A Geeky Guy's Guide to Zootopia 2
The last movie of my personal 2025 movie marathon last week was Zootopia 2. even though my kids are no longer little, I honestly wanted to see this one for my own enjoyment... but it didn't hurt that my college aged daughter was willing to go see it with her old man. This was very special because I saw the first one with her nearly 10 years ago.

I loved the first Zootopia movie. At the time, I was really impressed by the rather through, yet accessible, mystery the writers created.I thought it was incredibly clever how they got little kids to play along with the characters as they tried to solve the mystery of why the animals had become so aggressive and to find the missing mammals. Although it didn't need to be as intelligent as it was, Byron Howard, Rich Moore, and Jared Bush showed respect for their young audience members and decided not to treat them like morons. There were also plenty of laughs and great animation along the way.
Zootopia 2 continues to have really great characters. In addition to the main characters of Judy Hopps (Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (Jason Bateman) two really fun ones were added. I for one have been thrilled with the renaissance of Ke Huy Quan's career. That continues with his portrayal of Gary De'Snake, a very likable and funny new character. But my favorite new character by far is Nibbles Maplestick voiced by Fortune Feimster. Both my daughter and I were very pleasantly surprised that we really enjoyed this new character. While she could have easily been a throwaway character who just fit the role of "the funny Southern one" Nibbles was an essential part of the team and was probably the funniest character in teh movie.

The animation continues to dazzle. It isn't just the main characters and action, the backgrounds are so rich with amazing and often funny little things that I will probably need to watch it again just to take in all the scenes. I think I have become spoiled by just how perfect animation has become. The voices and mouths match so well that I sometimes forget I am watching a cartoon.
Although I laughed a lot, loved the characters, and enjoyed the animation, Zootopia 2 does fall short in one area when compared to the original. The story. While the first one was a very clever mystery, this one is far more simple. The heroes are basically chasing a piece a paper while the villains try to stop them. Don't get me wrong, as far as McGuffin chasing movies go, this one is pretty good... especially for a kids movie. But it was not as much fun as the first. The plot of this movie is 100% just a vehicle for the characters to be cute and crack jokes.

Below the surface, both movies have awesome life lessons. This one was especially poignant right now as it had to do with combating ignorance about beings who are different from you. I loved that it didn't make any group "the bad guys" but rather showed that anyone can be good if they open their heart. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely bad guys. But they are only looking out for their own selfish benefits. It is not an entire group being painted that way.
Even as an adult I could appreciate the art and humor of Zootopia 2... I think all of us can benefit from slipping into the shoes of their younger self every now and again.
There's nothing like enjoying an animated movie with children. In my case, I don't have children, but I do enjoy similar experiences with my nephews. Madagascar is my favorite movie, and children love it too, especially the penguin characters. Two of my nephews live near my house, and sometimes after the movie, they ask me to play penguins with them, while the missing one is imaginary (no one wants to be Cabo 😂)
I agree with you when you say that even as adults, we can enjoy the humor of animated movies like Zootopia 2.
Your nephews are lucky to have you as an uncle!
Perhaps I am the fortunate one, twice over 🥰 Thank you very much for those words 👍
It's not that I'm very young, but I've always loved animated movies because they convey an excellent message, and thanks to you, I'll try to watch "Zootopia 2" to fully appreciate that lesson and try to put it into practice in my daily life, striving to be a better person each day. For example, my favorite animated movie is Cars. I love seeing how Lightning McQueen, with the right people, changes from being arrogant to helping his friends without seeking anything for himself, when at first he only thought about being a famous racer, and then those thoughts become a thing of the past.
Now we're here reunited by a 'kids film' talking about what we love and make us laugh. Lovely.
It was especially emotional for me to go back to the theater with my daughter after 10 years. I'm glad to hear that, like the first movie, the new characters like Gary D'Snake and Nibbles Maplestick, and the animation details caught your attention.
Zootopia 2 delivers moral lessons centered on overcoming prejudice against marginalized groups, like reptiles, and the value of true partnerships through open communication.Great one @hanshotfirst
I had mixed thoughts whether to go see this at the cinema or not, but I am happy to get to read an honest review about it thanks to you!!
I'm glad you got to enjoy the second movie with your daughter. That way, you could enjoy the movie even more. I really liked your post because I haven't seen the movie, and you gave your point of view without spoilers. Reading your post has made me even more curious, so I'll make time to enjoy it at the theater.
Animated movies are always a great venue for passing hidden values that most human acted movies don't.
I simply loved them and I watched Zootopia 2 too so I share your sentiments about the animation and lush background art.
Disney golden movies like this are hard to come across nowadays so we gats cherish the good ones we get.
It is not necessary that we have grown old and we have lost our interest in such things. Rather, I have to say here that no matter what age we are, we should definitely watch such films that contain a lot of humor. It is very good for our health. And doctors also tell us that if we want to have good health, we have to watch artistic movies. So I will also try to watch it.
Good day, my friend. I'll definitely have to see both Zootopia and the second movie to have a good laugh. We trust your recommendations, so I'll buy some things soon so I can enjoy them with my grandchildren. Greetings and many blessings to you. It's good to feel young once in a while, and laughter is good for our bodies.
I haven't seen any of them yet, but I will very soon. Zootopia 2, with its summary, seems excellent for having fun and feeling young again. There are several animated films I really like, and I imagine I'll like this one quite a lot.

I've never seen any of these, but my nieces were really looking forward to seeing he second one when it came out in the theater around the holidays.
I haven't watched the second movie yet but the first was one of my favorites !!
i really liked Zootopia 1, and was looking forward to this... reading you i guess i can give it a watch, movies "2" usually are less good than the "1" and simpler stories might be a thing of all modern movies
Animated movies are also being watched more and more and we see them trending on Netflix as well
I haven't seen this one yet, but a lot of people say it's better than the first.
