Is there a need to hide evil or fear? When it comes to watching a movie, my answer to this question is definitely yes. Because I think the story needs to keep its mystery up to a certain point, so that you watch the movie more carefully and you don't even notice the time that passes quickly while you are trying to understand it.

When the story draws you in, triggered by the ever-renewing sense of curiosity, you try to anticipate the next scene and realize that your viewing pleasure is multiplied when you are turned inside out in the next scenes. For me, these moments are just one of the features that make the movie successful.

But what I am going to say from now on is that I have watched a movie that will contradict what I have said so far. The Argentinian film When Evil Lurks manages to make you feel fear in a different way by revealing its story clearly from the very beginning. Starting from the first scene, there is no mystery in the movie and it has a structure that slowly injects fear into the audience by constantly increasing it, which I think distinguishes it from its genre.

The story starts with two brothers living in a garden hut in a small village and the sound of a gunshot they hear in the middle of the night on their own land, and spreads to a big town, leaving everyone around them in fear. I can summarize the story in its simplest form as "the devil possessing people and taking up residence in their bodies" but be sure of this; it proceeds very differently from the productions of the "possessed" genre you have watched so far.

I would say that the aim and expectation of horror movies is to trigger many emotions in people at the same time and start the adrenaline flow. This is true both for the creators of the movie and for us, the movie consumers (viewers). Sometimes the horror is brought out by a ghost appearing in the middle of the night, sometimes by the brutality of serial killers who murder their victims in the most brutal ways. Sometimes it is a scream, sometimes it is the visualization of blood flowing from the body.

In both cases, or diversified with other examples, if you feel the fear in the movie you are watching, it is proof that the movie is successful, even with its flaws. You can't succeed by putting too much action in action movies, but as long as you make you feel the fear, you have succeeded in the horror genre.

When Evil Lurks not only makes you feel the fear, even if it is momentary; you can't take your eyes off the screen. It has many flaws in acting, but it makes up for them with its story and shooting.

I recommend everyone who loves horror movies to watch the movie. But I must warn you; there are some disgusting things throughout the movie. How much can your stomach handle? It's all about your choice and your curiosity! If you are already curious, you have already taken the first step to watch the movie. So have a good time!
