The Lincoln Lawyer (My appreciation) [En/Es]

Happy evening dear friends of Hive. It is a pleasure for me to greet you and wish you with all my heart that you are well. Today I want to share with you my appreciation of this movie that clearly describes the corruption and ambition that prevails in the world in general, but in this case especially in the lawyers' world. I hope you can read it.

Feliz noche queridos amigos de Hive. Es para mi un placer saludarles y desearles con todo mi corazón que se encuentren bien. Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes mi apreciación sobre esta película que nos describe claramente la corrupción y la ambición que predomina en el mundo en general, pero en este caso, especialmente en el de los abogados. Espero que puedan leerla.

The Lincoln Lawyer is a movie that I started watching by chance and I was hooked by the plot. No one recommended it to me nor was I looking for it because I simply didn't know it existed, I was just flipping through the channels to see if I could find something good on TV and I was starting this movie. With the first five minutes that I saw, it caught my attention and I ventured to watch it and I assure you that it was worth it.

The main character is a lawyer who has contacts everywhere and tends to get his way at all times. He is a bold and calculating man, apparently he had the world at his feet until he met someone more calculating than him and put him in check. Throughout the film you can see how true justice is conspicuous by its absence. All success depends on how many contacts you have, how much money you have to buy people to achieve your goals.

The Lincoln Lawyer es una película que comencé a ver por casualidad y me quedé enganchada con la trama. Nadie me la recomendó ni tampoco la estaba buscando porque sencillamente no sabía que existía, simplemente estaba con el control pasando los canales a ver si encontraba algo bueno en la televisión y estaba comenzando esta película. Con los primeros cinco minutos que vi, me llamó mucho la atención y me aventuré a verla y les aseguro que valió la pena.

El protagonista es un abogado que tiene contactos por doquier y suele salirse con la suya en todo momento. Es un hombre audaz y calculador, al parecer tenia el mundo a sus pies hasta que se encontró con alguien más calculador que él y lo puso en Jaque. A lo largo de la película se puede ver cómo la auténtica justicia brilla por su ausencia. Todo éxito depende de los contactos que se tenga, de cuánto dinero se poseé para comprar a las personas y así lograr un cometido.

I could also perceive the ambition that can lead someone to do the wrong things just to be in good standing with a sector that is later used as a wild card to get out of difficult situations. Despite all the corruption-filled environment, a certain degree of humanity can be noted. However, just because a person does something good for someone does not give him license to carry out unjust acts. Unfortunately, the world is like this and more and more people are silencing their conscience by doing good deeds in order to justify wrong ones.

For me it is very sad to know that the definition that society gives to the word "Justice" remains only in letters. I have even asked myself to what extent this has affected me. I want to be a blameless person, that is what my parents have instilled in me, however, I cannot deny that in some situations like standing in line at a bank, in a hospital, I have passed because I know someone who works there and I have skipped the process that other people go through. So, I don't know if I'm the most appropriate to talk about justice in its full sense. What I do know is that I want to be a person of values and principles who respects the guidelines.

This is not so easy, but I must continue to make an effort because the problem with skipping certain uncomfortable procedures because of knowing people with certain authority is that this becomes a habit to such an extent that it sears the conscience and can lead to acts with less justice.

También pude percibir la ambición que puede llegar a alguien a hacer cosas incorrectas sólo para estar bien con un sector al que más tarde se utiliza como un comodín para salir airoso de situaciones difíciles. A pesar de todo el entorno lleno de corrupción, se puede notar cierto grado de humanidad. No obstante, el que una persona haga algo bueno por alguien no le da licencia para llevar a cabo actos injustos. Lamentablemente, el mudo está así y cada vez hay más personas que acallan su conciencia realizando buenos actos para justificar los incorrectos.

Para mí es muy triste saber que la definición que la sociedad la da a la palabra "Justicia" se queda solo en letras. Incluso me he preguntado hasta que punto esto me ha afectado a mi. Yo quiero ser una persona intachable, eso es lo que mis padres me han inculcado, sin embargo, no puedo negar que en algunas situaciones como hacer una cola en un banco, en un hospital, he pasado porque conozco a alguien que trabaja allí y he omitido el proceso que las demás personas llevan a cabo. Así que, no sé si soy la más apropiada para hablar de justicia en su pleno sentido. Lo que si sé es que quiero ser una persona de valores y principios que respeta las directrices.

Esto no es tan fácil, pero debo seguir esforzándome porque el problema de saltarse ciertos procedimientos incómodos por conocer a personas con cierta autoridad es que esto va haciéndose un hábito hasta tal punto que se cauteriza la conciencia y se puede avanzar a actos con menos justicia.

This film also addresses the guilt one can feel for being negligent at times. Of course, we do not always have the same enthusiasm to do things with ethics and passion, however, when it comes to sensitive cases this would significantly harm someone. Taking this back to my work, I thought of many situations where I need to improve. I am a preschool teacher, it depends a lot on me that children like to go to school and want to learn. Sometimes I have succeeded, but when it is not so easy, do I really make every effort to make the child want to go to school or do I simply excuse myself by stating that it is the parents' responsibility?

Of course the parents have a great responsibility in this matter but I as a teacher also have a great responsibility, not to the degree that the parents do but to the limit that as a teacher I must interfere. The question is, am I doing it? I hope I can do my job in the best way, not only when it is easy, but when it is complicated. It is in complicated moments that you measure how professional someone is.

Obviously, I won't always achieve the goal, but that's either because I didn't give it my all or because I didn't give it my all. The person I want to be is the one who takes his job to heart and passionately does everything he can to help.

Esta película también aborda la culpabilidad que se puede llegar a sentir por ser negligentes en algunos momentos. Claro está, no siempre tenemos el mismo entusiasmo para realizar las cosas con ética y pasión, no obstante, cuando se trata de casos delicados esto perjudicaría significativamente a alguien. Llevando esto a mi trabajo pensé en muchas situaciones en las que debo mejorar. Yo soy maestra de preescolar, de mi depende en gran manera que a los niños les guste ir a la escuela y que deseen aprender. En ocasiones he logrado el cometido, pero cuando no es tan fácil ¿Realmente hago todo el esfuerzo posible por lograr que el niño desee ir al colegio o sencillamente me excuso afirmando que eso es responsabilidad de sus padres?.

Por supuesto que los padres tienen una gran responsabilidad en este asunto pero yo como maestra también la tengo, no al grado como los padres pero si hasta el límite en que como maestra debo inmiscuirme. La pregunta es ¿Lo estoy haciendo?. Espero poder hacer mi trabajo de la mejor manera, no solo cuando resulte fácil, sino cuando sea complicado. En momentos complicados es que se mide qué tan profesional es alguien.

Obviamente, no siempre se va lograr el objetivo pero que nos sea o porque no di todo de mí. La persona que deseo ser es la que se toma a pecho su trabajo y con pasión hace todo lo que puede para ayudar.

I dream of a world in which all members of society are governed by a pattern of behavior that enhances the principles and values that have been lost. A society in which there are neither victims nor victimizers, I feel that it is easy to do the right thing when everyone attends to their business as it should be. When each competent body does things correctly there is no room for corruption. And when I speak of corruption, I am not only referring to that which has to do with money, but also to that in which we participate tacitly, from within ourselves, from our thoughts and feelings.

A utopia many would say, but I know that it is possible for the world to function correctly in the right hands and we have already seen for many years that human hands only lead us to failure. At this point in life, I am convinced that only the Almighty God is the one who can cleanse humanity of so much corruption. This is my personal opinion.

Sueño con un mundo en el que todos los miembros de la sociedad se rijan por un patrón de conducta que realce los principios y valores que se han perdido. Una sociedad en el que no hayan víctimas ni victimarios, siento que es fácil hacer lo correcto cuando cada quien atiende sus asuntos como debe ser. Cuando cada organismo competente realiza las cosas correctamente no hay cabida para la corrupción. Y cuando hablo de corrupción no solo me refiero a aquella que tiene que ver con dinero sino también a aquella en la que participamos tácitamente, desde nuestro interior, desde nuestros pensamientos y sentimientos.

Una utopía dirían muchos, pero sé que es posible que el mundo funcione correctamente en las manos adecuadas y ya hemos visto por largos años que las manos humanas solo nos llevan al fracaso. En este punto de la vida, estoy convencida que solo el Dios Todopoderoso es quien puede limpiar la humanidad de tanta corrupción. Es mi opinión personal.

As you may have noticed I applied the movie to myself, true, I was very attentive to each of the acts carried out by the protagonist and I wondered what I would have done in his place. The truth is that I questioned him in many aspects and justified him in others.

What I was absolutely convinced of is that no one has the world at his feet, no matter how much intelligence a person has, how many people in authority he knows or how many people he has bought, the truth is that at any moment the world can come down on you and what will help you are the good deeds you have done in the past. Therefore, let us strive to prevent the virus of corruption from infecting us and if we are already impregnated with it, let us do everything possible to detoxify ourselves in time because the negative consequences will not be long in coming.

Como han podido notar me apliqué la película para mí misma, cierto, estuve muy atenta a cada uno de los actos que llevaba a cabo el protagonista y me preguntaba qué hubiera hecho yo en su lugar. La verdad es que lo cuestioné en muchos aspectos y lo justifiqué en otros.

De lo que si quedé absolutamente convencida es que nadie tiene el mundo a sus pies, no importa cuánta inteligencia tenga una persona, cuántas personas de autoridad conozca o a cuántas personas haya comprado, lo cierto es que en cualquier momento el mundo se te puede venir abajo y lo que te ayudará son las buenas acciones que hayas realizado en el pasado. Por lo tanto, esforcémonos por impedir que se nos contagie el virus de la corrupción y si ya estamos impregnados de este, hagamos todo lo posible por desintoxicarnos a tiempo porque las consecuencias negativas no tardarán en llegar.
