Any interest in creating a Hive based movie production studio?

I've been away again, haven't I? It's surely been a while, but I assure you I haven't been idle. Instead I've been managing my finances, quite a stressful errand indeed.

I also started taking photos after a long hiatus. Here's one I recently shot of a family of Great crested grebes:

While I was out shooting some photos today, I started wondering, whether it would be feasible to kick-start a small-time movie production studio with Hive funding. I've got a couple of short stories to base a script upon, but I am not personally familiar to all the intricacies in movie development; finding actors, directors etc.

I would however be willing to put some of my own time and money into the start-up of the production, and provide some funding and ideas along the way.

We could use D.Tube to release the films, and then split up the proceeds between the writers, producers and the production crew.

One such story that I've thought might make a neat short movie could be my short dream story Vertigo, I posted here some years ago. All it needs is reformatting into a script, which shouldn't be a too hard task, it being so short. If you have any ideas of your own to add to the pot, you might want to post them here in the thread.

I wonder, are there any aspiring actors and/or directors on Hive?

Let's see where the road leads us!

That could be a very cool way to bring the hive community together to create something bigger than each individual.

Thank you! I thought so as well. It'd be great if we could create our own little Hollywood to show our talents to the world.

avatar

Im also thinking a movie could be a great way spread awareness and to get new people interested in participating in the hive ecosystem. The idea of decentralized movie creation is very interesting.

avatar

It could definitely make Hive more known, if we were able to produce a movie or few as a community. The only problem I see is bringing all the people together to create the movies, since it's a global community. We'd likely need to establish it, or several small groups of enthusiasts, somewhere where most of the talent concentrates.

I agree, but i love the long-term implications. The logistics of decentralized project management is definitely something that needs to be refined before anything large scale is attempted. Thinking ahead though, actors would have to be in the same relative area in order to participate (just for ease of filming). Im wondering if theres a way to open that door to international actors. It would be cool if the movie had scenes from around the world utilizing hives outreach.

Plenty of B-roll could be produced quite effectively and cheap by individuals around the world that's true.

It's the logistics part that may prove a hassle, especially if the actors are from different parts of the world.

I recall there is a #HiveFest meetup in Mexico this year. I wonder if there are enough people interested in movie making going there. I am a bit too late to join, and currently a bit tied up with my finances too.

In a matter of fact, I just checked the HiveFest 2023 speakers and noticed @lordbutterfly and @littlelamb are titled "Freechain movie producer" and "Freechain movie director". I wonder what Freechain is about, and whether it has similar goals to what I just wrote about.

avatar

Yes. It is exactly tied into what you mentioned in the post.
If Freechain succeeds to the level we hope it will we will start a "production studio" on Hive.

We already know what the next film will be.

It all depends on the results we manage to achieve and the connections we create.

Let me know when you start, I would be happy to support or even join the project if possible!

We could use D.Tube to release the films, and then split up the proceeds between the writers, producers and the production crew.

DTube is no longer using the Hive blockchain. Nowadays DTube is using the Avalon blockchain. Better to use 3Speak (Threespeak), if we would like to use something, which is using the Hive blockchain.

By the way, I am interested both in video creating, in video editing, and in acting too. Although I tried the latter (acting) only in my imagination so far.

avatar

Oh, is that true? I can still login on D.Tube using the Hive keychain. I have not used 3speak yet, I recall they had some weird process of account creation I wasn't ready to go through at the time I tried it.

Yea I actually forgot videographers, video editors and musicians from my posts. We would need to gather some talent in those areas too.

They write in the FAQ that "Any video uploaded on D.Tube becomes an Avalon content, that can earn rewards also you can post your content to Steem and Hive blockchains and benefit from interoperable features of Dtube".

Steem/Hive as a login/post method is still working, but currently they are using the Avalon blockchain as a database.

avatar

Is Avalon storing the films in the blockchain or something, or are they basically just on YouTube?

3speak might be a better platform. At least it's primarily a Hive service.

avatar

As I currently understand, DTube is currently using the Avalon blockchain as a database, and IPFS (InterPlanetary File System) as a static file storage (storing the videos).

avatar

IPFS is a smart choice, given that you run your own node to seed the files. There's always some cost if one wants their videos to be permanently online, and not subject to the whims of a centralized service.

It appears 3speak is broken, I can't link my Hive account, it keeps pushing me back to the login page, instead of Hivesigner.

It's nice to see you post again after being a while and I really can't wait for your movie film to be out.

avatar

Thank you!

I am still uncertain whether any of this will come to pass, but I am hopeful someone might get interested enough.

avatar

Wow, we've missed you alot and it's nice to see you again and I can't wait to see your movie

Thank you! I've missed being here.

I won't be promising anything yet though. 😅 I am still just feeling the waters and checking whether there are any talented people on Hive interested in such a project.

avatar

I will love to read out the script if I can pursue a role of an actor because I've been inspiring to start a mini skit also but if I can be able to perform well in the role of an actor I think that will surely motivate me in my plans as well... So I'll be interested in your plans as well

avatar

Nice to see you back & hope you & your family is doing well!

No idea of Hive based movie production, but this platform can be used in real production processes that I wish to try in near future.

Thanks! It is certainly nice to be back. We are fine and dandy overall, but after last year's crashes an personal liquidations in the crypto world, I've found myself a little bit in a tight spot stressing about my finances more than I think is healthy. I'm on a lookout for the next Bitcoin or Tesla, while making some extra money by trading. (I wasn't supposed to become a trader, but that's just about the only thing I know how to do, however anxious I am about doing it. It's the tools like TradingView that are quite expensive to use that make it somewhat apprehensive task.)

avatar

I wish you a good luck, personally I am not good trader, so always trying to stay out of it :D

Thank you! I appreciate it. If it weren't for my past follies I would stay out of it too, frankly. 😂
