A Geeky Guy Retcons the Emmy Awards

Last night the 77th Prime Time Emmy Awards were held. Although I can no longer stand to watch award shows, I was very interested in this year's results. With streaming services pumping out some very high quality shows, I still have the naive belief that some of them will earn the recognition they deserve.

Best Drama winner: The Pitt

Geeky Guy's winner: The Pitt (Although I was thrilled that Andor was nominated as it is one of the best spy/uprising shows I have ever seen.)

As soon as I watched the last frame of The Pitt, I turned to my wife and said "That has to win the Emmy". It was basically flawless.

Best Comedy Series winner: The Studio

Geeky Guy's Winner: Abbott Elementary

Although I enjoyed The Studio, I would have chosen Abbott Elementary (the best teacher show ever), Only Murders in the Building, or What We Do In The Shadows.

Best Limited Anthology Series winner: Adolescence

Geeky Guy's winner: The Penguin

This one is heavily biased as I could not watch Adolescence due to the content. I find things with kids to be too much for me to handle. My wife said it was an incredibly well made show though. I was blown away by the Penguin though. It is simply a great mob drama.

Best Reality Show winner Traitors

Geeky Guy's winner: Survivor (of course)

Although I do plan on watching Traitors and have heard good things, until Survivor is off the air, it will always have my vote.

Best Acting categories (I don't really care about these very much so I'll just list the winners... although Colin Farrell as the Penguin was amazing).

Best Actor: Noah Wiley

Best Actress: Britt Lower

Best Supporting Actor: Trammell Tillman

Best Supporting Actress: Katherine LaNassa (Ok I lied. I REALLY cared about this one. LaNassa plays the best character on The Pitt and did a phenomenal job. I have not seen The White Lotus but I can't imagine anyone was better that LaNassa).

Katherine LaNassa stole every scene she was in. Her portrayal as Head Nurse and HERO Dana Evans is one of the best performances I have ever seen.

Best Actor in a Comedy Winner: Seth Rogen

Best Actress in a Comedy winner: Jean Smart (I lied about this one too and wish Quinta Brunson had won. I liked Hacks but Brunson is sensational in Abbott)

Best Supporting Actress in a comedy winner: Hannah Einbinder (I really loved her in hacks but I do wish Sheryl Lee Ralph had won)

Best Supporting Actor in a comedy winner: Jeff Hiller

Best Writing for a Limited Series: Dan Gilroy (Andor)

Geeky Guy's Winner: This one is the toughest one. Andor was incredible! But so was the Pitt. I have a feeling the voters may have purposely given The Pitt best drama and Andor bets writing so they could both win something.

Best Writing for a Comedy Series winner: Seth Rogen

Geeky Guy's Winner: Quinta Brunson

In the end, it seems the Emmy Awards are much better at nominating and choosing deserving winners when compared to the Oscars. While the Oscars seem to thumb their nose at anything popular, the Emmy Awards still seem to understand that sometimes the audience is right and they choose to spend time on high quality content. The list of nominees included many of my favorite shows: The Pitt, Andor, Abbott Elementary, The Penguin, Hacks, The Studio, The Last of Us and Only Murder in the Buildings. Even the ones I don't watch or did not like I have heard good things about or watched a few episodes, decided they were high quality but they just weren't for me. It definitely looks like I need to watch the White Lotus.

It is absolutely true that now our country's industry is also working hard and bringing some such dramas, which give us a lot of lessons about what things we have to think about in our future life and what things we have to collect in our life. I have not seen these dramas, but as you have said, this drama has won, so I will try to watch them in the future. In this way, I definitely watch whatever country's show is being held, whether it is from India or our country.

There are many series I'm not familiar with, and to be honest, award ceremonies like the Emmys aren't among my favorite programs. The important thing is to trust their perception and watch as many of them as possible to form my own opinion. I also know I'll find something I really like and enjoy it to the fullest.

My wife and I also like Abbott Elementary. It always gives us a few ah I have been there moments to laugh about. We tried watching that English Teacher show on FX or whatever it was, but we just couldn't handle it. I liked Boston Public when it was on, it was over the top at the time, but now it's probably more accurate than it used to be given what I remember of some of the plots. My wife watched Adolescence over the summer and she wasn't that impressed with it. Given her job I figured she knows better than anyone, so I was fine skipping it.

Abbott is definitely the best teaching show I've ever seen. I love that they use real kids from the neighborhood in it.

I agree with your thoughts on The Pitt and Andor. The Emmys are very much in tune with audience preferences in a way that the Oscars don't. Your views on Abbott Elementary and The Penguin are also very reasonable. I think the Emmys have given quality shows the respect they deserve. Thank you for discussing such an important topic.

I liked reading your Emmy picks. I was also happy to see shows like The Pitt and Abbott Elementary get recognition. Totally agree that the Emmys usually do a better job than the Oscars when it comes to quality shows.

Whenever the producer makes a show with hard work, the viewers also like the suspense and other things in it a lot more. I haven't seen this show before, but now I'm getting a lot more interested in watching it

White Lotus is a series I imagine must be very good for anyone who wants to watch it. Of course, in the near future, the streaming companies will be Emmy Award winners.
