3 Massively Underrated Films

An Innocent Man

Ah, whenever I see this film I always think of the needles scene when he says,

"Now you be cool, and everthan be eveythan"

My mother loved good old Tom Sellek when I was growing up and I was subjected to a lot of his titles; some of them were good, and some terrible. This one though, this one always stuck with me because it was such a really good storyline and really well acted. I also have no idea how I was allowed to see this film at only 10 years old, but hey, things were different back then and the world was a lot more violent.

Jimmie Reinwood was a high flying man in the aeronautics industry when he is set up and put into prison for something he didn't do. Basically two corrupt cops got a tip off about a drug den but they got the wrong address and planted drugs all over his house to skirt their mistake.

A very, very well done film with almost no recognition! A must watch in my opinion.

Shutter Island

Definitely one of the massive greats in my books - but not widely remembered. I mean sure, this will more than likely be the biggest film to hit this list, but wow, it's so underrated it's unreal. To me this one should be up there with the likes of the Shawshank Redemption, an international best seller.

Teddy Daniels is a police agent come to investigate the disappearance of a prisoner in a psychiatric institution which is on an island. The institution is for the most violent individuals that have commited murder and other heinous crimes, and Teddy seems to have his work cut out for him.

All is not what it seems in Shutter Island because patients are acting strange, as are staff, and the film feels like it takes on an almost supernatural feel to it. It can get quite creepy at times.

This is definitely one of my favourites and one that I can sit down and watch again and again.

The Butterfly Effect

This film hits hard. I know I wrote about it a few weeks ago, but damn this film isn't like the normal shoot em up, or sci fi saving the universe like I usually watch, this film was probably one of the first adult-themed non action films I ever saw, and damn, it punches hard.

I went to the cinema to see this one with my friends, and I'd never heard of it, never seen a trailer either, but I was surprised as to how rooted to my seat and engaged I was with the entire film. I was impressed with not only the film, but myself too.

The storyline? Well, Evan Treborn was a young man that experienced blackouts, like his dad. Only one problem, and that was his dad was in psychiatric hospital and he wasn't around to help him with the obvious condition that was passed down to him.

When evan is older, he finds out that he is able to shift back in time to when the blackouts happened and change the future.

Oh it's on now. Because Evan had a particularly bad childhood.
