The Rings of Power: Did they justify the $60 million spent per episode?

As a cinephile, you know you are up for a big treat when the prequel to Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones is being released at the same period. It's such a pleasure to have access to these and I'm incredibly excited to see how the stories evolve.

It's important to note that the first season of both series is still being released weekly. You can check this to see what I think of the first 6 episodes of House of the dragon. In this post, we will be talking about the impression I have about the first 6 episodes of the Rings of power.

The expectations are very high for this show;

The Lord of the Rings movie was released in 2002 and all the sequels that came after that have been very amazing to watch with very thrilling action sequences and nice use of CGI. The production team did a very good job of giving the best and we thoroughly enjoyed watching those.

Many years later (now in 2022), we heard of this Ring of Power series which cost almost $60 million per episode. That would be almost $480 million for the 8 episodes of the first season. Wow! This wins it the record of being the most expensive Tv Series ever made.

That record comes with very high expectations and it appears that so many people have not been impressed with where this money was spent. The series is getting an awful lot of criticism for its CGI, storytelling and a bunch of other things.

For me, I'm quite impressed with the CGI and the costume. The locations and make-up for special characters like the orcs show that money has been spent in so many places. But 60 Million dollars? Wow! That's the part that is hard to consider.

It's even harder when you consider the fact that some elements of the storyline are not very captivating.

The part with the man (whom I assume to be the Gandalf of this show) that fell from the sky and his association with the Harfoots is still very boring and too draggy. I mean, 6 out of 8 episodes are already released yet we know nothing about the man. He doesn't even speak in an intelligible way.

We've not seen a lot of fighting scenes, but the ones we've seen have been a joy to watch. Galadriel, for one, is always bringing so much tension, action and intensity to any scene she appears in.

She is an elf and the Commander of the Northern Armies. A role that suits her temperament so much.

While the last few episodes have been back and forth with the thrill it offers, the 6th episode which was released last week is by far the best of them all. It has all the actions you would expect and it was an episode filled with so much intensity, you would hardly notice how fast time was flying.

Is this a good show to watch?

Have a look at the trailer. Delicious!

I think it's a pity that a show like this is airing at the same period as House of the dragon. No offence meant, but I'm 100% hooked on the things going on in the latter while I'm still trying to find reasons to dig deeper into Rings of Power.

Nonetheless, we still have two more episodes to go in the first season. I don't think they justified spending almost $480 million on this and I genuinely don't think the money will be justified in the last two episodes. But, I've already started watching this and I will surely watch till the end.

Is this on your watchlist?

What's your preference between this show and House of a dragon?

Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma.
