The Menu | I don't like your food

I had been waiting for The Menu for many months, it was when I saw the trailer and I practically forgot that the movie existed and was coming out, so I got excited again when I found out that the movie was already available, and since the trailer didn't show much, I didn't remember almost anything about what it was about, so I was like a sponge absorbing everything that the screen was showing me, melting like butter on low heat every time I saw Anya just existing.

The Menu is exactly what it stands for, it's a movie that you get a taste for while watching it, you may never even like it, that's a possibility, but the least you get to do is appreciate it, maybe understand it. We will live firsthand the experience of haute cuisine and how it can mean life and death for its diners, because, on this special occasion, the attendees of the restaurant were specifically chosen for the actions and lifestyles they have, with one exception, Margot, played by Anya, who is not supposed to be there.

Esperaba The Menu desde hace muchos meses, fue cuando vi el trailer y prácticamente me olvidé de que la película existía e iba salir, así que me volví a emocionar mucho cuando me enteré de que ya estaba disponible la película, y como en el trailer no mostraban mucho, yo no recordaba casi nada sobre lo que trataba, así que estaba como una esponja absorviendo todo lo que me estaba mostrando la pantalla, derritiéndome como mantequilla a fuego lento cada vez que veía a Anya tan solo existiendo.

The Menu es exactamente lo que representa, es una película a la que se le agarra el gusto mientras la vemos, quizás ni siquiera nunca les llegue a gustar, es una posibilidad, pero lo mínimo que se llega a hacer es apreciarla, quizás entenderla. Viviremos de primera mano la experiencia de la alta cocina y cómo esta puede llegar a significar la vida y la muerte de sus comensales, pues en esta ocación especial los asistentes al restaurante fueron específicamente elegidos por las acciones y estilos de vida que tienen, con una excepción, Margot, interpretada por Anya, que se supone no debería estar ahí.

The first few minutes were horrible for me, too much light, too many camera changes, and an excessive amount of background sounds and people talking, I was overstimulated and just wanted to close my eyes, cover my ears, and wait for the feeling of having my senses being bombarded to pass, that was too weird, it rarely happens to me, I guess I'm more sensitive than you would expect lately, it was horrible, the truth. So once all this happened, and the movie I was hoping to see started, I enjoyed it like a drink of water in the middle of the desert, it was a total delight, maybe I'll watch it after posting this, though I will to see if I feel the overload of my senses again with the beginning.

I don't know about you if you already saw it, but I laughed too much, and I make no apologies for that, simply every scene was more hilarious than the previous one, every punchline, every Chef comeback, and every interaction was simply a tragicomedy where we were given two options, laugh or cry, and as much as I love to cry, this time I decided to laugh, and I laughed almost to the end, it was a delight.

Just to let you know the level of the meanness of the movie, I don't remember if it was with the first or second course, maybe it was the third, anyway, there is a food critic dining there and she complained loudly that one of the sauces they served was prepared wrong or something. The Chef heard her, so in the next few minutes, we will see how he sends her a giant bowl full of that sauce that was poorly prepared just for her. I laughed like you have no idea when that happened, and the movie hadn't even gotten intense yet.

Los primeros minutos fueron horribles para mí, demasiada luz, muchos cambios de cámaras, una excesiva cantidad de sonidos de fondo y personas hablando, me sobreestímulo y solo quería cerrar los ojos, tapar mis oídos y esperar a que la sensación de tener mis sentidos siendo bombardeados pasara, eso fue demasiado raro, casi nunca me pasa, supongo que estoy más sensible de lo que se podría esperar ultimamente, ha sido horrible, la verdad. Así que una vez pasó todo esto, y comenzó la película que esperaba ver, la disfruté como si fuera un trago de agua en medio del desierto, fue una delicia total, quizás la vea después de publicar esto, aunque lo haré solo para ver si vuelvo a sentir la sobrecarga de mis sentidos con el principio.

No sé ustedes, si es que ya la vieron, pero yo me reí demasiado, y no me disculpo por eso, simplemente cada escena era más hilarante que la anterior, cada punchline, cada comeback del Chef, cada interacción era simplemente una tragicomedia donde nos daban dos opciones, reír o llorar, y por más que yo ame llorar, esta vez decidí reír, y me reí casi hasta el final, fue una delicia.

Solo para que se enteren del nivel de mezquindad de la película, no recuerdo si fue con el primer o segundo plato, quizás fue el tercero, en fin, hay una crítica de comida cenando ahí y se quejó en voz alta de que una de las salsas que sirvieron estaba mal preparada o algo así, y el Chef la escuchó, así que en los siguiente minutos veremos cómo le manda un tazón gigante lleno de esa salsa que estaba mal preparada solo para ella. Me reí como no tienen idea cuando eso pasó, y aún la película ni siquiera se había puesto intensa.

In this movie, they turned into reality what is almost always seen in expensive restaurants, and it is not only the fact that you are not paying for the food, but you are paying for the status, the experience, all that ridiculousness, but no, that was not what they brought to reality, what I mean is that each dish had its own story, its reason for being, each dish told a story that even in its individuality was able to relate to the rest of the people present. Each dish came with the respective presentation of the Chef, which ended with the indication of the ingredients used in its preparation, and if Ralph Fiennes had not come out in defense of J. K. Rowling's transphobic wretchedness, I would have enjoyed his performance, but I could not.

Nicholas Hoult did an exquisite job, he reminded me too much of his character in Skins, Tony, a know-it-all who thought he could do whatever he wanted with whomever he wanted. So was his character here, unbearable, he shut me up, and for that alone I loved him, because they perfectly represented the wannabe, the people who believe they are and are on a higher plane of humanity but pretend a humility that no one will ever believe and only serves to speak ill of them. Furthermore, Tyler, Nicholas' character, was not only someone who admired Chef, but what he felt was already fanaticism, that he took Chef's word at face value, and as we will come to see, he will do what Chef tells him without hesitation. Tyler's ending gave me more satisfaction than it should have.

En esta película volvieron realidad lo que casi siempre se ve en los restaurantes costosos, y no es solo el hecho de que no se está pagando por la comida, si no que se paga por el estatus, la experiencia, todas esas ridiculces, pero no, eso no fue lo que llevaron a la realidad, a lo que me refiero es que cada plato tenía su propia historia, su propia razón de ser, cada plato contaba una historia que incluso en su indiidualidad se lograba relacionar con el resto de las personas presentes. Cada plato venía con la respectiva prsentación del Chef, que terminaba con la indicación de los ingredientes usados en su preparación, y si Ralph Fiennes no hubiera salido en defensa de la transfóbica desgracaida de J. K. Rowling, hubiera disfrutado su actuación, pero no pude hacerlo.

Nicholas Hoult hizo un trabajo exquisito, me recordó demasiado a su personaje en Skins, Tony, un sabelotodo que creía que podía hacer lo que quisiera con quien quisiera. Así fue su personaje aquí, insoortable, de verdad me calló mal, y solo por eso lo amé, porque representaron a la perfección a los wannabe, a la gente que cree ser y estar en un plano superior de la humanidad pero finge una humildad que nadie jamás se va a creer y solo sirve para que se hable mal de ellos. Además, Tyler, el personaje de Nicholas, no solo era alguien que admiraba al Chef, si no que lo que él sentía ya era fanatismo, que tomaba al pie de la letra la palabra del Chef, y como ya llegaremos a ver, hará lo que el Chef le diga sin dudar. El final de Tyler me dio más satisfacción de la que debería.

The theatricality of the film is unquestionable, maybe it has too much theatricality for its good, but the ending, fuck, the end was an explosion of ecstasy and satisfaction for me, watching that final course was one of my favorite things, it was like having my neck caressed and uncontrollable chills, that's how delicious, precious and wonderful the ending is.

I am dying to tell you more about the movie, but I must not, you have to see it, there are too many scenes worthy of love, there is life, there is death, there are epiphanies, there is meanness, there is kindness, there is love, there is hate, all served on a silver platter for our enjoyment, for our suffering, for us to live it and smile amid tears.

La teatralidad de la película es indudable, quizás tiene demasiada teatralidad para su propio bien, pero el final, joder, el final fue una explosión de éxtasis y satisfacción para mí, ver ese plato final fue una de mis cosas favoritas, fue como si me acariciaran el cuello y me dieran incontrolables escalofríos, así de delicioso, precioso y maravilloso es el final.

Muero por hablarles más de la película, pero no debo, tienen que verla, hay demasiadas escenas dignas de amor, hay vida, hay muerte, hay epifanías, has mezquindad, hay bondad, hay amor, hay odio, todo servido en bandeja de plata para nuestro disfrute, para nuestro sufrir, para que lo vivamos y podamos sonreír en medio de las lágrimas.
