RE: MOVIE REVIEW: “You've Got Mail” (1998)

I remember the day and the theater where I saw this movie. In my country, it premiered around February 14th, Valentine's Day. Back then, it was simply called Valentine's Day; the Day of Love and Friendship was invented shortly after.
For me, it was an attempt to repeat the success this couple had with Sleepless in Seattle, and they certainly succeeded. Although I prefer Sleepless in Seattle.
These days it's hard to find a romantic comedy like the ones from back in the day, but every now and then one comes along that's worthwhile.

I think that, despite all efforts coming from the studios, the romantic comedy subgenre will never be the same again. It takes a "near-cosmic synergy" among the direction, screenplay and cast to make this work.
Nora Ephron knew how to do that very well, and back then, cinema was more truly cinema (in the essence of the art form). As for Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan... What is there to say? They are just perfect together.
