IMHO, the best option for television are the older shows, at least those that are ended, and ended in the way it was conceived by their creators and not being cancelled after first season because of poor ratings (as it happened with many shows that started "cool" only to drop quality or become boring after couple of episodes).

Such series are, sadly, a very rare breed, especially these days with overabundance of material on streaming services which makes truly high quality series difficult to stand out or, more importantly, win fandom big enough to survive first season.

every now and then a decent show will come along, normally at the hands of HBO or Apple, but they rarely stay good and that is a real problem for me.
