Colombiana
Every teen has that one film that makes them want to venture into a life of assassination, or crime, or some form of killing, where the bad guys are constantly defeated, and with our brilliant wits and even more amazing fighting skills, we escape unscathed. For some, it was Kill Bill, but for me and my sisters at the time, it was the film Colombiana. Hands down, I may have seen this film a total of two dozen times since it was released, but maybe this is just me exaggerating, lol.
Colombiana (2011)
In 1992, Don Luis sends his enforcer and a gang of armed men to kill Fabio and his family for trying to leave his drug ring. Fabio gives his daughter, Cataleya, a memory card containing Don Luis’ criminal dealings, the address of her Uncle Emilio, who is in Chicago, and her mother’s orchid necklace. Shortly after, Fabio and his wife are killed.
Cataleya runs to seek refuge in the U.S Embassy. She’s about to be put into foster care, but she manages to track her Uncle Emilio and begs him to teach her how to become a killer. Fifteen years later, Cataleya has become just that, but her motive is simple: kill everyone involved till she gets to Don Luis. With at least 20 people in the mix, what are her chances?
Like I said, I’ve seen this film at least fifteen times, and that night where she spent in jail for drunk driving and all the things she did on the roof, going on to pretend she was in the cell all the while, will always be my best scene in the film. A close second would be seeing her plans for revenge coming to fruition. I’m all for girl power and doing the undoable, so as a teenager and even many years afterwards, this meant a lot to me. Obviously, there was her motive of becoming a killer, which I lacked, thankfully, lol.
Then, there was the performance of Zoe Saldana, who stole the show. Before my first time seeing this film, I hadn’t seen her in any production, and her acting was perfect. Nothing too over the top. A star from start to finish. Watching the mental development of this girl and seeing her evolve with so much emotional intelligence is one of the very many things that make this film one of my best watches of all time.
I honestly do wish there were a sequel to it. I wonder why they never thought of that. But I guess that may be good, seeing the film industry’s tendency to botch sequels up. Heard Zoe Saldana performed just as amazingly in the series, Special Ops: Lioness, but I haven’t seen that one yet. A truly beautiful tale that makes its mark as an enjoyable revenge action thriller. What are your thoughts? Seen the film, Colombiana?

I've watched Colombiana a couple of times as well, and it remains intriguing Every time, I get that wanting to be a female assassin, Lol the thought also crossed my mind at that time, it was satisfying to see her set revenge after so many years, I would love if it had a sequel as well, to see how she reunited with her boyfriend and if she ever had the chance to lead a normal family life and rather use her skill to work for the government.. I'm already thinking far😂😂 That's what a good movie does
I remember watching this movie, for some reason couldn't remember most of the plot, just that it was enjoyable. Thanks for bringing it back to remembrance.
I share the same feeling as you, this movie itself is great and has the secret effect that keeps you glued to the screen without wanting to blink because it is so entertaining and I agree with what you say with Zoe's performance she is a very complete artist and there she proved it.
