A Geeky Guy's Guide to Nobody
Nobody 2 is set to be released in less than two weeks. Kind of like Happy Gilmore 2, it is a foregone conclusion that I will be seeing that sequel ASAP. I remember loving the original and only had one complaint (not really a complaint but more like a wish). But unlike Happy Gilmore which I have seen about 25 times, I only saw the original Nobody once. Although it left a lasting impression of loving it, I never circled back to watch it again. So I had to make sure to do so before the sequel drops. Well I remedied that problem today and I can say I liked it even mor ethna I remembered.
If you haven't seen Nobody and were wondering if you should, I think I can save you some time and just say it was written by Derek Kolstad who also wrote the John Wick and Ballerina movies. But instead of an ultra serious action movie with Keanu Reeves brooding and killing, you get Saul Goodman... I mean Bob Odenkirk... running around and cracking a few jokes while killing. If that doesn't sound awesome to you then there is nothing I can do for you.
I'm not going to lie. It is as if Kolstad said, "I'd like to make John Wick again but make it less serious". It is basically the same movie. A mysterious deadly killer who is "out of the game" gets pulled back in after a house break in. Instead of a "Boogeyman" who was an elite bad guy, you have a government trained elite "good guy" (kind of).
Just like John Wick, you need a healthy dosage of suspension of disbelief in order to enjoy this one. How do bullets miss our hero so many times? How does he get up after what would have knocked any other human unconscious? How do so many firefights happen with no police ever showing up? Who cares!? It is all a vehicle for over the top action... and I love it!
I am so happy I watched this movie again. Not only did I get to enjoy this all over again, but I had actually forgotten about one of the best, if not the best, part of the movie. I completely forgot that Christopher Lloyd, who played good old Doc Brown in Back to the Future, plays Odenkirk's dad in Nobody. And he just isn't there for comic relief. Thanks to the casting director of Nobody, I got to watch 83 year old Doc Brown running around with multiple shotguns blowing away bad guys. Again if that doesn't sound awesome then there is nothing I can do for you.
But thi smovie isn't just all over the top action. It also uses musically beautifully. Every song seems to fit the scene perfectly. After watching this today, I decided to check out director Ilya Naishuller's other work. Sure enough Naishuller is best known for making music videos. And it showed. Some of the best scenes in this movie have the feel of a music video but in the best possible way.
I would highly recommend watching this again before you see Nobody 2. It's 90 minutes of fun!
I don't know how many times I watched it... but I second your enjoyment of it! I just love it when violence is depicted very raw and choreographed to be both natural and comedic.
And if you like this kind of - "one guy has a bad day and all goes to hell" kind of movies, then boy do I have a great list for you!
I’d love to see your list. Im pretty old so one of the first ones is Falling Down. I guess Death Wish from the 1970s but I’m not a fan of that one.
Sir I would never disrespect a movie buff such as you by suggesting Falling Down!
here are my suggestions:
Revenge for Jolly
Pig
Boy Kills World
Hit-Monkey (animated)
Monkey Man
Mandy
I'll try to remember more, but these are of the top of my head.
I liked Boy Kills World I just wish they had shown wider shots during the hand to hand fight scenes. Hit monkey is one of my favorite marvel shows ever! Monkey man was also great but dang I just wish there were wider shots like boy kills world. I’m going to check out the other ones.
That's great - three down, three to go! and you're in for a treat!
I just love the comedic timing on so many of these fight scenes. I'm glad you also enjoy animations - there are some incredible ones out there.
I'll be looking forward to your thoughts on these.
for action movies fans
NOBODY I don't remember that movie but I will try to watch it and remember but the important thing is to follow its recommendations to have fun while we get out of the daily routine which is very exhausting
There are many movie sequel releases this holiday season. As you can see, we should watch the first ones to enjoy the continuations. It's ideal to be at home with my wife, enjoying lots of laughter and fun, and having some snacks
i have seen nobody without expectin nothing or without saw before the trailer and was awesome :D, i hope see a great movie with nobody 2 :D
This one has been on my list for a while, but I haven't gotten to it yet. That's not surprising with movies, I usually don't have the time to watch the all in one sitting. I have to split them up. I did get a chance to watch The Marvel's the other weekend though. I'll have to make it a point to get this one under my belt.
Luckily this one is quick. Less than 90 minutes.
I liked the marvels. I think they definitely skimped on the budget for that one but I really enjoy the characters so it was fun for me.
Oh yeah, I should be able to handle that. It's those three hour Marvel and Star Wars ones that really get me!
Totally agree! 'Nobody' was such a fun surprise, Bob Odenkirk absolutely nailed the role, and the mix of brutal action with dark humor was spot on. Can’t wait to see what they do in 'Nobody 2'—especially if it amps things up even more. Definitely re-watching before the sequel drops
As much as you are happy to see this film, we are all also thinking about it and will definitely watch it
I think that even though it's a story similar to John Wick, Nobody has a completely different flavor with its own style and light humor. One thing to mention, Christopher Lloyd's action presence in particular was very impressive.
