RE: Cancelations Everywhere!!!
You are viewing a single comment's thread:
The only way for such ambitious TV shows to avoid cancellation is to produce them in one piece, or at least have some general outline how the plot and characters should develop and how the should they end. Peter Jackson took this approach with The Lord of the Rings trilogy by making three films back-to-back, and Breaking Bad was developed with the narrative structure of five seasons - a plan executed exactly as its creator Vince Gilligan intended.
Concept of "hook the fans of popular novel with a single season and see what happens next" will result in failure in 90-95 percent of cases, even if you have such financial resources as Amazon. Especially now when viewers have countless alternatives. Amazon probably didn't help cause of Wheel of Time by launching Rings of Power at the same time.

This is very correct. And I've seen that this is something that keeps happening. Meanwhile, shows that were meant to be only one or two seasons ended up having way more due to their popularity, like Money Heist and Squid Game, According to what I read somewhere, they were never meant to go beyond seasons 2 and 1, respectively.
When you think about it, the major victims of these cancellations are mainly movies based on books. But then, what else can we expect when the shot callers are businessmen, not movie lovers like us?
