One of my first trips to the movies without the company of adults was when I was 12 years old, in 1979. There were so many movies to see but because of my age and the rating system I could not go in to see them.

My desperation not to be discovered since you had the time counted and curiosity led me to buy tickets to the first film that let me enter the multiplex of the mall, that film was called: A Little Romance.

Without wanting to I suddenly found myself in front of some spectacular landscapes only possible to see in the old continent in countries like France and Italy.

The protagonists were barely two or three years older than me, the boy was poor and, but very witty, very good at mathematics, as well as a lover of cinema, and the young woman was beautiful and very intelligent and liked to read very deep books. The boy wins money by using his skills with numbers to bet on horse races.

They both coincide one day in a museum, at a movie screening, and fall in love, the girl's mother was very hateful and really disliked the boy.

The teenage couple meet an elderly man who tells them stories especially one about a bridge in Venice where they must kiss each other to love each other forever.

After getting money at the racetrack they decide to run away together from Paris to Venice, unleashing a chase in which the police of France and Italy are involved, this will not prevent the protagonist couple to reach their goal, always and thanks to the help of the unpredictable old man they met in France.

Everything I said before I tried to express it as if I were that 12 year old boy, I was mesmerized by the beauty of the girl in the film nothing more and nothing less than an actress with a very promising future nominated for Oscar and Golden Globe awards and who would act under the orders of such prominent directors as Francis Ford Coppola, Walter Hill, Harold Becker, and Richard Attenborough among others. Her name Diane Lane.

I saw the film a long time later on television and came to understand that it was an unusual story about first love, a sort of less dramatic version of Romeo and Juliet with very representative landscapes of France and Italy, and an excellent performance by Sir Laurence Olivier as the kindly old man who is an accomplice of these young lovers.

It is a film without any malice, like the first love that presents us with an agile plot that makes it very pleasant to watch.

The pace of the film at times is close to the adventure genre and even to that of a road movie. The film's locations include Paris, Verona and Venice. I don't think there are more emblematic places in the world where a couple can express their love, being the mythical and famous Bridge of Sighs the goal of these lovers.

The Bridge of Sighs is one of the most popular monuments in Venice and is associated with a legend that says that if a couple kisses on a gondola ride at sunset under the bridge, they will be granted eternal love.

In the Venetian sunsets most couples follow this tradition, some of them join together even when it is already night in Venice. A tradition that is already Italian culture.

The teenagers make a worthy role the French Thelonious Bernard is Daniel Michon, who years later became a dentist, and the American Diane Lane is Lauren, in her first role she radiates sympathy and beauty, next to them a very old Sir Laurence Olivier in a very worthy role.

The film is based on a book by Patrick Cauvin called E=MC2, mon amour, which was nominated for an Oscar for best adapted screenplay, an award he did not get but he did get an Oscar for best soundtrack. The film was directed by George Roy Hill, whose works include the well-known The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.

Although I have seen excellent romantic dramas, comedies are my favorite, because I have less fun and stress, the humor makes the film flow more and the choice in this case of pre-adolescent children give charisma to a perfect film to enjoy not only on Valentine's Day but at any time. Without fear of contradiction, this was the first movie related to love that I liked.

A big greeting to everyone in the month of love and friendship, this is my participation in the initiative CineTV Contest #48 - Favorite Romantic Comedy Link Here.

Good luck to all the participants, I hope you enjoy my publication.

I agree with you, it is a very good film, I saw it when I was twelve years old and I revisited it when I was eighteen. I think I enjoyed it more the second time, I had more clear concepts of love and friendship. Best regards.
