Have you seen passengers yet?

I'll let you into a secret. I'm a bit of a Jennifer Lawrence fan. She caught my eye back in 2012 when the first film launched. I was amazed by the storyline of a humble village girl out on one of the poorest districts sticking it to the rich city folks. She acted that role fantastically, and from there, I became a one of her fans.

I'm quite looking forward to watching "No Hard Feelings." but that's another story.

Passengers moved me deeply. I'll say this from the start. I'm quite the sci-fi buff and I'm very used to the quiet and lonely sci-fi film that passengers portrayed. The Martian springs to mind.

We start off on a quiet colony ship as thousands of people are being transported to another planet to make a new life for themselves -- there's only one snag though, it will take more than a lifetime to get there. This is why everyone on the ship sleeps in stasis and will awaken in around 80 years.

We start off with our young hopeful. Jim Preston, who's stasis pod malfunctions in a meteor storm and wakes him up around 80 years too early. This means that if he can't get his pod to work again then he'll live out the rest of his life on the ship without ever making it to the planet.

He tries desperately, from trying to fix his pod, to breaking into the crew-quarters to wake someone up to help him. Sadly, to no avail.

Over the coming months Jim becomes incredibly lonely, desperately seeking the company of another human; anyone but all he has for company is a robot bartender and a near unlimited supply of food and drink. We are presented with several scenes of Jim being very drunk, sad and depressed. I could see how that could happen knowing that humans are a communal species and aren't meant to live alone.

Then one fateful day he accidently stumbles over Aurora's pod, a young beautiful girl who he would just love to have as company. Jim wrestles with his conscience for several days until he breaks and makes Auroras pod malfunction so that she awakens in the ship with him.

The story explores a lot of themes. If you can ignore that they were both alone on a big spaceship we are taken on an epic story about friendship, love, heartbreak, betrayal, loyalty, and duty. I'm not joking, this film is an absolute emotional rollercoaster. And I loved it. Be prepared to crank out the big feel feels though!

It's not really a space story, but more so a story about hope for humanity and partnership -- how two people can come together from completely different backgrounds and try to make things work. It's a tale of no matter where we are born, the people we partner up with are totally circumstantial. There's lots to explore if you look into it just a little deeper.

That being said it's definitely one of my better films I've seen over the last 10 years. I came out of this one with my head spinning from taking my emotions in the washing machine and tumble dryer. It cleaned me out. I needed a rest after this film.

Definitely worth a watch if you like exploring the connections that we make for the reasons that we do!
