It's a big bet to combine the industrial revolution with fairies, although fantasy can take place in any era. They definitely went big with that CGI, and although many liked it, The return on investment must not have been as expected for it to be cancelled.

Yes, but the British and fairies are often associated. Orlando Bloom was an executive producer, which I believe was a significant factor in the decision.
