Goyas in Valencia - Red Carpet Roll-Out
Once in a while, Valencia gets the spotlight it deserves. And one of these moments happened when the Premios Goya were held at Valencia’s Opera House at the beginning of 2022. The Goyas are like the Oscars of Spain, and have historically been held in Madrid. But recently, the academy has decided to rotate the festivities to locations around the country. And for the 2022 edition, there were great reasons to roll out the red carpet in Valencia.
The 2022 Goyas were part of the Año Berlanga, commemorating the centenary of filmmaker Luis García Berlanga. One of Spain’s most influential filmmakers, Berlanga was Valencian. Although his most famous movies, such as Welcome Mr. Marshall and The Executioner, were not filmed in the city, there’s still something distinctly Valencian about them. They’re absurd, ironic, and mocking in tone… somewhat like Valencia’s favorite festival, Fallas. It was only proper that the Goyas be held in Berlanga’s place of his birth.
The 2022 awards show was huge for Valencia, drawing a lot of national attention to the city, with the help of some A-list celebrities like Penélope Cruz, Pedro Almodóvar and Javier Bardem. Of course, we weren’t on the guest list but we spent some time hanging around the perimeter, and caught the firework displays they shot right at the City of Arts and Sciences.
While we were hovering about the Goyas like the desperate fanboys we absolutely aren’t (really!), we had the chance to take a lot of beautiful pictures of Las Ciencias. We got some during the early morning hours, right before sunset, and throughout the hours in between. (We were not spending all day there with the hopes of bumping into Javier Bardem! Please!) Even if we didn’t get any good paparazzi shots, we did capture some stunning images of Calatrava’s architecture.

Hola, de nada.
Interesting place and interesting photos. Especially the ones with reflections on the water surface. I think they would be successful in the #aroundtheworld competition
