(Review) Renfield - Abusive bosses with too much power are the worst [EN/ES]

Have you ever had an abusive boss? Well, I think that almost 100% of the people who have had a job where they are accountable to someone have had to go through that experience. And it's amazing what happens when someone who has 3 lots in the bank and with some authority, tries to do to others. In my case I had an extremely abusive boss, he was like a toxic woman, since he treated all employees badly and the worst thing is that he said he was good because he always gave job opportunities and that everyone was ungrateful, but it was extremely rare that no employee lasted a month. But, although ordinary human beings have to deal with that, it is interesting that supernatural creatures like vampires also have to deal with extremely abusive and despot bosses.

And that is precisely what Nicolas Cage and Nicolas Hoult's new movie is about, where we will see Nicolas Cage as Count Dracula himself, being a lord of evil and darkness but he is nothing without his servant Renfield starring Nicolas Hoult, where besides being treated as the worst trash, Renfield feels indebted or obliged to help Dracula, until one day he decides to change his life forever, which may bring consequences. ¿Has tenido alguna vez algún jefe abusivo? Pues creo que casi el 100% de las personas que han tenido un empleo donde deban rendirle cuentas a alguien han tenido que pasar por esa experiencia. Y es que es sumamente increíble lo que pasa cuando alguien que tiene 3 lochas en el banco y con algo de autoridad, trata de hacer a los demás. En mi caso tenía un jefe sumamente abusivo, era como una mujer toxica, ya que trataba mal a todos los empleados y lo peor es que decía que era bueno porque siempre daba oportunidades de trabajo y que todos eran malagradecidos, pero era sumamente raro que ningún empleado le duraba un mes. Pero, aunque los seres humanos ordinarios tenemos que lidiar con eso, es interesante que tambien las criaturas sobrenaturales como los vampiros tambien deben lidiar con jefes sumamente abusivos y déspotas.

Y eso es lo que precisamente trata la nueva película de Nicolas Cage y Nicolas Hoult, donde veremos a Nicolas Cage como el mismísimo conde Drácula, siendo un señor del mal y la oscuridad pero que no es nada sin su sirviente Renfield protagonizado por Nicolas Hoult, donde además de ser tratado como la peor basura, Renfield se siente en deuda u obligado a ayudar a Drácula, hasta que un día decide cambiar su vida para siempre, lo cual podrá traer consecuencias. Count Dracula's servant named Renfield is tired of his boss treating him in an abusive way, always imposing him to bring people to devour, receiving constant mistreatment and also Dracula himself has separated him from his family, which he never saw again, Renfield was a lawyer willing to do anything to give the best life to his family, and this led him to get with Count Dracula, who deceived him and made him his slave by giving him some of his blood to get victims and gain power. But centuries have passed and Renfield is tired of so much abuse and mistreatment, so one day he finds a new opportunity to leave behind his past and abuses and start from scratch in a modern New Orleans and everything seems to go for good when he falls in love with Rebecca Quincy, a traffic cop. But they will have to face the past and other supernatural things.

The story of Dracula has been told in different ways:

So far more than 40 movies have been made about Dracula as the powerful vampire who causes terror among people, some funny or terrifying and others with a lot of gore. But so far there has not been a film about Dracula's servant, and the whole film focuses solely on him, as well as his experiences, fears and insecurities. It's like a nice change of perspective quite good.

El sirviente del conde Drácula llamado Renfield está cansado de que su jefe lo trate de manera abusiva, siempre imponiéndole que le traiga personas para devorar, recibiendo maltratos constantes y además el mismo Drácula lo ha separado de su familia, la cual nunca más volvió a ver, y es que Renfield era un abogado dispuesto a todo para darle la mejor de las vidas a su familia, y esto lo llevo a conseguirse con el conde Drácula, que lo engaño y lo convirtió en su esclavo dándole un poco de su sangre para conseguirle víctimas y ganar poder. Pero han pasado siglos y Renfield está cansado de tantos abusos y maltratos, así que un día se encuentra una nueva oportunidad de vida para dejar atrás su pasado y abusos y comenzar desde cero en una moderna Nueva Orleans y todo parece ir para bien cuando se enamora de Rebecca Quincy, una policía de tráfico. Pero deberán enfrentar al pasado y otras cosas sobrenaturales.

La historia de Drácula ha sido contada de distintas maneras:

Hasta ahora se han hecho más de 40 películas sobre Drácula como el poderoso vampiro y que causa terror entre las personas, algunas chistosas o terroríficas y otras pues con mucho gore. Pero hasta los momentos no se había hecho una película sobre el sirviente de Drácula, y que toda la película se enfoque únicamente en él, Así como sus vivencias, miedos e inseguridades. Es como un buen cambio de perspectiva bastante bueno.

Also, Nicolas Cage's performance as an evil vampire is quite good, as is the performance of a Renfield who, although he seems like just a coward, after he empowers himself you see what he is really made of. Also, I liked the way Renfield acquires powers, as he is not a full vampire, as his powers come from Dracula pouring his blood into him, and he is not a full vampire, who has abilities like super strength and stamina, but can see the sun. What activates his powers is eating insects.

Another interesting aspect of this movie, is that it is 100% gore, but I was very surprised when in the cinema it had a B rating, that is suitable for over 16 years old or 13 in Venezuela, when it has the same degree of violence and blood, guts and so on as the movie Logan. Also, I think this movie is very similar to Day Shift, since, although it is horror it is mainly focused on comedy, since the funny scenes are not lacking in the whole movie.

Además, la actuación de Nicolás Cage como un vampiro malvado es bastante buena, lo mismo la actuación de un Renfield que, aunque parece solo un cobarde, luego que se empodera se ve de lo que en realidad está hecho. Además, me gusto la manera en la que Renfield adquiere poderes, ya que no es un vampiro completo, ya que sus poderes vienen de que Drácula vertió su sangre en él, y no es un vampiro completo, que tiene habilidades como super fuerza y resistencia, pero que puede ver el sol. Lo que activa sus poderes es comer insectos.

Otro aspecto interesante de esta película, es que es 100% gore, pero me sorprendió mucho cuando en el cine tenía una clasificación de B, es decir apta para mayores de 16 años o 13 en Venezuela, cuando tiene el mismo grado de violencia y sangre, tripas y demás que la película Logan. Además, pienso que esta película se parece mucho a Day Shift, ya que, aunque es terror está enfocada principalmente en la comedia, ya que las escenas chistosas no faltan en toda la película.

Esta obra maestra del cine de terror ha logrado cautivar al espectador gracias a una historia intrigante y aterradora, y a la actuación magistral de un elenco talentoso encabezado por Nicolás Cage en el papel de un vampiro infame. La trama de Renfield es cautivadora desde el principio hasta el final, y es fácil entender por qué ha generado tanta aceptación entre el público.
La película explora temas profundos como la locura, la identidad, la redención y la lealtad, y lo hace de una manera sutil pero efectiva.
