Lookism | it's ok to cry if that's what you want to do

I don't remember why I started watching this series, but what I do know is that it's better than I could ever expect, I just want Netflix not to cancel it and continue animating the manga, I haven't read it, but I already know what the second season could be about and I died with how intense and deep it's going to be, because this first season is amazing and I know it because of the very few complaints it has, because we know they always complain about everything, but no, here they always say the same thing, coming from Netflix we expected something ugly and horrible, but no, Netflix did their job well and gave us a very well done series, which we hope they don't cancel.

Lookism has a simple premise, which has been seen before, but here it still surprises because of how raw it is portrayed and how strong it ends up being. Hyeong Seok is an ordinary student, the only thing that stands out about him and what makes his life hell, is that he is fat because in South Korean society it is considered a sin, so the popular people at school have taken it as a part-time job to make Hyeong's life impossible until he can't stand it anymore and one day his mother decides to send him to another school in another place far away because one day they would end up killing him in his current school.

Everything seems to go normal in the new city where he arrives, but it is not so, in all possible places where he goes to make his life he will be marginalized and humiliated, and he will be a victim of bullying. After arriving all beaten to his new room he falls into a deep sleep but wakes up with the surprise that he is in a new body, a body that could be considered perfect, so he begins to live a double life, a day in his perfect and beautiful body, night in his original body, suffering abuse, trying to survive.

No recuerdo por qué fue comencé a ver esta serie, pero lo que sí sé es que es mejor de lo que podría llegar a esperar, solo quiero que Netflix no la cancele y sigue animando el manga, no lo he leído, pero ya sé sobre qué podría llegar a tratar la segunda temporada y morí con lo intensa y profunda que va a ser, porque esta primera temporada es increíble y lo sé por las muy pocas quejas que tiene, pues ya sabemos que siempre se suelen quejar de todo, pero no, aquí siempre dicen lo mismmo, viniendo de Netflix se esperaba algo feo y horrible, pero no, Netflix hizo bien su trabajo y nos dio una serie muy bien hecha, que esperamos no cancele.

Lookism tiene una premisa sencilla, que ya se ha visto antes, pero aquí igual sorprende por lo cruda que es representada y lo fuerte que termina siendo. Hyeong Seok es un estudiante común y corriente, lo único que destaca de él y lo que hace de su vida un infierno, es que es gordo, porque en la sociedad de Korea del Sur es considerado como pecado, así que los populares de la escuela se han tomado como trabajo a medio tiempo hacerle la vida imposible a Hyeong, hasta que no lo soporta más y un día su madre decide mandarlo a otra escuela en otro lugar muy lejos, pues un día lo iban a terminar matando en su escuela actual.

Todo parece ir normal en la nueva ciudad a la que llega, pero no es así, en todos los lugares posibles donde vaya a hacer su vida será marginado y humillado, será víctima del bullying. Después de llegar todo golpeado a su nueva habitación cae en un sueño profundo, pero despierta con la sorpresa de que está en un nuevo cuerpo, un cuerpo que podría llegar a ser considerado como perfecto, así que comienza a vivir una doble vida, de día en su cuerpo perfecto y hermoso, de noche en su cuerpo original, sufriendo abusos, tratando de sobrevivir.

As you can see, something that has been seen before, which could mean that the series lacks originality or that it is not going to be enjoyed, but no, it is not like that, the beginning is what costs the most, getting used to the characters, understanding them, knowing if they are terrible or not, what they want, what motivates them, what we can come to expect from them in future chapters. Eventually, we can get to get an idea of what they are and who they are, but it's not going to mean that we're going to get to understand them or expect the kind of actions they're going to commit, good or bad, which is going to be very frustrating.

One of my favorite things is that little by little they are going to show us the dualities of people, how someone is not good or bad, how a person can be good and bad at the same time, the way they exercise their free will to do good and bad as they see fit, because you will see, we will have completely hateful people that at times we will see them as if they were normal people, and in the next scene they will be making someone's life impossible just because they think they are not pretty enough, it's horrible.

Como ya ven, algo que ya se ha visto antes, lo que podría significar que la serie carece de originalidad o que no se va a disfrutar, pero no, no es así, el principio es lo que más cuesta, acostumbrarse a los personajes, entenderlos, saber si son realmente malos o no, qué es lo que quieren, qué los motiva, qué podemos llegar a esperar de ellos en los capítulos futuros. Eventualmente podremos llegar a hacernos una idea de lo que son y quienes son, pero no va a significar que llegaremos a entenderlos o a esperar el tipo de acciones que van a cometer, buenas o malas, lo que va a ser muy frustrante.

Una de mis cosas favoritas es que poco a poco nos van a ir mostrando las dualidades de las personas, como alguien no es totalmente bueno o totalmente malo, como una persona puede ser buena y mala a la vez, la forma en ejercen el libre albedrío para hacer el bien y el mal según les parezca, porque ya verán, tendremos a personas completamente odiosas que por momentos las veremos como si fueran personas normales, y en la siguiente escena le estarán haciendo la vida imposible a alguien solo porque les parece que es no es lo suficientemente bonita, es horrible.

Hyeong Seok is one of the best-built characters I've seen, the relationship he has with his mother broke my heart, I'm going to tell you a little spoiler, Hyeong not only decided to leave because he couldn't stand what was happening, but one day his mother went to visit him at school and saw how he was being humiliated and beaten incessantly just for fun, She tried to help him, to stop his bullies, but none of that mattered, because although it made the situation more uncomfortable, the only thing Hyeong could tell his mother was that she was embarrassing him, she shouted at him, and they considered that as something worse than bullying. He couldn't tell her thank you, couldn't tell her to go away, no, the only thing he could tell her was that she was embarrassing him, he would rather keep getting beaten up than have his mother defend him.

It was not an easy scene to watch, not at all, at that moment I did not know what to feel, I did not know whether to cry, whether to feel anger, I did not know whether to stop watching the series, whether to continue watching it, it upset me more than I expected, and it was not the only scene that upset me like that, during the whole series more than once we will be put in a situation where morals will be tested and we will not know what to do, we will not know what decisions the characters are going to take, everything is more complicated than it seems.

Hyeong Seok es uno de los personajes mejor construidos que he visto, la relación que tiene con su madre me rompió el corazón, les voy a contar un pequeño spoiler, Hyeong no solo decidió irse porque no aguantara lo que estaba sucediendo, si no que un día su madre lo fue a visitar a la escuela y vio cómo lo humillaban y lo golpeaban sin cesar solo por diversión, ella intentó ayudarlo, detener a sus bullies, pero nada de eso importó, pues si bien volvió más incómoda la situación, lo único que Hyeong pudo decirle a su madre fue que ella lo estaba avergonzando, se lo dijo a gritos, y eso ellos lo consideraron como algo peor que el bullying. No pudo decirle gracias, no pude decirle que se fuera, no, lo único que le pudo decirr fue que lo avergonzaba, él prefería seguir siendo golpeado a que su madre lo defendiera.

No fue una escena nada fácil de ver, para nada, en ese momento no supe qué sentir, no sabía si llorar, si sentir rabia, no sabia si dejar de ver la serie, si seguir viéndola, me alteró más de lo que esperaba, y no fue la única escena que me alteró así, durante toda la serie más de una vez nos pondrán en una situación donde la moral va a ser puesta a prueba y no sabremos qué hacer, no sabremos cuáles van a ser las desiciones que los personajes van a tomar, todo es más complicado de lo que parece.

I want a second season, I said, if you don't give it to me, there will be a table. Instead of leaving you a trailer I'm going to leave you a song that takes place in the last chapter. The music is too beautiful, and considering everything that happened in the series, it takes more weight than we would think, it made me cry the wretch, so you know, you have to cry too. Watch the series, it's worth it, I thought it was a wholly laid-back series full of clichés and stereotypes, that it wouldn't be worth it, but it wasn't, it put me in my place and gave itself respect, so yes, watch it, you won't regret it.

Quiero segunda temporada, he dicho, si no me la dan, habrá tabla. En vez de dejarles un trailer les voy a dejar una canción que tiene lugar en el último capítulo. La canción es demasiado hermosa, y teniendo en cuenta todo lo que pasó en la serie, toma mayor peso del que pensaríamos, me hizo llorar la desgraciada, asi que ya saben, tienen que llorar también. Vean la serie, vale totalmente la pena, pensé que era una serie completamente relajada llena de clichés y estereotipos, que no valdría totalmente la pena, pero no fue así, me puso en mi lugar y se dio a respetar, así que sí, véanla, no se van a arrepentir.
