(Review) A Man Called Otto - A film that will touch your heart EN/ES
Do you know someone who has lost everything in life? I once knew a lady who complained about everything, she was grumpy and was never at ease with anyone. The truth was super unbearable to be around her, you could only hear her complaints and gossip, I even got annoyed with her on several occasions because of how ungrateful she was with people who wanted to help her. But the truth is that I never took the time to listen to her story, to understand why she was like that and why things had happened, when I talked to her once, I could tell that she had suffered a lot.
She was abused since she was a child, when she was a teenager she was abandoned by her parents, after getting married she emigrated to another country where she was treated very badly, she had two marriages, the first one died of a gunshot in a hostage situation and the second one of old age, she lost the only daughter she had at an early age, and when she was in another country working she received a gunshot that completely changed her life. And as if that were enough, when she is very old and 75 years old her relatives who do not want to take care of her put her in a nursing home against her will. Now seeing all that she has suffered one can wonder or rather understand why she is like that.
¿Conoces a alguien que lo ha perdido todo en la vida? Yo en una ocasión conocí a una señora que se quejaba de todo, era gruñona y nunca estaba a gusto con nadie. La verdad era super insoportable estar cerca de ella, solo se podida oír sus quejas y chismes, incluso hasta me moleste con ella en varias ocasiones por lo mal agradecida que era con las personas que querían ayudarla. Pero la verdad es que nunca dedique tiempo a oír su historia, a comprender porque era así y haber porque cosas había pasado, cuando en una ocasión hable con ella, pude notar que había sufrido mucho.
Desde niña sufrió maltratos, cuando era adolescente fue abandonada por sus padres, luego de casarse emigro a otro país donde la trataban muy mal, tuvo 2 matrimonios, el primero murió de un disparo en una situación de rehenes y el segundo de la vejez, perdió a la única hija que tuvo a una edad temprana, y cuando estaba en otro país trabajando recibió un disparo que cambió por completo su vida. Y por si eso fuera suficiente, cuando es muy mayor y tiene 75 años sus familiares que no quieres hacerse cargo de ella la internan en un asilo para ancianos en contra de su voluntad. Ahora viendo todo lo que ha sufrido uno puede preguntarse o más bien entender porque es así.
And the truth is that people do not need to be very loving or old to have such an attitude, sometimes young people can also show these defensive traits so that no one sees their suffering. But it is necessary to help them because they are people who suffer a lot and what they want most is human warmth. And that is precisely what the film A Man Calle Otto is about, a true gem of cinema and a film that will truly touch your heart, as it deals with the theme of people who have lost everything, even the meaning of life.
Otto's story fits perfectly with the audience because it is a story of redemption, love and self-discovery. Many of us can identify with his pain and his struggle to find meaning after losing someone close to him, and many of us have also struggled with our own tendencies toward rigidity and loneliness. In addition, we have all experienced the joy and challenge that comes with connection and friendship with others.
Y la verdad las personas no necesitan ser muy amores o ancianas para tener una actitud así, algunas veces personas jóvenes tambien pueden mostrar estos rasgos de defensa para que nadie vea su sufrimiento. Pero es necesario ayudarlas ya que son personas que sufren mucho y que lo que más quieren es calor humano. Y es de eso precisamente de lo que trata la película A Man Calle Otto, una verdadera joya del cine y una película que verdaderamente tocara tu corazón, ya que aborda el tema de las personas que lo han perdido todo incluso hasta el sentido de vivir.
La historia de Otto encaja perfectamente con la audiencia porque es una historia de redención, amor y descubrimiento personal. Muchos de nosotros podemos identificarnos con su dolor y su lucha por encontrar significado después de perder a alguien cercano, y muchos también hemos luchado con nuestras propias tendencias hacia la rigidez y la soledad. Además, todos hemos experimentado la alegría y el desafío que vienen con la conexión y la amistad con los demás.
The plot of this film begins with a character who is easily identifiable, a grumpy, lonely man living in a suburban neighborhood. The audience empathizes with him as we see that he is struggling to overcome the death of his wife and to find a sense of purpose in his life. As we learn more about him and his neighbors, we feel more connected to him, because we can recognize some of these characters as people we know in our own lives. But we see how Otto is changing with the arrival of some new neighbors who will teach otto to let go of his bitterness and relive his best moments.
The first thing I would love to highlight about this film is the very human way in which you show the sadness of a person who has lost everything. You show it as if it were an emotional storm that seems to have no end. It is a sense of emptiness, of feeling lost and aimless, of having the feeling that nothing makes sense. It's the kind of pain you feel in your chest, the kind that makes you cry until there are no tears left. For example, in the movie you can see how otto is very happy as he grows up, but then they explain how he loses everything and it is where little by little his life loses meaning until he becomes engrossed in routines to fill that emptiness.
La trama de esta película comienza con un personaje que es fácilmente identificable, un hombre gruñón y solitario que vive en un barrio suburbano. La audiencia siente empatía por él, al ver que está luchando por superar la muerte de su esposa y por encontrar un sentido de propósito en su vida. A medida que aprendemos más sobre él y sus vecinos, nos sentimos más conectados con él, porque podemos reconocer a algunos de estos personajes como personas que conocemos en nuestra propia vida. Pero vemos como Otto va cambiando con la llegada de unos nuevos vecinos que le enseñaran a otto a soltar sus amarguras y a revivir sus mejores momentos.
Lo primero que me encantaría destacar de esta cinta es la manera tan humana en la que muestras la tristeza de una persona que lo ha perdido todo. Lo muestran como si se tratara de una tormenta emocional que no parece tener fin. Es una sensación de vacío, de sentirse perdido y sin rumbo, de tener la sensación de que nada tiene sentido. Es el tipo de dolor que se siente en el pecho, el que te hace llorar hasta que no quedan lágrimas. Por ejemplo, en la película se puede ver como otto es muy feliz a medida que va creciendo, pero luego explican como lo va perdiendo todo y es donde poco a poco su vida va perdiendo sentido hasta enfrascarse en rutinas para llenar ese vacío.
And for me to say it's a movie that will touch your heart is not just from me, in fact, the reviews it received were hugely positive, leaving comments like: Leave all the cynicism at the door and let A Man Called Otto tug at your heartstrings with its tried and true melody: it just might sing. And finally s a film by way of reflection that helps us think about the enormous suffering endured by those who feel alone and have lost everything, this film is a sort of helping hand for those people, letting them know that there is someone who loves you and is willing to help.
Y el que diga que es una película que tocara tu corazón no es solo de mi parte, de hecho, las reseñas que recibió fueron enormemente positivas, dejando comentarios como: Deja todo el cinismo en la puerta y permite que A Man Called Otto toque las fibras de tu corazón con su melodía probada y verdadera: simplemente podría cantar. De parte de Rotten Tomatoes. Y por último s una película a modo de reflexión que nos ayuda a pensar en el enorme sufrimiento que padecen quienes se sienten solos y lo han perdido todo, esta película es una especie de mano ayudadora para esas personas, dejándoles saber que hay alguien que os quiere y está dispuesto a ayudar.
So, if you want to see a movie with a lot of sense, a beautiful story, a very touching ending, comedy, but above all to see humanity at its best, I recommend A Man Called Otto, a movie from which we can learn a lot. He visto varias reseñas de esta película, me parece interesante y siempre es bueno ver algo con este tipo de mensaje que bien describes, me agrada el filme, sobre todo, que Tom Hanks siempre es un buen motivo para ver una película, de mis actores favoritos.

Hola Fabián, no sabía nada sobre esta película, leyendo tu reseña me parece un tanto a la película Gran Torino, esa típica historia de alguien endurecido por la vida y que se hablanda de nuevo por su más reciente realidad, gracias por compartir la voy a buscar.
Oye no lo habia pensado, pero es algo asi solo que con mucha comedia, el gran torino es mas drama, pero gracias por comentar y disculpa la tardanza :D
Me gustó mucho ese preámbulo que hiciste porque sirve para ponernos en contexto de lo que encontraremos en esta peli, tienes toda la razón, ese tipo de personas llevan mucho sufrimiento a cuestas, y aunque no justifico el chismorreo ni los malos comentarios, comprendo que tal vez, en el fondo, lo que estas personas buscan es llamar la atención para no sentirse del todo solas, es muy triste.
