone episode.
K Pop Demon Hunters - It was catching. I admit it.
Captain America: Brave New World - I did not hate it but the effects looked worse than television show.
The Running Man - I have been waiting about 35 years for them to make a movie that more closely mirrored Stephen King's incredible book. They got closer but I still think it could have been better.

I Can't Wait to Watch It Again!!!!!
One of Them Days Companion - If you love the movie Friday (and damn do I love the movie Friday) you will thoroughly enjoy this hilarious movie.
Nobody 2 - I'm a fan of 1970s Wisconsin Dells so I'll watch this action movie again.
Sisu: Road to Revenge - The hero speaks 0 lines of dialgue and kills about 1000 of Stalin's henchmen. I may go watch right now.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery - A great mystery and the best movie about religion I have ever seen.
Superman - I've already watched it three times. It is not the best movie ever but James Gunn knows how to honor comic books and make entertaining movies.
Frankenstein - I could watch this with no sound. It is simply beautiful. It's like having a work of art hanging in your living room.
Predator: Badlands - I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this. The trailers looked horrible but the movie had a tremendous amount of action and some surprising humor.
Predator:Killer of Killers - This is the best Predators content since the original movie. This was truly special.
Thunderbolts* - This is one of my favorite Marvel movies in years. A perfect and entertaining allegory for mental health.
Eenie Meanie - A surprisingly thoughtful action movie with car chases that are actually exciting!
Freaky Tales - I'm a child of the 1980s. This movie was made for me. And the final tale... holy shit!
28 Years Later - Starts off great, gets a little weird and boring, and ends with the biggest WTF moment of any movie last year. I can't wait for the sequel!
Fantastic Four:First Steps - Not the best Marvel movie but set things up nicely moving forward.
Ballerina - John Wick is in it and John wick is in it... oh and so is Ana de Armas.
And now for what I believe is the best movie of 2025... Sinners! This movie is a masterpiece. It is special. Even if it had no supernatural aspects or action, this would have been one of the finest films I have ever seen. The use of music like a character was simply incredible. If you have not seen it... se it!
So... what did I get wrong? Which ones are in the wrong categories?
Having watched almost everything here apart from freaky tales, last year was a little bit underwhelming for me but the predator movies/animation take the crown for me, they were the best and I hope they take the cue and continue churning out predator content, it is so re-watchable, i never get tired of them.
This was definitely a great year to be a predator fan!
This is an Oscar Hive version courtesy of the platform's number one expert, my friend @hanshotfirst I don't usually sit down to watch movies for long periods because housework takes up a lot of my time, and I only have time when I'm with my husband, when we have that fun moment. But I'll definitely choose some to watch with him when we're together again. I'd especially love to see Superman and Fantastic Four since superheroes are a topic we both adore.
For now I can't make judgement on your distribution of the listed movies, into the three categories you placed them, until I see all of them 😊.
now to the ones I have watched, especially in the YES category,SISU: Road to revenge, is a movie I wouldn't get tired of watching again at every slightest opportunity.Pure, unhinged pulp thrill for revenge junkies(John Wick style) 😂.
I may love to see NOVOCAINE again,it is a movie that conveys the moral that risks are worth taking for joy, love, and meaningful experiences, even amid vulnerability and pain.
Eenie Meanie:Weaving electrifies as Edie, blending vulnerability with badass grit—her getaway driving sizzles, emotional breakdowns hit hard, making every scene pop for repeat viewings.
Predator: Badlands delivers intense, Predator-style action throughout its runtime.
I would try to see more before the week runs out, most especially SINNERS since you tagged it a masterpiece.
Thank you 🙏 for updating @hanshotfirst
I have to come back and give my opinion about SINNERS after watching; It is a masterpiece,it keeps you at the edge of your seat through relentless tension, brutal action, and escalating horror. Its mix of vampire sieges, racial violence, and personal betrayals builds non-stop suspense in the juke joint climax.
In my view Sinners (2025) teaches that true freedom and survival demand preserving one's cultural identity and community bonds over temptations of power or assimilation that erode the soul.
Vampirism represents parasitic forces like racism or false saviors promising escape from oppression, but they destroy individuality and heritage.
Characters thrive through ancestral faith, music, and mutual care, while those chasing shortcuts, like immortality or easy revenge, face spiritual ruin.
Great movie, @hanshotfirst! It made my day, and it's worth watching repeatedly. 👍
Captain America I think the same as you, not too crap but not that good either
For me, so and so superman too
I found really crap Jurassic World rebirth
I liked the electric state
Yeah I didn’t even bother watching the Jurassic World movie.
wowow....that sounds like good movie collection. i have watched few of them, and added few to watch out for in coming days after seeing the list. they were on my to do list either on the weekend, or might i start just now. Usually i watch movie in intervals. i cannot watch them in one go. so beginning now is a good idea...starting with SISU.
I have not seen any of those, so I can't say anything one way or the other. The last movie my wife and I watched was "The Order" and it was very good. I would highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed your candid opinion on the movies of 2025. One thing to note is that choosing Sinners as the best movie of the year has increased my interest in watching this movie.
We trust in your greater experience regarding film, friend. From there, the best ones I've chosen to watch are undoubtedly the two Predator movies, as well as John Wick. Action movies are my favorites, and watching Predator will remind me of when I watched them as a child. It's definitely the one I'll watch first, although to give a more valid opinion on the other films in the other categories, I'll have to read a summary about them to see if any are worth investing hours of my time when I could be using it here on Hive.
I like how you honestly shared which movies you didn’t enjoy and which ones were worth watching. Now I’m really curious about Sinners since you called it the best of the year. Thanks for helping us decide what to watch and what to skip.
First of all, greetings, and it's always great to have your recommendations when it comes to movies. It's interesting to know that you've seen them all so you can give a very valid opinion. To be honest, I haven't seen any of them, so I trust your honesty on this subject. I prefer funny movies or comedies.
Instead just ask me which one is missing in the I can't wait to watch it again and I'll tell you avengers end game😅
That's my favorite.
Most detailed movies I've seen so far
For me, amateur should not be in the I want my two hours back.
It's interesting and detailed too
Best mainstream US films.
