That's because how people perceive something is funny or not always related to their culture and custom.
The way people think is just different, so something considered funny here can even be rather offensive somewhere else.
That's why to understand jokes well and could sense the funny thing in the sentence, one doesn't only need to speak the language well, but also need to have enough cultural understanding about the people speaking the language 😊.

That is true aswell! I can't understand some uk/usa jokes without the background even if I can translate them well!

The way people think is just different

For sure!

I don't ever see anything funny in a practical joke. My husband and daughter love them. Doesn't make sense to me how a practical joke is funny. But, as you say, the way people think is just different. If we allowed for that in all parts of our lives I think people would get along a lot better.
