Another Self: the Turkish series that can bring you closer to your own history

This time I bring you a series that I loved, it made me think a lot and the truth is that I never imagined that a production with this theme would reach the Netflix screen, platform on which it is available and that again managed to capture me, hehe.

Another Self is a series originating from Turkey in which its protagonists are three friends, one of whom has cancer. When she thinks that everything has improved and that the treatment has worked, Ada, her best friend, informs Sevgi that the disease has returned.

Hola mis queridos amigos de la comunidad de Movies & TV Shows, espero que estén pasando un día hermoso! En esta ocasión les traigo una serie que me encantó, me hizo pensar muchísimo y la verdad es que jamás me imaginé que una producción con esta temática fuese a llegar a la pantalla de Netflix, plataforma en la que está disponible y que otra vez logró capturarme, jeje.

Mi Otra Yo es una serie originaria de Turquía en la que sus protagonistas son tres amigas, una de las cuales tiene cáncer. Cuando cree que todo ha mejorado y que el tratamiento ha dado resultado, Ada, su mejor amiga, le comunica a Sevgi que la enfermedad ha regresado.

Sevgi decides to fight her last battle against death in a particular way, since her life is already at stake and there is no guarantee that the methods of Western medicine will save her vitality. Therefore, he decides to travel to a nearby village where a man is in charge of performing constellations, a practice that can be done individually or in a group, where one "relives" in some way, events that one's energy has gone through, which can be related to one's own person or to other members of the family.

These events of our family history, as the series shows, could influence our current state, affecting not only health, but also other areas of life, such as couples, relationship with parents or children, work, relationship with money, among others.

Sevgi decide librar su última batalla contra la muerte de una manera particular, pues su vida ya está puesta en juego y nada le garantiza que los métodos de la medicina occidental vayan a salvar su vitalidad. Por ello decide viajar a un pueblo cercano en donde un hombre se encarga de realizar constelaciones, una práctica que se puede hacer de manera individual o grupal en donde se “reviven” de alguna manera, eventos por los que ha pasado la energía de uno, que pueden estar relacionados con la propia persona o con otros miembros de la familia.

Estos hechos de la historia de nuestra familia, según muestra la serie, podrían influir en nuestro estado actual, afectando no solo la salud, sino también otros ámbitos de la vida, como las parejas, la relación con los padres o con los hijos, el aspecto laboral, la relación con el dinero, entre otros.

When Sevgi makes this decision, Ada intervenes, because as a doctor she considers that the best thing is for her friend to be hospitalized, but Leila, the other friend, decides to support Sevgi in whatever she decides for her life, so she travels with her. Finally, they convince Ada and the three of them end up in this center where Zaman is in charge of constellation.

Many issues begin to come to light through this practice, especially linked to ancestors of the three girls. Sevgi is cured of cancer and Leila and Ada begin to solve other issues in their lives, but this is not the end of the story, but rather the beginning.

Cuando Sevgi toma esta decisión, Ada se interpone, pues como médica considera que lo mejor es que su amiga sea internada, pero Leila, la otra amiga, decide apoyar a Sevgi en lo que sea que decida para su vida, por lo que viaja con ella. Finalmente, convencen a Ada y las tres terminan en este centro en donde Zaman se encarga de constelar.

Muchas cuestiones empiezan a salir a la luz mediante esta práctica, en especial vinculadas con ancestros de las tres chicas. Sevgi se cura del cáncer y Leila y Ada empiezan a solucionar otros temas de su vida, pero aquí no termina la cosa, sino que más bien empieza.

Other problems begin to surface in the lives of these two after having removed past energies, problems that were stagnating them in their lives and that were covered up, hidden somewhere in their souls.

In parallel and very much related to this, Leyla enters into a conflict over her husband, who is on the run from the police because he was a big businessman who apparently had made some dirty moves; and Ada meets Toprak, her great love; the thing is that she is married to a great man and friend, who is waiting for her in Istanbul.

Sevgi decide quedarse a vivir cerca de donde Zaman realiza las constelaciones con su mamá, por lo que tanto Ada como Leila deciden pasar una temporada allí. Otros problemas empiezan a aflorar en la vida de estas dos últimas tras haber removido energías pasadas, problemas que estaban estancándolas en su vida y que se encontraban tapados, escondidos en alguna parte de su alma.

Paralelamente y muy en relación con esto, Leyla entra en un conflicto por su esposo, quien está escapando de la policía porque era un gran empresario que aparentemente había realizado algunas jugadas sucias; y Ada se encuentra con Toprak, su gran amor; el tema es que ella está casada con un gran hombre y amigo, que la espera en Estambul.

I found the TV show wonderful, as I was saying, the fact that they deal with the subject of alternative therapies seems excellent to me. I think that in some way several people who watch this production will feel identified with something, since it addresses issues such as the mother-daughter relationship, abandoned sons, betrayed families, murders, and this does not have to do with the present of the main characters, but sometimes it is even about family members that they have not gotten to know, but somehow they have transferred to their energy, that anguish, unresolved issues and so on.

Besides, it is not only about constellations and problems, but three love stories of different nature are presented, where the personalities of the women and men are very different and marked; and it is very nice how it is approached.

The only thing is that I'm used to see more realistic stories about sexuality, such as some of the characters being bisexual, or talking about poly love, and so on, which I enjoy a lot, and in this sense, "My Other Self" seemed too conservative to me. Still, it's a very nice story.

La serie me pareció maravillosa, como les comentaba, el hecho de que aborden el tema de terapias alternativas me parece excelente. Creo que de alguna manera varias personas que vean esta producción se sentirán identificadas con algo, ya que se abordan temas como la relación madre-hija, hijos abandonados, familias traicionadas, asesinatos, y esto no tiene que ver con el presente de los personajes principales, sino que en ocasiones incluso se trata de miembros de la familia que ellas no han alcanzado a conocer, pero que de alguna manera han trasladado a su energía, aquella angustia, tema no resuelto y demás.

Además, no es que solamente se hable de las constelaciones y las problemáticas, sino que se presentan tres historias de amor de diferente naturaleza, en donde las personalidades de las mujeres y de los hombres son bien diferentes y marcadas; y es muy bonito cómo se aborda.

Lo único que me he acostumbrado a ver historias más realistas en cuanto a la sexualidad, del tipo que alguno de los personajes es bisexual, o se habla de poli amor, y cuestiones por el estilo, lo cual disfruto mucho, y en este sentido, “Mi Otra Yo” me pareció demasiado conservadora. Igualmente, es muy linda la historia.

I find it very interesting to watch. I really like these themes, but yes, there may be people who don't receive the production well because it can generate a lot of doubts in relation to the practice of constellations, whether this can really heal such a serious illness, how this can influence people who are going through a challenging and difficult situation. But well, from my point of view is too much promoted Western medicine and its therapies, so I think it is not only good, but also necessary to begin to share the importance of opening up to other alternatives to address diseases of the body or mind.

Me parece muy interesante para ver. A mi me gustan mucho estas temáticas, pero sí que puede haber personas que no reciban bien la producción porque puede generar bastantes dudas en relación a la práctica de las constelaciones, de si esto puede sanar en verdad una enfermedad tan grave, de cómo puede influir esto en personas que atraviesan una situación desafiante y difícil. Pero bueno, desde mi punto de vista está demasiado promocionada la medicina occidental y sus terapias, por lo que creo que no solo es bueno, sino también necesario empezar a compartir la importancia de abrirse a otro tipo de alternativas para abordar enfermedades del cuerpo o de la mente.
