The reality of schools made into sitcom-style comedy | Abbot Elementary [ENG/SPA]

If you loved The Office and loved the format, filming style and comedy of that legendary series, you will surely love The Abbote Elementary. It is a series that satirizes the academic reality of underprivileged cities and communities in the United States, with the same format where it appears that a film crew is day by day with the teachers of a Philadelphia school recording on video every moment of their day at school, from teaching in the classrooms, to the moments of rest where the teachers interact.

La realidad de las escuelas hecha comedia al estilo sitcom

Si amaste the office y te encantó el formato, el estilo de grabación y la comedia de esa legendaria serie, de seguro te encantara The Abbote Elementary. Es una serie que hace sátira de la realidad académica de las ciudades y comunidades menos privilegiadas de los Estados Unidos, con el mismo formato donde aparenta que un grupo de filmación está día a día con los maestros de una escuela del Filadelfia registrando en video cada instante de su día en la escuela, desde la enseñanza en los salones, hasta los momentos de descanso donde interactúan los maestros.

This series has two very successful seasons, has been awarded several times, including Best Comedy Actress, Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, for its innovative script, the wonderful acting of its main characters, among others. It was a favorite of the American audience when it was launched on ABC, and due to its popularity it is now available on many streaming services such as Hulu and even Star+. It is understandable that it has such acceptance, because it targets an audience that sees itself reflected in reality in a critical jocular way, feeling attracted because it is something they experience every day.

Está serie cuenta ya con dos temporadas muy exitosas, ha sido galardonada en varias ocasiones, entre las que destacan mejor actriz de comedia, mejor actriz de reparto de comedia, por su innovador libreto, la maravillosa actuación de sus protagonistas, entre otros. Fue la favorita de la audiencia norteamericana cuando se lanzó en ABC, y debido a su popularidad ahora se encuentra disponible en muchos servicios de streaming como Hulu e incluso Star+. Es entendible que cuente con tal aceptación, porque apunta a una audiencia que se ve reflejada en la realidad de que forma jocosa crítica, sintiéndose atraídos porque es algo que experimentan día a día.

It is well known that in the United States the average person must work long hours to support themselves, the less privileged social strata are the ones who comply with these long working hours, often affecting the upbringing of their children or simply don't work and care little about how they are cared for. Elementary school teachers in these communities must deal with the behavior of children with challenges in their homes and additionally must work with the scarce resources that the city gives them, which are sometimes directed to the trivial and unimportant.

Es bien conocido que en los Estados Unidos las personas promedio deben trabajar por largas jornadas para sostenerse, los estratos sociales menos favorecidos son los que cumplen con estas largas jornadas laborales, afectando en muchas ocasiones la crianza de sus hijos o simplemente no trabajan y les importa poco cómo son atendidos. Los maestros de las escuelas primarias de estas comunidades deben lidiar con el comportamiento de los niños con desafíos en sus hogares y adicionalmente deben trabajar con los escasos recursos que la ciudad les otorga, y que en ocasiones son dirigidos a lo trivial y sin importancia.

This reality is what Abbott Elementary takes advantage of, in a good way, thanks to its creator, producer and star Quinta Brunso. Using comedy as a means of protest against the system that governs public schools, and that elevates and honors the work of the men and women who serve as educators within these schools, but through unique characters, such as the committed teacher super dedicated and perfectionist, the veteran who is still old-fashioned and doesn't accept change because her method has always worked, the one who is a good teacher but her personality is strong and others are afraid of her, the nerd who tries to fit in and the one who does nothing and got the job through influence.

Está realidad es la que aprovecha, en el buen sentido, Abbott Elementary de la mano de su creadora, productora y protagonista Quinta Brunso. Utilizando la comedia como medio de protesta contra el sistema que rige las escuelas públicas, y que eleva y honra la labor de los hombres y mujeres que sirven de educadores dentro de estas escuelas, pero a través de unos personajes únicos, como la maestra comprometida súper entregada y perfeccionista, la veterana que sigue achapada a la antigua y no acepta el cambio porque su método siempre ha funcionado, la que es buena maestra pero su personalidad es fuerte y los demás le temen, el nerd que trata de encajar y la que no hace nada y obtuvo el puesto por influencias.

The chemistry between the actors who play these funny characters is one of the best I've seen in a long time, it gives too much freshness and naturalness to the scenes, I don't know if it's the best way to describe it, but that's what it transmits to me, I really enjoyed that aspect. The jokes and comedy are very good but for the Latin American audience it might not be so funny, because it depends a lot on the American's experiences, with their slang and modisms. Personally I was able to enjoy it because I have been listening to American comedians like Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock and Fluffy for years, so I'm used to their humor.

La química entre los actores que interpretan estos chistosos personajes es una de las mejores que he visto en mucho tiempo, le da demasiada frescura y naturalidad a las escenas, no sé si sea la mejor manera de describirlo, pero es lo que me transmite, en verdad disfrute mucho ese aspecto. Los chistes y la comedia son muy buenos pero para el público latinoamericano quizás no resulte tan jocoso, porque depende mucho de las vivencias del Americano, con sus jergas y modismos. En lo personal pude disfrutarla porque llevo años escuchando a comediantes americanos como Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock y Fluffy por lo tanto estoy algo acostumbrado a su humor.

There are characters that you can love and hate at the same time, my favorite is the principal Ava played by Janelle James, her role as a carefree person who only looks after her personal interests, but who must be responsible for the children of a school makes you hate her, but the touches of humor she brings make you want her to enter the scene because you want to hear one of her crazy things. The fourth screen interaction she does is one of my favorites, plus she plays very well those people who play a leadership position but are the complete useless ones because they are not trained, a perfect critique.

Hay personajes que puedes llegar amar y odiar al mismo tiempo, mi favorito es la directora Ava interpretada por Janelle James, su papel de persona despreocupada que solo vela por sus intereses personales, pero que debe ser responsable por lo niños de una escuela te hace llegar aborrecerla, pero los toques de humor que aporta te hacen a la vez quieres que ella entre en escena porque quieres escuchar una de sus locuras. La interacción con la cuarta pantalla que ella hace es una de mis favoritas, además que desempeña muy bien aquellas personas que desempeñan un puesto de liderazgo pero que son los completos inútiles por no estás capacitados, una perfecta crítica.

Each chapter of the series begins with a new problem that affects the school, the children and therefore the teachers, we see how the most committed teacher struggles to solve everything with optimism, going against even the most experienced teachers who for years have learned to live and teach with the shortcomings and problems. Everything always goes wrong, things get more complicated than necessary when trying to improve, but in the end the chapter leaves us a teaching that even invite you to reflection, which makes you think about how great it is because they combine criticism, laughter, perseverance and constancy to face and overcome challenges.

Cada capítulo de la serie inicia con un nuevo problema que afecta a la escuela, a los niños y por ende a los maestros, vemos como la maestra mas comprometida lucha por querer solucionar todo con optimismo, yendo en contra incluso de los maestros mas experimentados que por años han aprendido a vivir y enseñar con las carencias y problemas. Todos siempre se sale mal, las cosas se complican mas de lo necesario cuando se tratan de mejorar, pero al final el capitulo nos deja una enseñanza que incluso te invitan a la reflexión, lo que te hace pensar en lo genial que es porque combinan la crítica, las risas, la perseverancia y constancia para enfrentar y superar los desafíos.
