Hi friends, it's been a pretty eventful week, I've watched a lot of interesting movies and got into a new project, and this weekend I decided to participate in the CineTV team contest, the more so I'm very interested in animated movies and I often watch anime or full-length animated films.

At first, I wanted to stop at one of the films of the great storyteller Miyazaki, because no one can compare to his talent for exciting stories and unusual characters, however, my favorite for almost 30 years now is Nightmare Before Christmas by Tim Burton and Henry Selick.

I've said it many times - I like heavy music, horror movies and dark aesthetics, so as a high school student and seeing a short teaser of this cartoon on MTV I was very intrigued. First of all - creepy puppet animation. Second - a lot of creepy but very funny characters. And thirdly, the idea that Halloween and Christmas would switch places was extremely amusing.

It was not easy to find a VHS with this film, but once I got it I was very happy, and the viewing exceeded all expectations. Burton is terrific at working with gothic aesthetics, and easily makes creepy characters interesting and sympathetic, so the love story of Jack Skellington and Sally, as creepy as they are, was a real delight to me.

But the musical acts, written by Danny Elfman, were a far greater joy. Beautiful music, and songs that gave me goosebumps. I still listen to "Jack's Lament" with great pleasure, and the image of Jack in front of the full moon is forever imprinted in my heart and memory.

Every now and then, on Halloween, I revisit the story, and the thing is, even knowing most of the lines by heart, I'm not bored with the movie, and Oogie Boogie still seems to be one of the best animated villains, surpassing his Disney counterparts by an order of magnitude.

Definitely Nightmare Before Christmas is one story I'm on the same page with :)

P.S. If it weren't for Die Hard, I'd call this tale not only my favorite animated movie, but also the best Christmas movie :)
