A Geeky Guy's Guide to Supegirl
I know I have to be super careful about spoilers in this one because basically no one has gone to see it... but if you like superhero movies, you should!

I am a HUGE fan of superhero movies. I used to read comics back in the day, but I read slowly and I have lots of other things taking up my time. So when they started releasing high quality super hero movies back in the late 2000s I was elated! I still am. I go to the theater to see just about every super hero movie that is released. I'm there to be dazzled and entertained so I always try to see them in a high quality Dolby Theater or a REAL IMAX theater (Never LieMax!). Sadly, Supergirl was not available in a Dolby theater as the Minions had taken it over but I still got to see it in the theater.
Here's a hot take... I liked it! In fact, I would see it again. Is it flawed? For sure. Is it the best superhero movie I have ever seen? Not even close. But was I dazzled and entertained? I sure was.

Let's get the flaws out of the way first. The plot is kind of silly. But so was the actual "plot" of John Wick, which is one of the most entertaining movies I have ever seen. If you recall the connection to John Wick's dog in that movie, you will see why I chose that exact example here. Supergirl sometimes feel choppy like they just wanted to stitch the action sequences together. There is a little bit of lack of character development. For example, Supergirl's child sidekick is a freaking badass... but we don't find that out until more than two thirds of the way through the movie. There was ample time to show she had fighting skills... but they never did. And this was not meant to be a big surprise reveal. She was imply well trained by her sword-smith day. But of course she was! Finally, Jason Momoa's Lobo just seems like he was thrown in as sprinkle on top rather than an essential element. I like Lobo so I was happy just to see him and hope we see him again, but if you have no idea who Lobo is... you still don't after watching this movie.

Now onto the good. This movie feels like the little brother of Guardians of The Galaxy. Guardians of the Galaxy happens to be one of my top three super hero movies of all time (it's really hard to say any of them are truly number one, but it is in that ultra elite level).
For me, I have an equation that I apply to superhero movies action + story + characters + humor + heart = entertainment level. If you follow PEMDAS, you know that the order of those terms do not matter (math nerd joke there). A high score in one area can make up for a low score in another. I give Supergirl high scores in action, characters, and humor with a medium score for heart. The story gets a very low score. I also added in a bonus for the soundtrack., which also has an impact on characters.

This movie has plenty of action. In fact, as I said earlier, it seems that the action was the main thing the creative team wanted to get to. Everything else seems like cut scenes between fights. Which was just fine with me. There are plenty of jokes and lighthearted moments and I enjoy them all. No real belly laughs but lots of smiles. As far as characters go, there really is only one character that gets fully developed: Supergirl. And I am here for her! And I don't mean in a "she could live in Banshee Pennsylvania" kind of way. I mean I really like this version of Kara Zor-El. Instead of being the goody two shoes her cousin Superman is, Supergirl is a modern day punk rocker. The soundtrack full of angsty women driven songs, really helped underscore that part of her persona. I can't wait to see her in the new Superman movie!
I realize that this movie is getting trashed, but even those reviews 9which may or may not be biased) never say the movie is boring. Because it is not boring. Turn on your suspension of disbelief and your mind while turning on your willingness to have fun and I think you will enjoy Supergirl. I know I did!
Lots of action and lighthearted moments sounds like a good movie. I'm going to check this out.
I hope it excites and entertains me like Batman did. Batman will always be my number one among DC comic movies, especially the Christian Bale portrayal. Thanks for the review.
Dark Knight is such a great trilogy! Some of my favorite movies of all time!
It was fun indeed. With lots of action! 🤗. Thank you @hanshotfirst
Yehh I'm a fan of superheroes too but I don't like supergirl due to some insta reels that says it's boring but now I will watch bcz of your post,
So see u soon
I'm getting behind on these movies, but may catch them on streaming. I just don't get to the cinema that often. It does seem that some of the female supers have a bit of an attitude going on. They are generally less perfect than some of the original comics would portray them.
I kind of like the more realistic portrayal. Supergirl is in her early 20s. Would I be able to handle my planet blowing up, losing my entire family, moving somewhere new and having super powers when I was in my 20s?
I might watch it just for the soundtrack based on what you just said! I probably will wait for it to be out of the theater though!
It’s won’t stimulate your mind but it is fun!
I think a movie can still be enjoyable even if the story isn't perfect. If it keeps me entertained from beginning to end, that's already a big plus. Your review made me more curious about Supergirl, and I like that you shared both what worked and what didn't.
It might not be a huge spoiler, but saying that about the Supergirl movie makes us think it's going to be really good. Plus, the better the action, the better it is for all superhero movie fans.
I like all three of these movies, Superman, Spider-Man, and Batman, so I'll definitely watch this one too. We're seeing a lot of good things in your reviews, so we'll definitely watch them. The movies you recommend are much better and we don't have to search for them. We watch only what you recommend,
In these kinds of movies, there needs to be time for everything: action, variety, jokes, and not-so-good moments, but the important thing is that it entertains us a lot and that we get an excellent movie from the DC superhero universe.
The truth is, it was released recently and perhaps many haven't seen it yet, myself included, since going to the cinema isn't one of my greatest passions in life. But perhaps, given the good reviews, I'll be able to enjoy it one of these days and share a different experience than what I'm used to.
A major flop (to say the least) for the new DCU universe.
It sure was. But I don't understand why. It was so much better than the Justice League stuff.
That is a question only James Gunn can answer, haha!
The more action there is, the more suspense there is, the more famous the film will be. And this series of yours is just as famous. Both children and adults watch it. Earlier, you used to post every day, so you used to get a lot of help and we also used to spend our weekends well. Now, you have started posting less
